Kodiak was a mix of Labrador, Dalmatian, and Greyhound. He was the final dog my mother acquired for me. Initially, we had to foster him as he was not yet ready for adoption. We officially adopted him when he reached three months of age. On our first day of fostering, he discovered my skinny pig, Crowley, and began barking at her, which was one of the most adorable moments I had ever witnessed. Kodiak grew rapidly and was named after Balto's son, Kodiak, from the film Balto 3, as well as the Kodiak Bear and the Kodiak Mountains. When he drooled, his entire chest would become soaked, and he had a habit of hitting me with his paw when he demanded my attention. Kodiak was very protective of me, barking whenever another male approached, except for my brother. His bark was so intimidating that it often deterred salesmen. Kodiak made it abundantly clear that he was my dog and consistently obeyed my commands. At night, he enjoyed hogging the blankets and shared a close bond with Crowley, allowing her to crawl all over him. Kodiak once saved me from a man in a white truck who attempted to lure me inside. When I refused, the man exited his vehicle and approached me, but Kodiak began barking and snarling, which prompted the man to retreat and drive away. He protected me on numerous occasions from other men, dogs, and even a speeding car. After my mother passed away in 2021, I had to part with Kodiak and my other pets. I miss him dearly and hope to reunite with him someday.
