Chapter 1 - The Worst Loser

The dark sky was filled with red lightning and rain of blood. The land was filled with mountains of human and demon corpses. In that place filled with death, two creatures stared at each other with very strong killing intent.

Both of them have human form, but one of them has blood-red eyes and curved horns on his head.

Both are seen holding a sword. A sword that represents two opposing elements. Light and Darkness.

The two were seen exchanging words before finally moving their bodies to attack each other.

They had clashed swords intensely for hundreds or even thousands of times, but none of them seemed to have the upper hand in the fight. Until finally both of them decided to end the fight with their respective ultimate attacks. One attack to determine victory and defeat, life and death, a decisive last attack that became the hope for the race of both fighters.

The owner of the sword of light shone brightly like the sun while the demon who owned the sword of darkness dimmed like a black hole.

Just as the two powerful forces were about to clash, a piece of chalk hit my head, causing me to wake up from my strange dream.

When I opened my eyes and looked around me, everyone in the class was looking at me while holding back their laughter. While the figure of the man who threw the chalk at me looked so angry because I fell asleep during his class.

"Ace Arcane, if you don't intend to take my lessons seriously, you better get out of my class now!"

Hearing the decree, I sighed and walked out of the classroom silently, but I could still hear the whispers of some students talking about me in derogatory tone.

"He is a descendant of the famous Arcane clan but apparently, he can't even use a basic spell."

"I think he understood that he had no chance of becoming a spellcaster, that's why he chose to sleep in Professor Edward's class."

"I even wondered how a failure like him could enter the Zephyr Magic Academy. The best magic academy in the Zephyr Kingdom and only those with extraordinary talent could enter."

"Hey, he may be a failure as a person but he is still from the Arcane clan. Of course, he got in with the connections his clan had built."

A failure who can only enter through connections. That is an open secret that everyone knows about me in this academy.

I admit that I have no talent for magic. To use a spell requires mana that comes from within the body. For some reason, the amount of mana in my body is very small. This makes it very difficult for me to use even a single spell properly.

Magic is almost like mathematics. If we make a comparison, for example, a simple fire element spell called a fireball.

To create a perfect fireball requires ten mana, while the amount of mana in my body is only five. Half the amount needed to create a perfect fireball.

In magic itself, it is strictly forbidden for a spellcaster to exhaust all the mana inside their body. This is because mana is the energy of human life. If a spellcaster exhausts the mana in their body, they will lose consciousness and the body will enter a coma as a form of self-protection system. If the mana is not immediately refilled quickly, the spellcaster will die in a matter of hours.

There are two ways to refill mana in the body. The first way is to meditate and let the body absorb mana from nature. This is a natural way. The second way is to use magic items that store mana. Such as potions, food, injections, and the like. This method is used in emergencies. For example, in a fight or when a spellcaster lose consciousness because they exhaust all their mana.

Because of that, if my body can only produce five mana, that means I can only use a maximum of three of the five mana in my body. If I use four mana, my body will feel very tired and heavy. If I use five, that's the end of my story.

So, if I use fireball spell, the fireball I can create is only the size of a ping pong ball. While the perfect size of a fireball is the size of a basketball.

This is still in the simple calculation stage. Advanced spells required strong mana control which requires a certain amount of mana every second to maintain the spell keep active.

Normal humans have at least twenty mana in their bodies, while the students who study at Zephyr Magic Academy are talented students who have at least fifty mana in their bodies.

Fifty to five, no wonder everyone in this academy calls me the worst loser.

Since I had been kicked out of the classroom, rather than idle around and waste time, I decided to walk towards a certain building on the outskirts of the academy area.

A place that was once a favorite place of learning but has long been abandoned since magic became more advanced.

Hall of Combat, a magic division that focuses on the use of combat spells. The main strength of this magic division is combining martial arts and magic. Strengthening spells is one of the most popular at the time when the Hall of Combat was still the best among all magic divisions.

The main reason for the decline of this magic division is the popularity of area-type spells and summoning spells that makes the spellcaster stay at a safe distance. Opposites from combat spells, which requires the spellcaster to fight at close range.

This is my first time coming to the Hall of Combat. To be honest, I'm very curious about the conditions inside. If this hall is still standing strong inside the academy, that means there are still people who studying this spells type, right? The main reason I came to this place is because I want to find the best spells that I can use optimally and efficiently.

Given my pathetic limited mana, I have long ignored high mana consumption spells, such as area-type spells or summoning spells that requires a large consumption of mana.

Knocking on the hall door a few times, I said, "Excuse me," before walking into the hall in front of me.
