Chapter 14 - An Encounter

After discovering the dimensional ring Evan hurriedly used it. He carefully placed his newly acquired firearm inside, watching in amazement as it vanished from sight, seemingly absorbed into the void.

As for it's ammo?

Well, He glanced around the room, his eyes landing on a small shelf beneath the gun case. Nestled in the shadows were a handful of rounds.

But what surprised Evan was the size of the bullets.

They were almost as big as his hands!

' These looks really dangerous. '

He muttered under his breath, weighing one of the massive bullets in his hand. The cold, metallic surface sent a shiver up his spine.

He could only imagine the destructive power they must hold.

Satisfied for the moment, Evan returned to his cooking.

The smell of sizzling meat filled the room, and he realized with a small smile that he was starving.

Abandoning his other tasks, he sat near the crackling fire as he devoured his meal.

While eating his thoughts wandered back to the ring on his finger.

' I wonder just how much can I store in this little thing? As much as I want?..... Nah I don't think so. '

After finishing his meal, Evan decided to unwind with a bit of sword practice. During the past few days, Evan had started to like practicing swords as it helped him keep his mind calm.

Finally, he set his sword aside and sank into the sofa in the center of the room.

" Let's see "

He then again looked at the black box from which he had obtained the ring. He wanted to look for something and to his surprise, he found a similar screen.

" I missed this in my excitement? "

' I have to control my emotions. Is this kid's memories influencing me subconsciously? '

He focused on the words displayed on the screen:

[ Name/Model: Dimensional Ring 07

 Type: Storage Ring

 Rank: 07

 Grade: Orange

 Capacity: 2m * 2m * 2m

Comment: A ring you don't want to lose. ]

Again a very simple explanation.

" So it has an 8-meter cube of volume. "

He then looked over towards his bag lying on his opposite side.

" I can finally walk without that heavy load. "

A small smile suddenly formed on his face.

For the past two weeks, he had been limiting the things he carried, forced to leave behind potentially useful items because of the sheer weight. But now, with this ring, he could take anything he needed without worrying about the burden.

Seeing that he could now carry more things he decided to take the things in the basement that he thought to be useful.

' What a day. '

Searching the room and picking up a few items, Evan decided to end his day as he slept on the sofa.

***

The night passed swiftly and Evan was now standing in front of the basement with a bluish sword on his back and silver armor covering his body.

He looked full of energy and there was not a single wound on his body.

Why you say?

He found a few things that he could take with him yesterday one of which was a mid kit. Inside, he had found three vials of a strange, glowing liquid.

At first, he had been hesitant to use them, unsure of their purpose. But after reading the detailed labels, he decided to take a chance.

As a result, he recovered from all the injuries he had sustained until now in one night!

But as incredible as the potions were, they paled in comparison to his greatest find—the dimensional ring. Evan couldn't help but smile as he looked down at the ring now resting comfortably on his left hand.

Now that it was time to continue his journey, he looked at the basement one more time and moved towards the north.

***

A month passed since he left the old man's house, and Evan found himself in the far northern reaches of the ruined city.

Yes! He had finally made it to the northern part.

The sense of accomplishment was tempered by the realization that he was only halfway through his journey.

' Just one damn month more and I will be out of this godforsaken city. '

He had a few wounds all around his body but he didn't choose to use the potion. He planned to use them only if he found himself in dire condition.

These past 20 days were not so bad compared to the first 10. He only encounters a single beast a day, the density of the beasts in the outskirts really seems scarce.

' I take my words back from that day. '

It seems that Oldman was right.

After reaching the inner part of the northern region, Evan inspected his surroundings once more.

It was totally different from the eastern region. The northern region was different—quieter, more desolate. There were no towering buildings, only crumbling houses, each one as destroyed as the last.

As he ventured deeper into the northern territory, a sudden, pungent smell of blood hit his senses like a wall. Evan stopped in his tracks, his heart pounding as he scanned the area.

The source of the smell wasn't far. After reaching there he was stunted and couldn't help but gulped.

A group of five dog-like beasts lay on the ground, their bodies twisted and broken, claw marks marring their fur.

He also noticed the same type of mark on the ground and wall nearby.

Evan could only guess just what had they faced.

" ....! "

' Wait a minute! '

His breath caught in his throat as realization dawned on him.

" These bodies..... they're fresh as if they died just a while ago. Doesn't that mean..... "

Panic surged through him.

' Oh no! I have to get out of here quickly! '

Just as he thought of running away

* Growl *

He heard the voice of some beast coming from really close.

Evan felt goosebumps all over his body, his breath became heavy as he turned towards the source of the voice.

There stood a three-meter large beast just a few meters away, staring intensely at him as some hunter marking his prey.

' Shit! '

Evan cursed internally, every instinct screaming at him to run!
