Synopsis

Chapter 1 - Prologue

It all started, quite a while ago, when the system awoke

The system itself is a rather friendly creature, although it brought upon earth many world-wise crises.

For with the system, THEY awoke. The creatures, the monsters, the terrifying beings that threatened to destroy our planet.

Yet the system had a plan, it would take under its wings humans who had proved themselves worthy, by amassing a great number of achievements.

Achievements are simple things, things that the system sees as you doing good. Perhaps this is getting an A, or maybe going to the Olympics. Those are the achievements that are easier to rate, but there is always the idea of doing good.

First responders rack up many achievements. Having saved life after life after life.

But no achievement can be earned twice. And each one has bigger and smaller effects on your achievement score.

In simple terms, an achievement gives you points, the greater and rarer the achievement, the more points earned. And perhaps even a level up. But that's not the story at hand.

Overall, humans began to amass a great amount of power.

Alas, as humans do, they sought to use this power to conquer, paying no mind to the greater risks that had awoken with the system.

The system began agitated

"How dare my powers be used in such ways".

So instead, power was given to the monsters. And they grew stronger, stronger than any human could ever defeat.

But by the time humans had realized their mistake, it was much too late for many.

An outbreak of monsters was terrorizing the earth.

And humans began to fight back.

So the system gave back its powers to humans, and all humans that received such powers became adventurers.

A large battle began, tolling on for years and years, and many lives were risked and lost. But humans finally came to a victory.

Monsters began to hide in the depths of the earth, and again the system began to be irritated.

It wanted a constant battle, it wanted a way to strengthen all humans.

So, right as humans had thought they'd won, the system implemented a new technique. Humans would be transported to the area where monsters lived. They couldn't leave until they'd killed off the majority of the monster population.

A dungeon so to speak.

And again, carnage was unleashed.

It became a kill or be killed world.
