Chapter 7 - The family legacy

Akua's mind was reeling as she drove back to Blantyre, the scenic route home a blur through her tear-stained eyes. She couldn't believe she had wasted so much time on Kwame's lies, so much of herself. But as she approached her family's old mansion, a sense of unease settled in, like the weight of secrets kept hidden for too long. What secrets had her own family been keeping from her?

As she entered the house, her mother, Nana, greeted her with a warm smile, but Akua detected a hint of nervousness behind her eyes. "Akua, dear, I'm so glad you're back. I've missed you." Nana enveloped her in a tight hug, as if trying to hold onto something slipping away.

Akua hesitated, unsure how to broach the subject, but her determination won out. "Nana, I need to ask you something. What do you know about Kwame's secrets?" She watched as Nana's expression changed, like a mask slipping, revealing a glimpse of the truth beneath.

Nana sighed, her shoulders sagging under the weight of secrets kept too long. "Come, let's sit down. It's time you knew the truth." Akua followed her to the living room, the air thick with anticipation.

As Nana began to reveal a shocking family legacy, one that connected her family to Kwame's in ways Akua never imagined, Akua listened, stunned, her mind racing to keep up. Her family's history, once a source of pride, now seemed tainted by secrets and lies. She felt like she was living in a stranger's skin, her sense of identity crumbling.

"Nana, why didn't you tell me?" Akua asked, trying to process the revelations, her voice shaking with emotion.

"I wanted to protect you, Akua," Nana said, her eyes pleading for understanding. "But now that you know, you must understand that your family's history is complex. We've made mistakes, but we've also made amends. It's time for you to know the whole story."

Akua nodded, determined to uncover the entire truth, no matter how painful. Little did she know, this was just the beginning of a journey that would change her life forever, like a river
