As the lights went on Evan found himself in a bright white room. A very futuristic room.
But his gaze was locked on just one spot.
' Isn't it ... '
" A GUN! "
His voice echoed through the room, bouncing off the walls, but he paid no attention to it. He was too engrossed in the sight before him.
The gun was like something out of a dream—or a nightmare. It was long and sleek, with a metallic sheen that suggested it was forged from a material far stronger than anything on Earth. The barrel was wide, tapering off into a sharp point, and the handle was crafted with intricate details, designed for a grip that promised both comfort and lethal precision.
He approached the display, almost as if in a trance, and began inspecting the gun with intense curiosity.
The weapon was both beautiful and terrifying. It looked like something that could easily destroy anything in its path. Its design was clearly far beyond the technology he was familiar with—like it had come straight out of a sci-fi movie he had watched once.
Although he didn't know much about the weapons, but one look at this gun and he knew that it was designed to kill.
As he was inspecting the gun he noticed a small screen beside the display case. The screen suddenly lit up as he approached, displaying information about the gun in glowing letters.
It read:
[ Name/Model: Nightshade
Type: Magnetic Rifle
Rank: Tier-08
Grade: Yellow
Caution: Don't use it without a Tier-9 mechanical Suit aka MS-09 or higher, risk of severe injury.
Comment: A gun capable of killing Tier-8 beasts and severely injuring Tier-7 ones ]
Simple yet Informative.
Evan's mind raced as he read the text again.
" Tier- 8 beasts? What's that? Hmmm.. could it be that these mutated beasts are categorized into different tiers? If so, how high is tier 8? I didn't get any information about it in books at Oldman's house..... Moreover, he didn't tell me anything about it. Maybe he didn't know about it? I mean this place was destroyed two hundred years ago and the way they categorize the beasts may be different from before."
He began to pace around the room, deep in thought. The more he considered it, the more he realized how little he actually knew about the world he had stumbled into.
' Tiers, Rank, and Grade? Hmm, maybe I can know more about them in settlements? '
Moreover,
" I cannot use it without MS-09, a mechanical suit?"
' A mechanical suit is required to use it? '
" If the gun is here maybe I can also find the suit somewhere around. "
Not seeing any suit near the gun, he looked around the room.
The walls were smooth, unblemished, and gleamed under the harsh overhead lights, giving the space an almost otherworldly appearance. The floor beneath his feet was made of a material he couldn't identify—something between metal and glass, cool to the touch, and reflecting the light in odd patterns. It was as if he had stepped into a scene from a sci-fi movie, far removed from the ruined, crumbling world outside.
Evan looked around the room for a while but there wasn't a single trace of any armor.
" Fuck! If you cannot use the gun without the armor, then why keep it here? "
He then looked at the gun again.
' Well, the description didn't say it cannot be used without the armor. '
Yes, it was true as the description of the gun didn't say that it could not be used without the armor. It just warned him to not use it without an MA-09 or higher.
' It will be helpful. '
He thought for a while before picking it up. The idea of leaving the gun behind was unappealing, especially since it was the most promising thing he had found in these ruins so far.
Just as he picked it up he realized as to why armor was required to use it.
" Argh, Heavy! "
A look of disappointment suddenly surfaced on his face.
It was so freaking heavy!
' I couldn't possibly travel with it! '
" Just when I found something useful.... FUCK! "
He couldn't control it anymore.
Seeing the gun had filled him with hope, a hope that was now dashed by the reality of its impracticality. He thought that even if it couldn't be used regularly it could still save his life in a dire situation.
" Ah man, I will just pretend I didn't see anything here. "
His initial plan was to find a safe place to stay and anything else was secondary. So he just ignored the weapon and started his daily routine.
His objective was simple: let the food cook, practice with the sword, and get some rest.
Letting the food cook he sat on one of the sofas in the room and stared at a black box that he found when looking round the room.
" I wonder what will be in it. "
He found this thing in a very safe space.
What does that mean?
There has to be something precious in it!
* Click *
It opened easily.
" ...! "
Looking into Evan was once again stupefied just like when he saw that Gun.
' Sometimes I wonder whether I am lucky or unlucky. '
He wondered to himself while looking at a single ring placed neatly in the box.
It was just like the ring Oldman had!
The same ring from which he had retrieved a sword and armor for Evan.
" A dimensonal ring! "
A freaking dimensional ring!
And just at the time, he was thinking of forgetting about the gun cause he could carry it with him.
He hurriedly picked it up and then put it on the index finger of his left hand.
" Wait.... how do I use it? "
" ..... "
He had seen Oldman use it before so he tried to imitate his movements.
The ring looked just normal it didn't contain any crystal or anything embedded in it. It was a spinner ring so just like Hades, Evan put his thumb and index finger of the other hand and rotated it clockwise.
A rift of 20 cm suddenly formed in front of him shimmering with a faint, ethereal light. It was an opening, a gateway to a small pocket dimension where items could be stored.
' Let's see if there is something here. '
He put his hand inside to inspect only to find that it was empty.
' As expected '
He then looked over toward the meter-long gun, a smile slowly spreading across his face.
' It seems at the end you are coming with me after all. '
