Chereads / The Cursed Love Of The Princess / Chapter 4 - The Uncertainity

Chapter 4 - The Uncertainity

I left Adam's office shortly after him. I did not see Sam as I was passing through the main cabin; probably she had left after doing her business.

It was about ten o'clock when I arrived at my apartment. It was an exhausting day, and the new stuff I learned left my head whirling. I believe Adam can assist me in getting my revenge, but first I have to close an appropriate deal. Now is my moment to begin implementing my plan.

I devoured a bowl of instant noodles quickly because I lacked the energy to prepare anything. After taking a quick shower, I headed to my bed. I entered my dream world the moment my head touched my pillow's plushness.

The sound of the tower bell rang in my ears. The realm was an array of energy. Someone was attacking Devana. My caretaker led me to the secure room. In no time I could hear the clashing of the swords. People screaming; I could hear the cries of maids outside. My eyes pricked at the corner as I could feel the tears rolling down my cheeks. Even at the age of fifteen, I can fight, I told myself.

I reached for my sword and stepped out of the safe. One of the hostile soldiers was racing in my direction. He was aware of who I was; he looked me in the eyes, charging towards me. I was ready for a fight with him. But he fell face first when he was only one foot away from me. I saw an arrow had penetrated his back. I noticed a member of our own troops when I looked up.His face was half covered, but I noticed his blue piercing eyes. It made my heart fluttered, and I could feel my stomach twisting. I had a strange sensation in my chest.

"My princess, you're not supposed to be out here," he uttered. I continued to stare at him without responding. His lips moved, but I was unable to comprehend a word he spoke. He took me by my arm over to the secure chamber. Pushed me inside and closed the door, beforw glancing in my direction one last time. I could feel his gaze on me before he went. I could hear the sound of swords striking outside which was followed by a scream that was extremely loud.

My heart was thumping, and I was drenched in my sweat when I woke up. It was just a dream but replayed one of my memories. I have not dreamed about him in a long time. That was all I could remember about him. That was the last time I ever met him. After the war, I looked everywhere for him but was unable to find him.

His face was barely visible to me through the scarf when he rescued me; thus, it was harder for me to recognize him. Even though I realized there was a good chance he wouldn't be alive, I continued to hope. It was just a month after the conflict finished that Devana met its destruction.

I got up and had a long shower to decompress. I wanted Adam to provide me more details. I combed my hair back and put on a cream-colored pant suit. I wore very little makeup to enhance my appearance. I arrived at work early today. Adam was seated in my recliner, holding a coffee mug, as I walked into my cabin.I looked at him questioning, "What are you doing here?" He retorted, "You forget this is my company; I can be anywhere I want."

"Good morning sir," I murmured in an agitated tone.Adam said, "So no more questions now." I gave him a harsh look. "Why even bother?"

"So you know that asking too many question is futile",he said, giving me a knowing look. I heard someone knock on the glass door of the cabin while I was staring sternly at Adam. It was Allen; he works on the floor below in the marketing department. "Hello Rose, happy morning. How are you feeling today?"

Allen enquired.

"Hi Allen, Thank you; I'm good. Are you in need of anything?" I asked. "No, I just thought to say hello as I was passing by. In any case, will you be available for lunch?" Allen said, "We can try the taco cart on the left street just down the lane".

"Ms. Rose, I believe you are overlooking the fact that we have a lunch meeting with a client from overseas." Adam gave me a look as he said.

"Sorry, but nobody informed me about it." I gave Adam a dubious glance."It's an impromptu arrangement," he answered.

"I understand you're busy, but how about we go see that new movie after five?" Allen asked. As i was about to answer adam again beat me to it spoke, "And yes, you are required to organize the files and provide recommendations for the team members,".

"Do I really have to do it today?" I asked him as I turned to face Adam. He gave a nod. I looked at Allen apologetically declining, "I'm not sure I could make it today; may be next time?" ,"Okay no problem Rose. We can plan something someother time", Allen remarked, smiling at me as he walked away.

Suddenly, I had a ton of work ahead of me. It wasn't even apparent to me until now. Adam added, "See me in the afternoon with all the recommendations," and he walked out of my cabin. I started working on the files almost instantly and just organizing them took an hour. I really must give up on this work and begin working on my goal. Since these will eventually serve no purpose for me.

By afternoon, I had everything done and was making my way to the CEO's floor for the meeting the oversea client. I had assumed Sam was fired, but I saw her sitting in her cabin. This time I was led inside Adam's office directly.

Upon arriving, I observed Adam seated on the couch instead of his chair. "Hello Princess, how are things going so far?"

"You know this is not something I am focused on, and also these things are too easy for me, I replied. As I turned to pick up the files to show them to him. I felt someone behind me feeling the breath near my ears. I turned it was Adam. He was in my breathing space.

I instinctively retreated two steps, bringing my back knee to rest on the table. I said, "What are you doing?" Adam said, "Nothing, just taking a closer look to confirm you are who you say you are." I tried pushing him since I had shivers down my arms. It bothers me to be cornered. He did not even slightly budge. I met his gaze directly. His pupil was turning from blue to blood red. "You're a vampire," I said, in disbelief. When I pushed him this time. He obeyed, moving to one side. "You fabricated the truth about the curse."

Adam retorted, "I haven't lied about anything; I haven't just told you everything."

"How is it possible?" I stated. "You cannot be any other creature if you are Devana's true royalty, which even shocks me to think about".

He remarked, "It's a story for another time."

A knock was heard, and adam's assistant Liam came in. "Did I just walk upon something significant?" He said."No, you are right on time," I said, as I hurriedly left Adam's office not bother if there was truly some meeting.

When I reached my cabin, I drank a full glass of water. I thought I had help to finally start my revenge. But Adam had his own secrecy. I cannot trust him even the slightest. He is after something big, in which, if needed, he will sacrifice me too. I have to be cautious and get answers from him.

I calmed myself and tried coming up with the theory about Adam. It was already evening, so, I started packing my things to leave. I heard my cell phone ring. It was an unknown number. I ignored it. It ranged again. I picked up. "We need to talk," I heard Adam on the other side. "We will talk tomorrow," I answered and hanged up. My phone started ringing again. I ignored it and started moving towards the elevator. As soon as the elevator opened, I saw Adam standing inside with his hands in his pockets.

He looked at me but did not say anything. I entered the elevator and pressed the parking. As soon as the lift closed. Adam was onto me. He pressed both my arms on the side of the elevator.

In reflex, I hit him with my head on his nose. I heard a crack, and this gave me satisfaction. He thought I was a weakling. In an instant, he held me from the back, pressing my body on the one side. He was holding both my hands at the back.

I could hear his breath near my ears. "What are you doing?" I asked angringly. "I said we need to talk, but you won't listen."

I attempted to break free, but he holded me tightly. I continued to fidget for a while. At last, I said, "What are you wanting to talk about?".

I waited for his response. "I want us to work together, he said.

"I cannot trust you; I know you have some ultier motive; I know it," I replied. He took his time before responding.

He got closer to me than he had previously. His cloth was really nice against my back. His muscles were straining on my back from his front. He whispered in my ear, "I have been looking for you for centuries, and now that I have found you, I cannot let you slip."
