Mittzy was a Calico British Shorthair mix, while Bandit Sandit was a purebred British Shorthair and the father of Mittzy. My mother and sister Rosa acquired them from an elderly woman who was relocating to a nursing home and needed to find new homes for her pets. Mittzy was named after my mother's childhood cat, and Bandit Sandit received his name from our dog Bandit, I added "Sandit" to avoid any confusion between the two. Initially, Lucy was not pleased with their presence, often hissing at both Mittzy and Bandit Sandit, but eventually, she grew fond of them. Bandit Sandit had a tendency to mark his territory throughout the house, and on one occasion, he sprayed my mother in the mouth, which infuriated her. As soon as she yelled, Bandit Sandit dashed away. Bandit Sandit fathered two litters with Mittzy; unfortunately, the first litter did not survive, with the first two kittens being stillborn and the third passing shortly after birth. My mother buried them in the backyard. The second litter consisted of five kittens: one male and four females, named Crybaby the 1st, Princess, Maria, Feisty Pretty, and Beauty. Crybaby the 1st earned his name due to his frequent crying. We kept the kittens until they were weaned from Mittzy, after which we found them new homes. I wish we could have kept them, as it was difficult to say goodbye; I had grown attached to them, and I believe Mittzy experienced a sense of loss as well, having lost her first litter and then seeing her second adopted out. A week after the kittens were rehomed, Mittzy and Bandit Sandit defended me from a suspicious man who was attempting to lure me away, hissing and swiping at him. They were my companions for a year before they disappeared one day, and despite our efforts to find them, we were unsuccessful. I miss them dearly and hope they have found happiness wherever they went.
