Lucy was a Calico cat and my very first feline companion. After the passing of our dog Bandit, who had never been fond of cats, we decided to welcome cats into our home. We adopted Lucy from an event at Petsmart, and I vividly recall the moment I turned the corner to the cat area and locked eyes with her. It felt as though she was aware of my approach, and at that instant, I knew she was the one for us. Lucy adapted to her new environment remarkably well. One evening, while we were gathered in the living room, we were startled by a loud squeal from the kitchen. Moments later, Lucy strutted into the room with a lifeless mouse in her mouth, leaving me horrified and in tears. She also mistook my gerbils for mice and attempted to catch them. At that time, we stored the dog food in a large container, and one day, Lucy's curiosity led her to place her paws on the edge. Unfortunately, I did not notice her presence, and when I closed the lid, it landed on her paws, causing her to avoid the container thereafter. Remarkably, Lucy had a unique ability to sense when my grandmother's blood sugar levels were low; she would gently lick my grandmother's hand as a signal for her to take her medication. However, Lucy's fascination with my gerbil Sundown ultimately led to an unfortunate incident where she knocked over the cage, allowing Sundown to escape into a hole in the wall, never to be seen again. Although I was initially upset with Lucy, I eventually forgave her. Lucy brought our family two wonderful years of happiness before she departed from us. I miss her dearly and hold onto the hope of reuniting with her one day.
