Their words shocked Paul to the core.
-Where did you see it?
He asked them.
-At the place where you burnt down the grass.
Mia answered with fear in her voice.
It was obvious that what they saw, terrified them like nothing they had ever seen.
-It was walking around that area like it was looking for something.
Maya added.
-Did it spot you?
Paul asked as he had to know if they had to run immediately or did they still had time.
-It did not see us or at least I don't think it did.
Mia answered.
-We were still inside the forest when we saw it and we hid behind the tree.
Maya said.
-Once it had its back turned to us we ran for it.
Mia finished their story.
-We are sorry master, we always bring trouble for you.
Maya said apologetically.
She knew that they were both nothing but trouble for him when they were supposed to help him as his slaves.
-Don't worry about it, and this time you did good.
Now we know that this oversized spider is looking for us and we can't stay here any longer.
Paul said while checking the direction of the wind.
-This time you both were lucky, if the wind direction was the opposite of what it is then we would have serious trouble on our hands by now.
He explained as the wind was blowing from the direction of the spider beast.
-Either way, we can't stay here any longer so throw the wood into the pit and pack your things.
We will bury the dead and then leave this place at once.
Both girls rushed to do what they were told to do.
They also wanted to get as far away from that thing as they could and the sooner the better.
A statement that it was an oversized spider was an understatement, to say the least.
What they saw was a five-meter-tall and nine meters long tarantula with armor that could put a tank to shame, a sense of smell that was many times better than a bloodhound's, and a speed that allowed it to chase down almost any prey, add to that its intelligence and you get a killing machine that came straight from a horror movie.
After seeing it both girls understood why the mercenaries were unable to do anything to it when they encountered it.
Once the girls dropped the wood that they collected the hole was full and Paul took out all the bodies from his storage lying them on the pyre in a row.
Then he started to draw a magic circle next to the grave.
He had no intention of waiting for the bodies to burn down as the smell of burning flesh would spread fast.
If the wind changed its direction then it was almost guaranteed that it would attract the Dead breeder.
And since Paul had better things to do than die he decided to leave a spell that would cover the grave with the soil that he dug up once the pyre stopped burning.
This would take all of his mana to pull off but it was a way better alternative than waiting and depending on luck.
Also, he could always drink a mana potion to restore his mana quickly.
Once the circle was ready he poured all of his mana into it.
The pattern of the circle started to glow with a brown light signifying that this was an earth element spell.
When he was done he had just a sliver of mana left so he drank the potion and it restored his mana to full.
Paul knew that he would have to purify it later but that was just a minor problem right now he wanted to leave this place as soon as possible.
-Are the both of you ready to leave?
He asked when the girls approached him.
-Yes master.
They both confirmed.
Mia and Maya were a bit sad to have to leave this place since they were starting to consider it their new home but they knew that there was no other way.
-Eat these.
Paul said while handing over two recovery pills.
Both girls were exhausted after a whole day of walking and running and they had to make as much distance between themselves and this place as possible before night time.
These pills were exactly what they needed right now and as soon as they ate them their stamina started recovering and the exhaustion disappeared.
A few moments later both girls felt a lot better and they were ready to set off.
Paul made the mini fireballs that were floating above his hand.
-With this the custom is complete, may all of you rest in peace.
Once he said these words he launched the fireballs at the pyre lighting it up from all four-cornered and the middle.
The dry wood started to burn immediately and soon the fire enveloped all the bodies.
When Paul was sure that all the bodies were enveloped by the flames he activated the magic circle that he set up earlier.
It was set to bury the ashes after two hours which was more than enough time for the fire to do its work.
Before he even started the fire he made sure that the wind wasn't blowing in the direction of the place where the girls saw the Spider.
This should give them enough time to get out of there before the beast discovers that its offspring was burnt which was going to seriously piss it off.
-Let's go.
Paul said to the girls walking down the stream as this was the direction of the nearest town.
They left the camp and the burial pyre behind as they disappeared into the distance.
They walked as fast as they could in this terrain trying their best to get as far away as they possibly could from their former campsite.
-Master, why did we have to leave so quickly?
Maya asked once they were on their way for a while.
-Because the Dead breeder has an excellent sense of smell and it could find our camp the moment we burnt the bodies also when you saw it today the only reason why it wasn't able to find you was that the wind was blowing favoribly for you.
This made both girls shiver in fear since they knew that they had no chance against that monster and it was way too fast for them to escape it.
-Then where are we going now?
This time it was Mia who asked.
-We are going to the nearest town which if I remember correctly is downstream and about fifty kilometers away.
There we will stay for a day or two to do some shopping and get some information before we leave for a bigger town or a city.
Paul explained the plan to them.
He also told them that under any circumstances are they to tell anyone that they are dual cultivators and as for their appearance, he thought of a story to tell if someone asked for that.
