Completing the ten kilometers of the journey Evan was now standing in front of the destroyed building.
It was 7:00 pm and he was still looking for a place to stay.
Camp outside?
Why would he do that? When he could just find a room which is not so destroyed.
Not only will it provide safety at night but also it will prevent the spread of light when he lights the fire later to cook his meal. It will attract less to no attention from the beast roaming in the night.
The full day had passed and he had completed his first 10 kilometers of journey but still hadn't encountered any beast yet.
' Did I just jinx it? '
Just as he entered the building to look for any room he heard a noise from his left side.
* Crunch *
* Crunch * * Crunch *
The noise of someone eating something could be heard.
" I did jinx it. "
He said in a very low voice.
' Let's count one, two, three, four and that's five. '
He saw five rat-like beasts, they were not very big but still the size of 5 years old. They were eating some other beast not even sparing its bones.
Seeing that these beasts hadn't noticed him yet, Evan thought of running away.
And Yes he planned to run away.
He couldn't possibly take all of them all at the same time and hope to win!
He knew,
he knew that he was but a 10-year-old mundane human. He couldn't possibly defeat these five rat-like beasts.
So he chose to flee.
And just as he was about to turn around he saw one of the rats eyeing him. Then all of the remaining four turn their heads towards him.
' Shit! '
* Screecch *
Seeing that all of them had located him, Evan acted with haste he threw away his bag on the floor as it would limit his running speed he could always retrieve it back if he survived now.
All of the rats shoot out at Evan simultaneously.
Exiting the building he ran towards the random paths to outrun the beasts.
Seeing that even after running for a few minutes he still couldn't shake them off, Evan had no choice but to think of something else.
' Just how can they run so fast?! '
' This cannot go on! '
He couldn't run for long, he would eventually run out of stamina. Ultimately being caught by the group of rats!
What if he got caught you say?
He will be turned into a blood mess just like that beast he saw in the building!
' I cannot let that happen! '
" ...! "
Knowing that he couldn't outrun them Evan started thinking of many solutions and he chose the most practical.
' If I cannot take them all head on why don't I try fight them one by one? '
All he had to do was find a narrow path.
And only after a few seconds, he spotted one!
Entering the space between two destroyed buildings, he turned around to face the beasts.
As excepted from the rats they also entered the crack, following Evan.
Seeing this he smiled.
'' As I expected from some brainless rats. "
Suddenly the beast in the front jumped at him.
Evan who already had his silver blue sword out, slashed from upside down on its neck.
* Slash *
It went straight through it.
The beast who had its head just separated from its body fell down lifeless.
Evan just killed the beast easily!
' Sharpe!! '
Even Evan was shocked by the sharpness of the sword.
He didn't expect that!
Looking at the sword in his hands he thought.
' Maybe this will make it easier! '
Seeing one of them dead alerts the other beasts, so all of them try to attack Evan at the same time.
Which turned out to be a mistake in this narrow alley.
Two of them just crashed into each other.
Not missing the chance Evan kicked the one to the side and stabbed the sword into another killing it right there.
He didn't stop eyeing the third which just jumped at him, he stepped backward moving the sword upwards in the trajectory of the jump.
* Pierce *
The sword went straight from the stomach of the beast, it started struggling in pain.
Evan then just pulled the sword out slashing it down again and that marks the end for the third beast.
He was just about to defend the attack from the one he just kicked when the last one pounced on him from the side. Throwing him onto the ground.
' Fuck! '
Lying on the ground with a beast on beast on top of him he couldn't help but curse.
Just as the rat was about to bite him with its metal-like teeth
* Clang *
Evan blocked it with his sword.
The rat just bites on the sword while throwing its sharp claws all over his body.
Evan held the sword with one of his hands on the handle while the other was on the blade and applied as much pressure as he could.
The sword then passed through the clutch of its teeth and went straight from its jaws towards the brain, shaving half of its head and ending its life then and there.
Blood coming from the beast fell on Evan's face some of it entered his mouth,
It tastes disgusting!
He shook the dead body from him to the side and searched for the last beast only to find that it had run away.
Evan also decided not to chase after the rat. He was already low on stamina during the start of the fight and now he was completely exhausted.
' I should start learning how to fight using a sword. '
Although he don't know any sword style he can still practice and make himself familiar with the sword.
Looking at the sword in his hands he spoke to it with a smile
" Ah, what an exhausting day and I have to do this for whole two months. "
After resting for a while he picked up his sword and the body of one beast for dinner. He started making his way to retrieve his bag.
