Chereads / The Lord of Spirits / Chapter 3 - Spirit Wielder

Chapter 3 - Spirit Wielder

A haunting presence emerged from the television, just like a scene from a horror movie, sending chills down Evan and Sam's spines and overwhelming them with despair.

"Your spirit qi is even stronger than the last time we met." The red-eyed creature exclaimed with saliva dripping from its mouth as it fixated on Evan's body with an intense, unrelenting hunger.

"It can talk!?" Horrified, Evan's legs began trembling at the spine-chilling sight of the demon. The demon was dyed black, with faint red veins glowing around its head as if they were alive.

His confidence diminished at the sight. He was sure the demon was the same demon that killed Sam. No— He was positive that it was the same demon.

However, it was completely different from five years ago. The red-eyes demon back then was similar to the white-garment ghosts he usually see with the main difference been that the demon back then had faint black veins around its body.

Now the demon head was black and had red veins around its head, telling Evan that he was far stronger than five years ago!

"Of course I can talk! During these five years I have worked hard to become a black-veined demon and now I am half way to becoming a red-veined demon!" The red-eyes demon clench its fist together as it praised itself.

"I am the great demon lieutenant, Ozgoz under the command of vice general Bragath!" It introduced itself.

The red-eyes demon stare lustfully at Evan while licking its lips before continuing, "If I were to eat your soul I would immediately advance to a red-veined demon, if not a peak red-veined demon!"

"Unfortunately, I did not come for you or I would have killed you right here and now!" The red-eyed demon said to Evan before it swept its eyes around the room before its gaze landed on Sam.

"After five years, I've found you boy!" The demon spoke with palpable excitement, but its voice sounded utterly wretched. From within the confines of the television, its hands slowly emerged, casting an eerie shadow around the entire room. Sam could feel its hungry gaze fixated on him, inciting an intense desire to scream, but no one could hear his cries.

"To think your spirit continue living after I ate your soul! The shock I felt when I realized that somewhere your spirit still lives on made me very pleased." The red-eyes demon sighed in gratitude.

"It means your spirit must be as delicious as your soul!" It said just as five pairs of matchsticks struck its face.

Evan seeing Sam's state burst with renewed confidence. In a split second, he ignited five matchsticks as the red-eyed creature's hands emerged from the television.

Placing them between his fingers, he gripped them firmly so they wouldn't fall out, before striking down his hand like a knife into its head!

The matchsticks broke in contact with the creature's skin. But before that, they lit his face on fire.

The flames burn its head for a while before quickly burning out.

"Ineffective!" The red-eyes demon laughed with a wild grin. Evan seeing that the flames had no effect grit his teeth harder and plunged the iron knife into the demon's skin!

The knife descended with a desperate force, but its purpose in life was ultimately futile as it shattered into fragments, much like the matchsticks that snapped apart.

"What you are doing is meaningless boy. A mortal shouldn't attempt to face the impossible!" The demon let out a fierce laugh and raised its hand, delivering a powerful slap to Evan's face that sent him flying.

Right before being hit, Evan ignited the entire box of matches and hurled it at his target.

The entire room quickly became engulfed in flames as the demon transformed into a blazing figure, causing the fire to rapidly spread throughout the room and turning it into a scorching furnace.

Evan who was flung across the room coughed violently, his jaw broken causing unbelievable pain, blood oozing out of his mouth.

With fire burning in the room, Evan felt it hard to breathe, but he knew he couldn't give up now.

Sam's life was on the line!

Speaking of Sam, he quickly came up to him, trying to lift him in an attempt to let them both escape.

"You cannot escape. I sealed this room in another world. No one saving you today and no one's escaping." The creature stated before appearing in front of them both. Its hands reaching out for Sam's throat.

"I won't let you!" With pain coming from his jaw and blood escaping his mouth, Evan shouted with a pitiful look.

Evan's palm hit the creature in its chest as a last desperate attempt.

But once again, his attack did no damage whatsoever.

Evan ignored it and continued hitting it.

One time.

Two times.

Four times.

Sixteen times.

He continued hitting it until his hands began to bleed.

Sam seeing Evan trying to defeat the demon, eyes became watery before he finally made up his mind.

With a determined look he appeared in front of Evan and took a large amount of his blood from his bleeding hands and swallowed it!

