The mahogany table felt cold against my knuckles as I gripped it, staring daggers at the empty chair at the boardroom. All the top shareholders and board members were present except Elliott Mason.
The night before, I had called for an emergency board meeting to discuss the way forward for Carson Enterprises after the press conference that had taken a toll on our company. I had made some progress convincing the shareholders to vote out Elliott Mason from the board.
As we were about to take a vote on the matter, the oak door of the boardroom swung open, momentarily shattering the tense silence within. Every head swiveled towards the entrance, expecting someone from the legal department with the final report on the investigation. Instead, Elliott Mason strode in, his face a thundercloud. He hadn't bothered to RSVP for the emergency meeting I called after the disastrous press conference.
