Mila sat frozen in her place, her composure slowly returning after the fright. Suddenly, she ripped the hand that covered her mouth away when she recognized the voice.
"Anna! Don't ever do that to me again!" Mila said, her voice filled with a mix of relief and anger. "You scared the living daylights out of me!" She held one hand to her chest, trying to calm her rapidly beating heart.
"Hahaha, come on sis, that was a little bit funny, admit it," Anna said laughing at her sister. "I wish you could've seen your face!" Now, tell me, we're you really going to leave without saying goodbye?"
"Sorry, Anna, but it wasn't my intention. I was pressed for time, and then Alex showed up, and everything just turned into chaos.... I didn't have time, Mila explained, exhaling heavily. "Please forgive me. But wait, if you're here and Alex was in my room, then you two have known about me leaving tonight, right? Which means you two have been conspiring together!"
"Yeah, sis, sort of..." Anna replied hesitantly.
"So, tell me, how did you know? How did you find out? And how come you two are working together? You hate Alex..."
"Whoa! Slow down there, sis. One question at a time," Anna said. "Anyhow, Alex was suspecting something, and he came to me, so we decided to tap your phone."
"But why, Anna? Couldn't you just come and ask me?" Mila questioned.
"Come on, Mila, if you wanted me to know, you would have told me without me needing to ask you. So, there would have been no point in asking. And not only that, but we also got a whole lot more information than was actually necessary, which is why Alex is so worried about you," Anna said.
Suddenly, the car door opened, and Alex jumped in behind the wheel. "We have to leave quickly your dad's awake and he's on his way to your room, Mila."
"Oh shit, let's go, Alex! Step on it!" Anna shouted.
Alex fired up the engine and pressed down on the gas to escape as fast as they could. The tires screeched in the driveway as they sped away.
"Okay, no doubt my father heard that, and now he knows," Mila said terrified.
As they made their way to the airport, the atmosphere became tense and quiet. Mila stared out of the window, lost in her thoughts, while Alex glanced at her occasionally. Sitting in the backseat, Anna quietly wipes away tears streaming down her face.
"Are those tears on the tough Barbie's cheeks?" Alex asked, glancing at Anna through the rearview mirror.
"No, Alex, it's raining inside the car," Anna retorted sarcastically.
When they reached the airport entrance, Alex turned off the car and turn to Mila. "Look at me, princess," he said, lifting his hand to wipe the tears on Mila's face. Anna rolled her eyes from the backseat and urged Alex to get to the point.
Ignoring Anna's sarcasm, Alex reassured Mila, "Just remember, I will always be here to protect you, no matter where you are."
Mila nodded, her head bobbing up and down, and whispered a heartfelt "Thank you." They all stepped out of the car, and Alex retrieved Mila's luggage from the trunk. Together, he and Anna accompanied Mila to her check out point. In a tight embrace, Anna held her sister. " I'm going to miss you so much, sis. Please be safe there, and once you're settled, I promise I'll come visit."
Mila reassured her sister, "I promise, Anna. You are always welcome to visit whenever you want."
Alex approached Mila and enveloped her in a tight embrace, as if it could be their last. "Take care of yourself, Mila," he whispered, his voice filled with concern. "If you ever need anything or find yourself in any kind of danger, call me. I'll always be here, waiting." His words hung in the air as he gazed into her eyes, his love for her evident. With a gentle kiss on her forehead, he murmured a heartfelt "Goodbye" before turning and walking away, leaving Mila and Anna in stunned silence. Anna mustered the courage to speak, her voice tinged with confusion. "What was that?" she asked Mila, her expression mirroring her bewilderment. Mila shook her head, still processing the encounter. "I thought he loved you," she replied softly, her heart aching with uncertainty.
As the announcement for passengers to board Flight 0657 echoed through the intercom, the twins exchanged a tight hug, silently conveying their love and farewells. With a heavy heart, Anna watched as Mila walked down the tunnel and disappeared into the airplane.
Anna remained by the window, her gaze fixed on the slowly moving airplane as it was towed onto the runway. Suddenly, the piercing sound of sirens shattered the silence. Anna's heart raced as she peered down to see police cars surrounding the same aircraft that Mila was on. Instinctively, she turned to find Alex, only to collide with one of her father's men.
"Hey...Carlos?" Anna stammered, caught off guard by his presence, how are you doing today? I like your new haircut it really brings out your eyes," she paused for a second, " and why the heck are you so tall and huge all of a sudden."
Nice one Anna but it's not going to work, and Carlos forcefully grasped her arm, dragging her towards the exit. "Let go Carlos! I'm not going anywhere! have you forgotten that I can take you down in seconds, don't underestimate me!" Anna's attempt at persuasion was quickly shut down when Carlos tightened his hold, his voice stern, "don't even try sweet cheeks, if I was yous I would reconsider because your father is furious and you are in a lot of trouble, so don't cause any more trouble."
"Where is my father? I demand to speak to him immediately."
Carlos flashed her a warning look and point to the surrounded aircraft, "Your father is onboard to find your sister."
