Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: Anticipation

🪻 જ⁀➴ ㆍ✿ (Pov switch; Jane to Victoria!!!)October 2nd, 1956

Los Angeles, CA

It was 4pm. I didn't have to be at Jane's house until 7pm. But, I can't wait that long! I have to start getting ready. I have to look absolutely perfect!!! I began going towards the bathroom.

"Victoria, you're showering already? Don't you leave for your friend's house at 6:40?" Mother asked

"Yes, mother! But I have to be presentable!" I said, before closing the bathroom door.

"What a queer girl..." Mother said. Oh, she just doesn't get it!

I took a long shower, the warm water helped to calm my nerves. I don't think I've ever used so much soap in my life; I better smell good for Jane. The scent of lilac filled the air, I specifically picked that scent for her.

Now, it's time to blow dry my hair. Thank goodness I have short hair so it doesn't take too long.

As I stepped out, I caught Dolly perched on my bed, her blue eyes narrowed as if she were judging my every move.

"What's that face for, Dolly? You just don't get it. You'll never want to impress a pretty girl, and I honestly pity you for that."

Dolly looked away, her tail flicking dismissively. Not my fault she can't appreciate the stakes of tonight.

I let out a loud sigh, pacing as far as I could without unplugging my blow dryer.

"Dolllyyyy... do you think it'll go well? I mean, she's a pastor's daughter, for crying out loud! She couldn't even handle those annoying kids, Troy and Dante, kissing! But again... our last interaction...! Ahhh! Dolly, what if she really does like girls??? What if she likes ME? Oh, I'm actually going delusional, aren't I?"

I ran my fingers through my hair in frustration, burning my finger in the process.

"Ow! ...No fair! How does that damn pansy, 𝘥𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘦, pull a football player??? This is so not fair! I guess they deserve each other... they're both annoying as hell. Even if Jane did like girls, she probably wouldn't like me. I'm so serious... and awkward. I don't even know how to talk to girls!"

Dolly just trilled, flicking her tail as she settled in more comfortably.

What a jerk, honestly. I feed her, give her a bed to sleep in, and keep her alive, and this is all she does?

I rolled my eyes at her. "Wow. Thanks for the support, Dolly. Really helpful."

I finished blow-drying my hair and plopped down on my vanity chair, glancing back at my clock.

Oh shoot! Already 5!? Only an hour and 40 minutes left to get ready!!!

I started with makeup, of course. I liked my makeup to be more dark and bold because I could never really be "normal." I'm a lesbian, after all. So why even bother trying to fit in?

I chose light purple for my eyeshadow, adding a touch of shimmer for flair. I coated thick both my top and bottom lashes with thick mascara, and a swipe of eyeliner to finish the look.

There! Done! I brushed a bit of blush under my eyes and on my cheeks, then finished with a purplish-red lipstick.

Perfect! Oh shoot! It's already 5:40! Just an hour left! I should've started earlier!!

Grabbing my straightener, I styled the ends of my hair to stick out just right and directed my bangs how I wanted. A violet headband completed the look. Hair done! And now... clothes!

Thankfully, I always pick outfits in advance. I opted for a casual yet polished ensemble: a black blouse paired with a flowy violet skirt. Simple Mary Janes with a slight heel finished the outfit.

And finally, I spritzed on my favorite perfume, hoping it didn't scream "trying too hard!" I just wanted to make a good impression on Jane!

"I'll head out now! Wish me luck, Dolly!" I said, glancing back at her. Dolly just trilled, flicking her tail as if to say, "Good luck! Don't come home crying again."

How is a cat who can't even talk somehow more sassy than me and Dante when we get into a fight?

I shook my head at the thought. She's such a brat! If only I could channel that confidence.

But tonight was different—I had to impress Jane no matter what! Just like Dante said, I just have to be bold and out there! Take my chance....oh god...im so nervous.

ㆍ✿ જ⁀➴ 🪻(Pov switch; Victoria to Jane!!!) Its 4pm. I woke up at 6am!!! I've been SO antsy all day!!! I NEED to see Tori! I need to settle this once and for all! I need to know what is going on with me!!!

What if I really do like her??? Oh god! What if I get sent to the mental asylum???? No, no, no!!!

My heart is beating so fast! ...Oh my god...I FORGOT TO GET READY!!!! SHOOT!!!!!

Its alright! I showered this morning...so i have to do my hair! and makeup! and I HAVE TO PICK OUT AN OUTFIT!!! I should do that first...it takes the longest!

I began rifling through my closet. I can't look like I'm trying too hard; it's just a sleepover! But I can't look like a mess either! What to wear??? It's only for like an hour until we change into pajamas... but still!!!!!

After a frantic thirty minutes, I finally settled on a pale pink blouse and a white skirt that was shorter than the ones I usually wore. Great... now there's a HUGE mess all over my floor! Oh no, I better clean this up so Tori doesn't see! That would be so embarrassing!!!

Hair time!! — No! Makeup first, then hair! That should be obvious!

I started with a peachy pink for eyeshadow, adding a hint of shimmer.

A very light swipe of eyeliner and some mascara followed. Pink blush and lip gloss, and there! I was done!

Now for my hair. Thankfully, it was already curled from the curlers I put in last night. At least I remembered to do something... my goodness!

I added a small pale pink flower clip to match my blouse. There! Finally ready!

Oh, wait! Perfume! I quickly sprayed on violet scented perfume. I imagine this is what Tori would smell like if I were real close to her.

Oh shoot! It's already 6:50!!! Tori was supposed to be here at 7!!!

Just as panic set in, I heard a knock on my door and practically jumped out of my seat! Ahh! My heart was racing! This... this will determine everything! I'm so scared!

I ran downstairs and flung open the door.

"Hi..." I said, a bit out of breath from running.

"Hi..." Tori replied, sounding a bit awkward.

God, I'm so nervous! Wait—I shouldn't take the Lord's name in vain.

Oh, but whenever I look at Tori, I forget my left from right... better yet, right from wrong!!!

"Ah—! Come in..." I stuttered, flustered.

She nodded a "Thank you" and took off her shoes, leaving them by the door.

She looked so pretty!!! My heart was fluttering so much, and I couldn't help but feel a rush of excitement mixed with fear!
