Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Start of a New Friendship

Today at lunch was really fun too! We took Jane before Tom could get to her and ran off to the flower field. We began to talk about things we liked.Priscilla started. "I really like handsome boys with dreamboat eyes!!!"

Jane laughed. "Dreamboat? How dumb."

I retorted, "Hey!!!" Priscilla protested.

Jane laughed. Her smile was so pretty... and her laugh! I think I'm going crazy."Hm... I really like poetry! And flowers... and taking pictures!" How could someone state their interests so majestically? It's unfair!"Tori, your turn!" Priscilla said.

"Um... I like cats?"

Jane laughed. "Boooo! How boring!"

Priscilla teased, "Cats are not boring! At least it's better than 'handsome boys with dreamboat eyes!'" I retorted back, making a dumb voice when I said Priscilla's line.

"Hey... I do not sound like that!!!"Jane and I laughed before Priscilla joined in.✦•······················•🪻•······················•✦

Today, Priscilla didn't show up to class. Odd. At least we'll get some peace and quiet. I'm just joking... Priscilla is a good friend. When the bell rang for lunch, Jane approached me. "Tori... oh, I do hope it's alright if I call you that?" My cheeks turned red. "Please do—Ah—I mean, it's fine with me... I don't mind at all." Ughhhh!!!!! How utterly embarrassing! How did I screw up a simple response that badly!? I'm usually so reserved; what is happening? Curse you, Jane Myers, I swear! She tilted her head slightly and giggled. "Is Priscilla not here today?" she asked me.

"I don't think so... she might be sick," I added.

"Ohh... I do hope she gets better soon. Hey... let's go before Tom catches me," she said with a giggle.

I nodded and smiled too. She took my hand, and we ran off to the field. We took a seat amongst the lilacs, lavender, violets, and pansies."Hey, Tori... you're from New York, right?" she asked.

"Yeah... I am, Manhattan," I answered.

"Woah... cool! I like your accent," she said with a giggle. I felt my face heat up again... how stupid.

"Oh... thank you."

She giggled at my reaction. "How come you moved all the way to LA?" she asked.

"Well... my dad got a good business deal here, and school back home wasn't that great," I answered.

"Oh... did you not have friends?" she asked.

"Well... there were lots of rumors going around about me..."

Jane looked like she pitied me. "Oh dear... like what?"

I looked away, slightly embarrassed, and mumbled, "That I was a lesbian..."

She gasped, and her face turned red. Was "lesbian" such a foreign word? Well, I heard that her dad was a pastor...

"What a terrible thing to say! At least you'll get a new start here..."

I nodded. The bell rang, signaling the end of lunch and the start of a new period.
