Chapter 18 - Chapter 18: The Old Pigeon in Action

---

The first thing Lin Ruo needed to handle was the three newly acquired extraordinary characteristics. He placed each one into an iron box and performed a simple ritual to create a sealed spiritual wall around each box, effectively shielding the extraordinary characteristics from the outside world.

Next, Lin Ruo took out the iron-black metal glove belonging to Heras and used the divination abilities of a demigod from the Diviner pathway to determine the glove's abilities and check for any tracking marks.

Fortunately, the divination results were positive. The iron-black glove had no additional tracking information. Although there was a slight chance of undetected tracking, considering the glove's owner was only a Sequence 6, this possibility was negligible.

Lin Ruo also confirmed the glove's functions and side effects.

According to the divination, the iron-black glove had the abilities of a Sequence 5 "Punishment Knight" from the Arbiter pathway. When worn, it could prohibit certain actions within a specific range, such as "no floating here," and could punish specific targets to enhance the wearer's attack capabilities.

Apart from these abilities, the glove had no other functions. Its side effects were simple: if worn without use, it only slightly increased the wearer's desire for symmetry, akin to mild OCD, which was manageable.

Additionally, after each use, the wearer would be prohibited from performing a random action for five hours. This prohibition was entirely random; it could be something trivial like "no drinking water," or something significant like "no using a specific extraordinary ability." Regardless of how many times it was used, only one action would be prohibited within the five-hour period.

"Such a uniquely mysterious side effect!" Lin Ruo thought, putting the iron-black glove away for now.

After handling these tasks, Lin Ruo took out paper and pen to review the day's actions.

Today's hunt had gone smoothly, even better than Lin Ruo had expected. He achieved all his goals: eliminating Kapin, killing three extraordinary beings, and successfully posing as an angel to divert the Storm Church's attention to Tingen.

Despite the perfect outcome, Lin Ruo saw several flaws in the hunt.

Firstly, he underestimated the overwhelming power of demigods over ordinary extraordinary beings.

In the original work, battles between mid-to-low sequence extraordinary beings and demigods were always dangerous and challenging. Even Klein, the protagonist, faced significant difficulties and sacrifices when fighting a half-demi-god dragon with a team of Sequence 5 members.

Secondly, Lin Ruo wasn't familiar enough with the demigod-level abilities of various sequences.

Despite the power gap, Lin Ruo allowed Heras to launch an attack due to his unfamiliarity with the Puppet's abilities. When using non-living entities to attack people in the dining room, he loosened his control over Heras, leading to the attack.

If Lin Ruo had been more skilled, he wouldn't have given Heras the opportunity and could have controlled him to death.

Apart from these issues, there were no major problems. The hunt was never meant to be a fair fight but a one-sided crush by a powerful extraordinary being.

After reviewing the hunt's shortcomings, Lin Ruo began writing the rules for playing the Hunter role based on his experience:

1. Prepare thoroughly before the hunt, gather intelligence, and make a plan.

2. A good hunter should actively seek to hunt powerful prey.

"Feels like stating the obvious..." Lin Ruo muttered, then laughed.

As a Sequence 9, the rules for playing the Hunter role were inherently simple.

However, these seemingly obvious rules were not easy to implement.

For an ordinary Sequence 9 to attempt a hunt like Lin Ruo's today would be suicidal.

"Time to study..." Lin Ruo muttered, heading to his study to learn Ancient Giant Language.

To delve deeper into the extraordinary, one must learn the various mystical languages of this world. Lin Ruo had filled his free time with self-study of these languages.

It was a heavy task, but Lin Ruo was confident in his learning ability and believed he could master it within a month.

In Beckland, at the Holy Wind Cathedral—

"Who is Kapin?"

After completing a preliminary investigation of Kapin's villa, "Singer of God" Ace Snake asked the Punisher squad leader in front of him, his eyes devoid of emotion:

"Why does his villa have an underground prison?"

The Punisher squad leader immediately replied:

"A wealthy man, rumored to be involved in multiple cases of missing girls, suspected of human trafficking, and secretly engaged in the slave trade."

"The underground prison proves the rumors true."

"Why would a human trafficker have several extraordinary beings protecting him? And why would an angel personally kill him?" "Singer of God" Ace Snake continued to ask.

Involving an angel was no small matter. Even "Singer of God" Ace Snake didn't believe an angel would cause such a commotion to kill an ordinary trafficker.

From the fact that Kapin was protected by several high-sequence extraordinary beings, he was clearly not simple.

"Sir, this requires further investigation. We tried using extraordinary means to gather clues but failed." The Punisher squad leader answered nervously, referring to attempts to gather information about Kapin.

"I tried too." "Singer of God" Ace Snake didn't blame him, continuing, "Keep investigating. If you find any clues, report to me immediately without acting rashly!"

"Also, send a deacon and his team to Tingen and increase the search for Aurora Order members in Beckland and Tingen."

After the Punisher squad leader left, "Singer of God" Ace Snake took out his notebook and wrote:

"Kapin, human trafficking, suspected Apprentice pathway angel, possible Tarot code-named organization, True Creator's sacrifice, hidden plot."
