Polo was a Chihuahua and belonged to my grandmother, Betty. He had a rather cantankerous disposition. Only Grandma had the ability to lift him. One day, while Grandma was watching my sister Rosa, Rosa began to play with a plugged-in vacuum cord. Polo approached Grandma and tugged at her blouse, prompting her to follow him and unplug the vacuum. On another occasion, Polo decided to engage in a game of hide and seek, even though we were not participating. He concealed himself in the floor air vent, and when we discovered him, the odor was so unpleasant that Grandma had to give him a bath with a mixture of tomato and onion juice, followed by a wash with dog shampoo. Polo spent a considerable amount of time with Grandma until an unknown individual opened her back gate and let him escape. Despite our calls, he never returned, leaving Grandma quite distressed, though she cherished her memories of him. It has been a long time since that incident, and now Grandma has also passed away. I take comfort in the thought that Polo and her other dog, Baby, have reunited with her in heaven, showering her with affection. I miss Polo dearly.
