Chapter 17 - Chapter 17 Burial preparations.

An hour later both girls came back wearing the training clothes he told them to wear and they both looked stunning in them.

The training clothes were a set of short Chinese-style dresses and shorts, those clothes were made to make it easy to move in them but they also added quite a bit of charm to both sisters who were already beauties.

-Master, can you make our hair back to the way they were before?

Maya asked as they had to take out the hairpins to wash their hair.

-Of course.

Paul agreed without hesitation and started to work on her hair.

When it was Mia's turn she was embarrassed but she allowed him to do her hair without even looking him in the eyes.

When he finished he showed them the alphabet and explained the meaning of each letter in it and how they are written.

Then he left them to copy the alphabet and he went to cook a diner.

Since he had a lot of food and cooking utensils now, Paul decided to prepare a rabbit stew.

Both girls were doing their best to copy the alphabet but it was not easy for them and to add to the difficulty they had to write using sticks on the ground since they had no paper or any other writing materials.

This was something that Paul put on the shopping list once they got to the town.

When it was time to eat, Paul called them and they saw a table with chairs and the full set of tableware waiting for them.

He had to show them how to use the cutlery since this was their first time to do so.

Both girls had a lot to learn if they wanted to pass as humans but they were making rapid progress by imitating his movements during the meal.

After eating both girls returned to their writing and Paul decided that it was high time to start preparing the burial for the mercenaries and their clients.

Using his mana he dug a hole that was three meters deep two and a half meters wide and twenty meters long.

This depleted his mana but this time he had a mana potion so there was no need for him to wait for it to naturally be refiled again or cultivated to expedite the process.

He drank a small vial of transparent liquid which was bitter as all hell and he felt his mana pool being refiled.

Now all he had to do was to purify it which didn't take long.

When he was done he called the girls.

-How is your writing going?

He asked when they came.

-We were able to copy the alphabet a few times but it was hard.

Maya said.

-Well for now I have another thing for you to do.

Paul pointed at the hole he had just dug up.

-We need to fill this up with firewood and I will help you gather it.

He explained. Now all of them had spatial devices so this task would go way faster as they didn't have to come back and forth with what they had gathered and could carry in their hands.

-Why do we need to fill this hole up with wood?

Mia asked, she had no idea what he was planning to do with this hole and so much wood.

-This will be the place where we will burn the bodies that we have found and once they are burnt we will bury them here.

Paul explained.

He also planned to put a big stone with the names of the dead written on it so that everyone who passed there would know that this was a grave and who was lying in it.

The wood gathering went quite well and before sunset, they managed to fill almost half of the hole.

Paul planned to make the funeral pyre at least a meter higher than the edge of the hole to make sure that the bodies were burnt to ashes before burying them.

As for the rabbits that died thanks to the dead breeder, he used some rope to tie a few rocks to them and planned on tossing them into the river after they left the place.

He wanted to be sure that the place he would toss them into was deep enough and it would be best if some fish or even better a water beast took care of them.

After the evening meal, Paul went to cultivate while the girls were tired and went to sleep early.

He advanced another three levels in each cultivation but it took him way longer now and if he wanted to keep the pace then he would have to spend more time cultivating or he could just lower the pace.

Either way, it would not be long before he would have to cultivate for an entire day just to level up once.

He could of course use the pills to help him cultivate faster but he did not want to do that because it was not recommended for the stage 1 cultivators to use pills.

The reason for that was simple, they were too weak to handle the power of even the weakest cultivation pill, and most often they would cripple their cultivation instead of rising it.

The next morning Paul taught girls how to use a bow and left them to practice with a few arrows and a tree as a target.

It wasn't the best idea to jump from one thing to another but he had many things to teach them and he decided that for now using a weapon was far more useful for them than reading or writing.

Both girls were eager to learn archery and they trained seriously trying to get used to this weapon while Paul went to look for a stone that he needed for the grave.

It didn't take long for him to find one and using his storage space he moved it to the grave.

Using some earth magic and the name tags from the corpses he wrote the names of the deceased onto the stone.

Making the tombstone took a while but he was satisfied with the result.

While taking a little break he took a look at the girl's practice and he was impressed at their progress.

It took only a short time for them to be able to hit the tree with every shot from around forty meters while they had a problem with accuracy in the beginning even at ten meters.

-Ladies, this is enough for now.

Paul stopped their training.

-We need to continue to fill the hole with wood.

He said as he wanted to finish the burial preparations as soon as possible.

-Master can we go a bit up the stream? I remember seeing a lot of dry wood there.

Maya asked.

With her talent he never doubted her words, if she said that it was there then it was there.

-Go ahead but take your bows with you just in case and don't go too far.

At most, you can go to the place I burnt the grass at but don't go any further.

And if you see or feel anything dangerous return immediately.

Both girls nodded and they did not need his warning since they knew now just how dangerous that area could be, the bodies they were preparing to burn were the best proof of that.

While the girls went upstream he went in the opposite direction and just as he suspected there was a lot of dry wood along the river bank.

He filled his spatial device in a short time and also his storage space had a lot of wood inside it now.

He just returned to the camp and finished putting the wood he gathered into the hole filling it up to two-thirds in one go when he heard footsteps coming from the direction that the girls went in.

What made him cautious was that the steps did not sound like they were walking but as if they were running and there was a sound of something chasing them.

A moment later he saw the girls running as fast as they could and a spirit boar was chasing them.

The only thing that prevented it from catching them was the trees as it was too big and couldn't move its body well in the forest.
