The silence in my office hung like a dense fog, making every second feel drawn out and oppressive. Cletus, who had been my late father's CFO and was now mine, sat across from me, his usually jovial expression shadowed with concern. Sunlight filtered through the window, casting long, accusatory shadows that seemed to challenge my illusion of control.
I broke the silence first, though my voice felt as strained as the situation. "So, Cletus, what's the state of Carson Enterprises today?"
Cletus sighed deeply, rubbing a hand through his thinning hair. "Not good, Liam. Yesterday's press conference hit us hard. Our stocks have plummeted, and we're losing investor confidence faster than we can patch the holes."
