Rosebud the First and Montana were Rottweiler-Boxer mixes and sisters. They were merely three months old when we adopted them. Montana received her name from the popular character Hannah Montana, while Rosebud was named after the female puppy from the Air Buddies series. Rosebud had a brown coat, whereas Montana was characterized by her black and tan fur. We had a neighbor who harbored ill feelings toward us, even going so far as to accuse us of stealing his teacup Chihuahua. On one occasion, when Montana escaped our home, this neighbor alleged that she had bitten him, prompting him to contact animal control. As a result, Montana was required to be held in quarantine for a week. Once the rest of the neighborhood discovered the nature of his accusations, the disagreeable neighbor was effectively driven out of the community. One of my most cherished memories of Rosebud involves her persistently nipping at Bandit's, tail. Bandit, clearly displeased, turned to bark at her, causing Rosebud to recoil in surprise with wide eyes. Similarly, my fondest recollection of Montana is of her playfully "talking back" to our mother by barking, a moment I dearly wish I had recorded. Rosebud and Montana graced our lives with affection and happiness for two months. Unfortunately, they both ran away with our other dog, Marley. Despite our efforts to locate them, we were unsuccessful. I miss them dearly and often reminisce about the joy they brought us. I dearly hope they found love and happiness wherever they ended up.