"Oh?" The red-eyes demon curious to see what will happen next backed away with a slight excited smile.

"What are you doing?" Exhausted, Evan asked when a sudden burst of strength entered his body. A magic circle appeared beneath his and Sam feet, a invisible chain linking them together, materialize in his mind.

At the same time, all his injuries healed. He felt energize to fight again.

Not only does he feel energized, but also twice as strong than he previously was!

Sam noticing all of Evan injuries healed rushed at the demon head-on!

Evan seeing this didn't dare be left behind, he chased after him, his speed twice as fast than before.

The two of them raised their fist, combining their strength together with the intentions of defeating this hateful demon right there and now!

"So you became a Spirit Wielder? So what?! Your Spirit is weak and you the wielder is even weaker! It's all futile! Hell Qi!" The demon sneered as a sinister aura spread outside its body.

An aura filled with decay spread out causing the two to instinctively kneel in fright. The aura was so sinister it caused the entire room to begin deteriorating and making it harder for Evan to breathe.

"Did you really think an immature white spirit could defeat me? You yourself can't even use spirit qi!" The red-eyes demon mocked Sam before laughing loudly at Evan causing the two to look at him with infuriated looks.

"It's truly disappointing that I cannot eat you." Recalling Evan's desperate attacks and seeing his furious looks, filled with despair, the demon felt a sense of sadness for itself.

The creature pushed Evan aside, his simple push causing Evan to be sent flying again.

Evan hit the wall, his condition worse than the previous blow.

"Sam..." Evan called out, the pain causing him to feel like he would faint at any moment.

"Sam!" He called out again, lifting his body with all the strength he could muster. The demon was only seconds away from devouring Sam whom it held up with his hand, gripping his throat.

"What can I do...!" Evan racks his brain trying to brainstorm ideas to help Sam. He felt hopeless, the ideas he found online were utterly useless, even after the strength gained from Sam he was useless, all he could do at this time was blame himself. After all, who on this earth have ever faced a demon head on and make it out alive? If all the killings happening in Mount Phantom were caused by demons during these five years then that would mean no one has ever survived against one and not to mention even with the power up from Sam he still lost. He could only blame himself for being weak.

Suddenly, a beeping sound resonates within the room that was said to be in another world.

It was so loud that even the demon heard it.

"That sound—!" The red-eyes demon's facial features changed, it recognized that beeping.

Notification: Would you like to become a Spirit Hunter?

A female voice resonates within the confined room, breaking the logic of the room being in another dimension.

"Impossible! How did they find me so quickly!" The red-eyes demon shouted with rage revealing in its eyes as it flung Sam aside to the point that it lost its appetite.

Evan turned his head to see his phone lying right next to him, the screen lit with the same notification he considered to be spam.

The red-eyes demon finding the source of the voice ignored Sam, it sprinted towards Evan, its hands turning into claws, its facial features looking extremely ugly as its mouth split into four.

Noticing the demon's attempt to kill him, Evan was sure now. This demon with red eyes he thought had no fear was afraid of the notification!

Evan noticing this showed a bloody smile before answering, "I do."

At that exact moment, a layer of frost appeared in the room, extinguishing the flames. Just as the red-eyes demon reached Evan, its claws stopped just mere inches from his face.

A freezing aura froze it in place, a cold feeling seeping into its body making it unable to move.

"Welcome to The Spirit Hunter Association." Another voice came from behind the door to the room.

The door creaked open, revealing a shadowy figure. The figure came closer and the first thing that came into Evan's view was long diamond-like blue hair.

"It's you...!" Evan stared in shock at the figure that just entered his room. It was the girl he saw at the taxi stand!

The girl's eyes were icy, giving off a detached feeling, her skin was also extremely pale caused by the freezing aura surrounding her.

She held a long spear made of ice. Alongside her expression, she looked like a queen of frost, a warrior born from ice, a aloof goddess in control of all that is cold.

"Spirit Hunter!" The demon roared as it tried to gain back control over its body.

BOOM!

Just as it seemed like the demon could move again, the spear vanished from the girls hand, and in a blink, it tore through the demon's body that seem to be made out of steel. The force then sent the demon crashing outside the room, shredding through the room walls in the process.
