Chapter 22 - Chapter 22 Healer needed.

The kitchen of the Fisherman's Inn was excellent as the food was both plentiful and delicious.

Paul, Mia, and Maya were just experiencing that when two guards arrived at the inn.

They exchanged some words with the Innkeeper and approached them.

-Excuse me, we are sorry for disturbing your meal but we would like to know if you know healing magic.

The older guard asked Paul politely.

It did not surprise him since he told the guard at the gate that he was a mage.

-Yes I can use healing magic but my level is low so the result depends on the wound.

He answered calmly.

-Is there someone who requires my assistance?

Paul asked as this was a standard practice in this world.

-Yes young master, just before we closed the gates three people came to the town and one of them is seriously wounded.

We dont have a resident healer here and at most can provide some first aid but this is way to serious for us to handle so can we bother you to see if you can help?

The guard explained the situation.

-I will be happy to help if I can but like I said, my level is low so I might not be able to help.

Paul said standing up from the table.

-Ladies finish the meal and go to sleep i think that it will take me a bit of time to return.

He said to the girls before leaving with the guards.

It wasn't like he was required to help but who knew maybe he would need help from the person he saved one day and it was always a good thing to have someone owe you a favor.

Soon they arrived at the guard's barracks and he was led into a room with three beds two of which were occupied.

There was a young man with some bandages on his arms and torso on the nearest bed but he was just sleeping and was in no immediate danger.

The woman on the other bed however was a completely different story.

She was in a very serious condition and the bandages that were applied on her wounds were already soaked through with her blood.

Next to the bed, a young girl was sitting on a chair and holding the hand of the wounded woman.

-Young master she is the one in need of assistance the guard said to him pointing at the woman.

The young girl looked at them as if she just noticed them.

-Who is this man?

She demanded to know.

Her voice was full of anger and despair.

-Young Miss this is the only mage that we could find and he can use healing magic.

The guard answered.

Hering that she looked at Paul from head to toe.

-Is this some kind of joke?

He is only level 31 what can he do?

Paul wasn't surprised with her reaction since he was only a low-level mage right now.

-But young miss no one in this town can use healing magic and we can't help your aunt.

It is already good that we managed to find him.

Only then did she understand that this was the best they could do.

-Ok then see what you can do.

She said to Paul.

-I'm not sure if I can help but I will do what I can.

He answered and approached the woman on the bed.

At first glance, he knew that this would be hard but there was still hope for her to survive.

After some time of looking at her wounds, he turned to the guards.

-Bring me a jar of strong wine, a needle, sewing thread, water, and fresh bandages.

The moment he finished the older guard left for the items.

-What are you planning to do?

The girl asked.

-Other than the wound on her stomach the other wounds are mostly deep cuts and they are bleeding a lot.

I don't have enough mana to treat all her wounds so I will first close the cuts by sewing them and then concentrate on healing her stomach which will require a lot of mana.

Paul explained his plan while he was waiting for the guard to return.

-No, I won't allow you to sew my aunt like she is a piece of clothing.

The girl exploded with anger.

-Then you can watch her die because even if I heal her stomach she will bleed out from her other wounds.

Paul stated the fact.

To tell the truth, he only saw a video on how to sew but this was a case where it was required.

His words stunned the girl as she didn't want to watch her aunt die.

-What guarantee do I have that this will work?

She asked Paul.

-None whatsoever, this is the only way I can think of to save her but I can't guarantee her survival, what I can guarantee is that she will certainly die if we don't try this method.

He answered honestly.

-Then do it, if she can survive thanks to that then do what you can.

The girl said with desperation in her voice.

At this time the guard came in carrying the items Paul requested.

-I will need your help with this.

He said to all of them.

Then he instructed guards to hold the woman down as she needed to be steady for this.

-You will help me hold the wound together while I work on it.

He said to the girl.

They all nodded.

Paul washed his hands with the alcohol which turned out to be a local booze then he washed the needle and threaded it.

When the preparations were complete he cut the bandage on the women's forearm.

Underneath there was a long and deep cut that was bleeding profusely.

-Pull the skin back together.

He instructed the girl.

Once she did what he asked of her, he started sewing the wound.

It was working but he was a novice at this so it wasn't pretty.

When he finished, he washed the wound with alcohol and instructed a guard to put a fresh bandage on it while he moved to the next cut.

Paul worked tirelessly for the next half an hour closing up wounds before he managed to close all of them.

By this time the woman was white as a sheet but she was still breathing which was a good sign.

The only wound left was on her stomach and for that one, he needed to use mana since it was a big wound and they were running out of time.

Paul cut the bandage and instructed the girl to remove it when he said so.

She nodded and he started casting the healing spell pouring all his mana into it.

Paul also this time took it slowly as there was no margin for error this time and if he made a mistake then this woman was as good as dead.

The bright ball of energy over his palm grew bigger and bigger until it reached the size of a grapefruit.

-Now!

He shouted and the young girl removed the bandage which resulted in a burst of blood right before Paul pushed the energy ball into the wound.
