Chereads / HIS INNOCENT MISTAKE / Chapter 8 - Unknown client

Chapter 8 - Unknown client

That evening, before I got off work, Damon and Sebastian invited me to a party. I humbly declined their offer, reminding them both I had a child at home who was waiting for me. As much as he had a nanny, it was my obligation as his mother to be with him at the time. I felt relieved when both of them nodded their heads in understanding.

Damon had offered to escort me home and again I declined his offer. Before I left, I had asked them to greet their friend for me. They stared strangely at each other before giving me strained smiles. Was something up with them?

"What's with the act?

I had inquired after their weird behaviour became too much to ignore.

"Nothing. "

In unison, both of them had responded. It made it more weird, but I chose to ignore it.

Although peculiar they were acting, they had remained kind and thoughtful around me the whole evening. At one point I thought they must have found out about my past, and almost panicked. It took me too much reassurance with myself to discarde the thoughts from my mind.

I got home to my baby bundled in Lana's bed with her peacefully cuddled beside him. They looked amazing. The sight of them immediately elevated my moods, removing all the worry I had earlier. I quietly tiptoed onto their bedside, softly leaving a kiss on my baby's forehead.

Lana, as if sensing my presence, stirred from her sleep, her eyes widening at the sight of me.

"You're early_"

"Shhh," I shushed her up as sign not to wake up the baby.

Lana followed me to the living room, where I sprawled on the comfy couch to have a rest.

"You look exhausted. " She began.

"How was your first day?"

"It was good. I got to meet my Boss's Friend. " I told her excitedly.

"Can you believe who it was?"

"Who?" Lana asked.

"Damon. "

She gasped, pretending to be shocked. I had revealed to her who had recommended me to the job I got at the the hotel, and so it wasn't much of a surprise.

"I cannot be surprised. " She laughed it off, as I joined in.

I narrated to her everything about my first day at work, as she in return updated me on how her day with my Prince was.

"Did he cry?"

I was curious. I have never been away from my baby for too long. He must have missed me and teared up.

"No. He did not. You know he cannot cry under my watch. " Lana bragged.

The more reason why I loved her and trusted her with my baby, was because of her motherly love towards him. Even if I left for a business trip the entire week, I was certain Lana would take good care of my boy.

"Thank you. " I smiled at her.

Having not thanked her enough since she made her decision to stay with me rather than following her Boss, I saw it comes convenient to do it then.

"You made a great sacrifice to stay with me. Thank you so much. " I sincerely added.

"Dear," Lana was tearing up.

"See? You've made me tear up. " She chuckled.

"Your know I regard you and my godson as my family. I will choose you over and over again. " Her words held so much weight.

I sauntered from my seat and engulfed her in a hug. Together, we went to the kitchen to decide on what to prepare for dinner.

After settling on some salmon and rice, I ran upto my room to freshen up. It didn't take long for my baby to wake up. I immediately ran to his room to check up on him.

I found him playing on bed, probably counting how many layers of ballast were there on the roof. I climbed onto the bed, taking him in my arms. Like he could talk, I began inquiring from him how his day went and whether he had missed me. Prince responded with his wee wee which made me laugh, smooching him with all the kisses.

Since I had already cleaned my bossoms, I invited him into his meal. He was very happy as he grappled them into his mouth, playfully having a suck into his fill. Nothing empowered me like being a mother. I had so much come to fall in love with everything that came with being a mother. Being a mother gave me something to look up to. Something which despite having no idea, motivated me into being my best self and only doing the best.

My my mind went into the party invitation I had received earlier from my Boss. I would have up the offer, just like any other single person, free of any responsibility, and God knows what that party would have entailed. I shook the thought, returning my focus onto my baby. The little boy in my arms was already playing with my hair, something I didn't notice.

Carefully, I slipped the hair out of his tiny fingers, before kissing them. I in turn gave him my finger to play with.

Our mother-son bonding time did not last long as Lana announced that dinner was ready. I took my time feeding my baby, before joining them downstairs.

Dinner went fine. My new family and I discussed about all the events of the day and how our day had been. Due to the slip of the tongue, I mentioned how Damon and Sebastian had invited me to a party which I declined.

I almost received a beating from the two people I called family. Lana scolded me, and Denis was neither on the backseat. In their opinion, my baby was already grown up and I needed to reconsider about going into the dating pool again. Both of them were very careful not to utter Brian's name. They were very much aware that I hadn't moved on from him, and somewhere inside my heart, I was still waiting for him.

Just like Lana had said, "his love will find its way onto me."

Pleading with them not to reprimand me further, they made me promise to start dating as soon as possible. I reluctantly did, knowing very well the who the owner of the small organ in my chest was.
