Chapter 17 - Trap

* Howwwwl *

The beast howled, its voice filled with a mixture of anger and twisted satisfaction.

It had found the bug—the one that had dared to wound it before. Rage boiled beneath its thick hide, the memory of that painful strike across its face igniting a deep-seated hatred.

The beast's eyes gleamed with bloodlust, and its muscles tensed as it charged forward, determined to tear this bug apart.

Its massive paws thundered against the ground, closing the distance quickly. The prey, the human who had escaped once, would not escape again.

It will not let him escape!

As it ran, the beast saw the boy pull out the same bluish sword that had hurt it before. The sight only fueled its fury further. This time, the human wouldn't have a chance.

It watched the boy dash toward a series of destroyed houses, a smile stretched across his face. The beast's anger swelled—how dare this weak insect mock it?

It wanted nothing more than to tear the prey in front of it.

* Howwwwl *

Howling once again it lunged at the boy hoping to catch up to him and then rip his body parts.

That's what the beast thought.

But Evan had a different plan.

" Come on beast it's time for you to die. "

Evan could feel the ground trembling beneath his feet as the beast charged, but he didn't falter. His heartbeat pounded in his ears, and adrenaline coursed through his veins as he increased his speed.

He had to reach the trap—he had to make it to safety!

Suddenly he felt that sunlight was blocked by something, noticing the source he couldn't believe that the beast had jumped so high and almost caught up to him!

Acting on pure instinct, Evan dove to the side, rolling across the rubble-strewn ground just as the beast's claws sliced through the air where he had been. Dust and debris exploded upward as the creature's claws dug into the earth. Evan barely escaped the devastating attack.

Not giving any time for him to recover, the beast threw another attack from the side

* Clang *

The sound of two metals striking each other was heard.

The sound of metal striking metal echoed through the ruins as Evan raised his sword in time to block the attack. But the force behind the beast's strike was tremendous—it sent him flying backward several meters, his body crashing through the rubble.

Due to the sudden attack, Evan was thrown away from his path.

' Shit! This wasn't in the plan! '

He realized that not everything goes according to the plan. In fact, he didn't even plan to confront the beast in the first place. All he wanted was to lure the beast into the trap!

The trap was installed so close and yet he was still unable to reach there!

' I have to fight it to make it there! But what if I succeed and the trap is unable to kill it? Doesn't that mean I basically committed suicide? '

Yes, his plan was just to lure the beast to a particular place and hope that the pre-installed trap could kill the beast. If the monster died then and there it would be perfect but If the beast was hurt and unable to fight Evan would have decided his chance to win only then would he have any fight with the beast. Lastly, if he was unlucky and the beast wasn't hurt then he would have fled the scene without even looking back.

But now! It had all gone down to drain!

He has to fight this monster in order to even make it to the trap, which is not easy. He will definitely be injured and could only hope to make it there in one piece.

He had entertained this beast previously and how much time did he last? 30 minutes? 15 minutes? 5 minutes?

No! it was not even a full minute!

He basically survived that battle due to those two grenades he obtained from the basement. And now he didn't even have any backup.

So, he could not even hope to flee this time if he was injured.

Now all he could do was pray that he made it to the trap and that the beast died there or at least injured badly. As escaping will not be an option if it survives.

' I will be damned. '

Not wasting any time he dodged yet another attack from the beast.

The beast was furious that it was still unable to kill this insect. Its eyes became more bloody suggesting that it lost even the last bit of intelligence becoming fully derived by the instincts.

But that was a mistake.

Evan saw the beast's mindless rage as an opportunity. He dodged another attack, dashing to the side, rolling forward, and keeping his momentum up.

He just needed to survive a few more seconds—just enough time to reach the trap!

' Almost there!!!! '

The thought burned in his mind as he ran. He could see the spot where he needed to be, the trap waiting for the beast.

But just as hope surged through him, a sharp pain tore through his back.

The beast had swiped at him with its claw, tearing through his armor like paper. Blood gushed from the wound, staining his clothes and the ground beneath him.

Before he could react, the creature's massive paw slammed into his stomach, lifting him off the ground.

" Arrggh.... Cough. "

Evan's body flew through the air, crashing into a nearby wall.

The impact was brutal, the force crushing the air from his lungs. Blood poured from his mouth, his back, and even his head. He felt as though his entire body had been shattered. For a moment, everything went black.

Evan remained pasted into the wall for some time.

' Die? Am I going to die again? Like this? Again? '

But Suddenly,

' No! I will not die like this! '

Even in all that pain, Evan opened his eyes and noticed that he was in a familiar place.

' Did I get kicked here? Really? '

He was in the room.

The room where the trap was set.

Evan's heart raced as realization dawned on him. He must have been thrown into the very place he was trying to reach. It was pure chance.

Seeing the beast almost upon him.

He moved.

Gritting his teeth, Evan pushed his broken body off the ground. Every movement was agony, but he forced himself to crawl toward the wire hanging beside the wall. Blood dripped from his wounds, staining the floor beneath him as he reached out, fingers trembling.

Moving his tattered body he sat down while holding the wire.

Through the haze of pain, he saw the beast approaching, slowly, its hulking form blocking the entrance. It thought it had won. It thought he was helpless.

It moved forward at a slow speed.

' Just a little more. '

And just when it stood at a certain rock. Evan's lips curled into a bloody smile. He pulled the wire with all his remaining strength.

" Just.... Go....To Hell!!!!"

* Zoooom *

* Booooom *

The blast shook the entire building, fire, and smoke filling the air as debris rained down.
