Chapter 27 - Lucky The 2nd

Lucky The 2nd, a delightful mix of Dachshund and Jack Russell, was named in homage to my cherished canine companion, Lucky The 1st. We welcomed her into our lives after she was found wandering the streets by a kind gentleman. Lucky The 2nd quickly became one of the most beloved dogs I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Her enthusiastic greeting as she sprinted down the driveway to meet me after school was a daily joy. Remarkably obedient, she always stayed close during our walks, making a leash unnecessary. Her companionship was not only cherished by me but also adored by Vatani and the cats. A particularly endearing trait of Lucky The 2nd was her habit of running in circles when she needed to go outside, and she often found comfort sleeping in my bed. Despite her small stature, she possessed the demeanor of a much larger dog, reminding me often of Lucky The 1st. Curiously, she never made eye contact when we held her, prompting my mother to jokingly inquire if she harbored any guilt. Lucky had a spirited personality, often baring her teeth playfully when vexed by Vatani, which never failed to amuse us. One of my fondest memories was the day a Daddy Long Leg spider scurried across the floor. Startled, I jumped up, and Lucky The 2nd, sensing my excitement, enthusiastically stepped on the arachnid. Another cherished moment occurred when she suddenly grabbed one of my stuffed animals and shook it with vigorous delight. Astoundingly intuitive, Lucky The 2nd could sense when I was about to experience a dizzy spell. She would alert me by tugging on my pant leg and guiding me towards a chair or the couch, thus averting potential fainting episodes.Tragically, our time with Lucky The 2nd was brief. After merely three months, she disappeared without a trace. My mother consoled me by saying that perhaps since Lucky was old it was destined for her to be with us only until it was her time to return to God. Although I wept at her absence, I hold onto the hope of being reunited with her someday. Lucky The 2nd will forever hold a special place in my heart, with her unique personality and unwavering companionship.
