Chapter 9 - The Promised Duel

When Lichtalia and I entered the infirmary, there were many people lying weakly on the beds. What caught our attention was not them, but two men who were standing while talking to each other.

Both of them seemed to notice our presence and they immediately said as they looked at our faces, "Isn't this Lichtalia and the winner of the duel who used cheating methods, Ace? What brought you two here?"

I didn't answer both of them right away but turned my gaze to Lichtalia. Lichtalia, who realized the meaning of my gaze immediately introduced their identity to me.

"The one with pale skin and white hair was the elite of the Hall of Summon, Desmond Darthon. While the tall one with a disgusting smile was the former elite of the Hall of Conjure, Teradein Finito."

A disgusting laughter came out of Teradein's mouth when he heard the introduction that Lichtalia had just made.

"Keh… keh… keh, your mouth is as poisonous as ever, Lichtalia. But you won't be able to say anything soon after all the students in this academy insult you for violating the sanctity of a duel between spellcasters."

For the first time, I saw Lichtalia show an angry expression towards someone, but I didn't want anything unwanted to happen that would worsen Lichtalia's image in front of the academy students. So, before Lichtalia acted rashly, I first opened my mouth and said, "Teradein, your mouth is too dirty and as disgusting as your laughter. I can read your mind like a book. You want to get your elite position back, don't you? That's why you and the zombie next to you are working together by trying to bring down Lichtalia's good name and, at the same time, annul the results of the duel that has been agreed upon by both parties."

Teradein narrowed his eyes when he heard my words, while Desmond chose to reply with reasons, which sounded funny in my ears.

"You violated the rules of the duel by not using any spells. What you did was considered an insult to spellcasters and it was a violation of the sanctity of the duel."

Staring intently at Desmond, even though he had an elite title, I didn't feel intimidated or small at all. On the contrary, Desmond's words made me think that the elite title didn't have any special meaning.

"You are one of the six elites and represents the Hall of Summon, right? Honestly, I didn't expect an elite like you to make such dirty move. But it would be even more disappointing if you couldn't see the truth of what happened in the duel because I'm sure even Lichtalia realized that I used spells in the duel. Regardless, I'll just say this, I challenge you to a duel in the arena on the same date next month. Just like those who are bedridden, the loser must leave this academy."

There was no change in the expression on Desmond's face. However, Teradein seemed to laugh out loud before saying, "You want to challenge an elite? Forget about whether you have what it takes to fight him, we don't even need to accept your challenge because your reputation and that girl next to you are already slowly being destroyed. We decided to decline because we don't see any benefit in your challenge."

This time it was Lichtalia's turn to speak after calming down her previously turbulent emotions.

"You can't refuse because I also challenge you, Teradein. We will make this a two-on-two duel. In addition, to prevent the same thing from happening, I will personally make the letter of agreement and it will be witnessed by all the elites and teachers."

For the first time since this conversation took place, not only did Teradein looked annoyed, but Desmond also reacted by saying, "You seem very serious about this, Lichtalia. But you should know that I am on a different level from the elite you defeated in the past. All your efforts will end in your defeat."

This time I was the one who replied to Desmond's words with a sharp sentence, "Our defeat? We will not lose to the leaders of losers like both of you. No matter how prestigious your title is, losers are still losers."

After saying such cool words, I immediately grabbed Lichtalia's hand and left the infirmary.

When I was outside, I immediately released my grip and said to Lichtalia, "Class Prefect, I hope your way making all the elites and teachers as witnesses will go smoothly. In the meantime, I will return to the Hall of Combat to do special training. No matter what, the opponents we will face are one of the elites and former elites, we will meet in three weeks to do joint training."

After saying that, I immediately ran towards the Hall of Combat and immediately told everything that happened to my teacher, Charles.

My teacher responded to my report with a grin.

"You've only been training for a week but you already dare to challenge the elite? Hahaha, as expected of my student. I will train you well for these three weeks. As long as you work hard and understand all the lessons I give, then nothing is impossible."

I nodded with a smile. Then, remembering the previous incident, I try to ask my teacher for help, "Teacher, I want to ask you for help. To be honest, I can't trust the credibility of the elites or the teachers who appear neutral when it comes to the elites. Therefore, I hope you can ask Principal Merlin to be a witness and judge in the duel that will take place next month."

Luckily my teacher wasn't drinking tea at the moment, otherwise he would probably choke after hearing my request.

"You want me to ask that annoying Merlin to be a witness and judge in your duel next month?"

I just kept quiet and looked at my teacher with eyes full of hope.

My teacher took a deep breath for a moment before nodding in agreement with a heavy heart.

"Boy, you made your teacher owe him. In return, I will make your training a hell for the next three weeks!"

"Teacher, you're the best!"
