Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: About Losing Control

"Good thing?" Klein was stunned for a moment, then immediately understood why Lin Ruo said that.

He never underestimated the evil in human nature, just as he believed in the good. If the law of the indestructibility of Beyonder characteristics were widely known, those seeking promotion but unable to find the necessary materials might target other Beyonders. The cruelty of the Beyonder world would likely increase several times over.

How cruel… Klein exhaled and asked, "What does losing control have to do with the source of Beyonder characteristics?"

"You should know the creation myth, right? There's a very simple idea in the creation myth: all things originate from the same source." Lin Ruo didn't elaborate on the creation myth, knowing Klein had some understanding of it.

Moreover, while some parts of the creation myth are correct, much of it is fictional, so there's no need to repeat it.

"This idea isn't entirely correct, but it's not wrong either, because all Beyonder characteristics in this world indeed originate from the one Creator." Lin Ruo paused, not going into more detail to avoid potentially polluting Klein with too much information.

"Beyonder characteristics don't belong to humans. The act of humans containing Beyonder characteristics to gain power is, in a sense, a form of theft. And stealing something that doesn't belong to you comes with a price, one of which is losing control."

Lin Ruo continued to explain. He didn't fully explain the essence of losing control, as he couldn't tell Klein that losing control exists because the underlying rules of this world are madness and chaos. But his explanation wasn't a lie either, as gaining Beyonder powers through potions is indeed a form of theft.

Just like the essence of the "acting method" is a form of deception towards the potion.

"Theft…" Klein immediately thought of the existence of Sequence 0. If all Beyonder characteristics come from the so-called Creator, then what humans are doing now can indeed be considered stealing the Creator's power. "I see."

The amount of information Lin Ruo revealed in just a few words was almost too much for Klein to handle.

"Alright, let's end this topic here." Seeing Klein deep in thought, Lin Ruo lightly coughed and changed the subject. "Since we've talked about the source of losing control, let me tell you about the various situations of losing control."

"Losing control generally falls into five categories." Lin Ruo recalled the original story and explained, "The first three are directly related to taking potions. The first is losing control due to taking potions beyond one's level."

"Generally, whether ordinary people or Beyonders, they can only advance step by step from Sequence 9. But sometimes, special situations occur, like an ordinary person taking a Sequence 8 or Sequence 7 potion, or a Sequence 9 Beyonder taking a Sequence 5 or Sequence 6 potion. In such cases, there's a high probability of losing control."

"Once someone loses control, they either suffer mental death and their body collapses into a monster, or their personality changes drastically, becoming cold, cruel, impulsive, and irritable… or they go insane and become a walking monster." Lin Ruo sighed and said, "In any case, once a Beyonder loses control, they are no longer themselves but a monster wearing their shell."

Klein listened with his heart pounding and couldn't help but ask, "What about the second type?"

"The second type is when a naturally half-Beyonder takes a potion not of their sequence. Actually, the third type is similar to the second." Lin Ruo continued to explain:

"There are naturally half-Beyonders in this world. Some are purely talented, while others inherit corresponding characteristics from their Beyonder parents. For these people, if they don't take the Sequence 9 potion of their series when becoming a Beyonder, they may have mental problems at best or lose control on the spot at worst."

"The third type of losing control is similar to the second but refers to true Beyonders taking potions not of their sequence…" Lin Ruo continued, "Generally, once a potion sequence is chosen, it cannot be changed. If a Beyonder takes a potion not of their path, they may not lose control immediately the first time, but they will go half-mad and cannot advance further without almost certainly losing control."

At this point, Lin Ruo hesitated but continued, "However, this isn't absolute, as there are similar paths within the Beyonder sequences. Beyonders of similar paths can switch sequences to a certain extent. For example, the Night, Death, and Warrior paths are similar. A Beyonder of the Night path can take a potion of the Death path to change professions."

"This is another secret most Beyonders don't know…"

Another secret?

Lin Ruo really knows a lot of things ordinary Beyonders don't…

Klein couldn't help but marvel at this in his heart. He was about to ask about other similar paths when Lin Ruo said:

"Klein, remember, once your Beyonder path is determined in this world, your corresponding enemies and friends are also determined."

"This is very important, extremely important!"

Lin Ruo's voice was unprecedentedly serious and solemn when he said this.

This made Klein look in his direction a few more times. Although he saw nothing, he still nodded solemnly, "I understand."

"Good, let's continue with the remaining two types of losing control." Lin Ruo's tone returned to its usual lightness as he introduced the fourth and fifth types of losing control.

The fourth type is losing control due to the mental imprint left by the potion, advancing without fully eliminating the potion's influence. The fifth type is losing control due to hearing or seeing things one shouldn't, being bewitched by mysterious beings, or experiencing extreme emotional stress.

After explaining all the types of losing control, Lin Ruo saw Klein, who was clearly a bit frightened, and comforted him, "But you don't need to worry too much. Losing control isn't inevitable, especially at lower sequences, where the probability is very low."

"If you're interested, you can start by becoming a low-sequence Beyonder. After experiencing the changes and dangers brought by the potion firsthand, you can then consider further advancement."
