It took me a moment to process what he had said. "Have we met before? However, I can't recall when," I questioned Adam. "I had no idea that your memory was so poor." He answered. I finally turned and looked at him, perplexed. "Do you recall the unexpected attack on Devana? I served as your knight in shining armor. And now if are willing to talk lets take this conversation to my office."
He pressed his floor and we were there in no time. I started walking and he was hot my tail. I was utterly shocked. The eyes have the same characteristics. I'm still baffled as to how I missed it. "It was you! I looked for you later that day". I accused Adam . He answered smiling, "I know I am good at hiding."
Now, when I looked at him and noticed his eyes, I felt a sense of euphoria. It is the same feeling that I experienced during the rescue. My heart was pounding unnaturally fast. I am confused and my forehead was getting cold. I started to breathe laboriously and felt my legs giving out. Using the handrest on the sofa as support, I sat down.
Adam handed me a glass of water. I took it, and the moment his finger touched mine, I felt a wave of electricity in my body, and I could see the spark of the same where our finger contacted. I looked at him in disbelief.
"What is this?" I enquired. He looked at the spark and nodded. It vanished a few seconds later. Adam gave me a startled look, but he quickly covered it up. Without turning to face me, he added, "It's your energy that is trying to unleash; you should practice your powers." Then he walked over to his chair. I gave him a dubious glance.
I think he is hiding something. What he said is not the whole truth. "Adam, I am on the path of taking revenge from the heavens or removing the curse on me. I don't want to live forever in a loop. I don't want people to die near me." I said in one breath.
Adam looked at me, "Taking revenge that too from the heavens is not an easy task. To reach the heaven's gate itself is not possible. You have to awaken your powers and reach your full potential. And the curse is forever; it cannot be reversed.".
"Why must our people endure suffering for actions they did not commit? bearing the cost of the transgression." I answered, "I am prepared for anything. I have hundreds of years of experience. I've read and practiced till my best of capabilities. Air was an element that my father could manipulate. It seems like I could inherit it from him. The crimson moon, which only happens once every two hundred years, is what I'm waiting for. I've trained my body to withstand and contain the powers that were about to be unleashed, and I'm ready to control it.
Approaching a drawer, Adam pulled out a stack of documents encased in a faded brown sheet. It had the Devana kingdom's emblem. "It is the original confidential document pertaining to the Devana prophecy. It is the sole instance. Before I departed, I stole it from the royal library to figure out how to interpret what the saint had said",stated Adam.
"Why didn't you come back then, when you went to find a solution?" I enquired. "I went to a different realm to locate the remedy for the prophecy, but it was too late. I looked everywhere for solutions for two nights, but I was unable to find anything" Adam replied.
I retrieved the document that was resting on Adam's desk. It was written in Devani, an archaic language. It repeated what the saint had said earlier that day. The fact that it is recorded here indicates that King Louis was aware of it earlier. He created that secure space for me for that reason. I give Adam a disbelieving glance. He was aware of this. "King Louis concealed this information from everyone, even though he could have given it to the ministers to help them find a solution", Adam angrily yelled, "He is a traitor; Devana suffered because of him."
He then proceeded to throw punches onto the wall beside him. I was still in shock at what he'd said.He was correct; we could have looked for the answer if my father had known. Adam turned to face me and walked threateningly, saying, "You are his blood, his precious daughter; maybe we could do the people of Devana some justice by killing you.Your father built a place for you so that you can survive, he could have done the same for our people too, isn't it?" Adam questioned me.
"It's possible that he searched for solutions but was unsuccessful. I was unaware of this and i was only a child"I answered.
"You were a child but not your father, It is the great king's duty to protect his subjects", stated Adam. He was right, and this time I didn't defend his remarks.
There was silence. Neither of us spoke for a while. I was trying to make sense of it all. I'm still not sure if I have the right motivation. I still recall Adam threatening to kill me. I told Adam, "I think I need some time to process all of this."
" And you really believe you can just walk out that door? How about the punishment you should received? Adam shot back.
"Like the heavens, you are committing the same error, since you're attempting to hold me accountable for something I didn't do.My heart is full with burning questions, and I still need answers to fill them. You believe that I've been spared. I would have preferred to perish with my people rather than going through daily agony knowing that I am the unfortunate one who must grieve their loss in solitude." I said as I hurriedly left. I did't wait for adam's reply.
I was driving like crazy. I stopped my car in the middle of the road to arrange my thoughts. I screamed my heart out. It's difficult to believe something in which I had so much faith. My father's betrayal was too heavy on my heart.
When I reached my apartment, the door was already opened. Have I been robbed?. My whole place was scattered as if every drawer had been rummaged through. My clothes were out of the closet. My kitchen was smeared with shattered pieces of my dinner set. My study table was broken, and so was the TV, and my laptop was missing. Apart from that, nothing was stolen.
I sat staring at the wreckage in front of me from my bed. This person is not after me; rather, they are for my father's soul pendant. A knock on my front door startled me. Nathan was there when I walked over to see it.
"Hello, how are things going? He inquired, "Have you been robbed?"
"Well, it appears that way, but nothing was taken except for my laptop," I answered.
"Do I need to call the police?" Nathan asked. "No, I'll take care of things by myself. I said, "Thank you."
To console me, he moved in closer. He put his arms around me and gave me a hug. "And here I was worrying about you." I heard Adam standing at my front door. Looking at me straight in my eyes,I don't why all of a sudden i felt guilt and instantly I distanced myself from Nathan.
"What happened here?" Adam asked. "Somebody broke into my apartment," I said. "You can spend the night at my place." Nathan offered. But before I had a chance to respond. Adam got there before me. "As the CEO of your company, I believe you ought to reside in the guesthouse that the company offers for its employees. It is easily accessible from the office."
"No, I'm grateful. I believe I can get by on my own for few days, I'll find a hotel," I remarked, motioning for the two of them to go."Your wish, but call me anytime you need me," nathan said and relunctly left.
"I think you should leave too. Thank you for checking on me. As you can see. I am absolutely fine." I said to Adam. "I don't think you are safe here. Your life is in danger, Princess." Adam remarked. "As you know, I cannot be killed, and most importantly, I can take care of myself," I replied.
Leaving Adam in my leaving room, I went to pack some necessary things to leave for the hotel. Adam followed me in my bedroom. "Don't be stubborn about this. This is non negotiable,Whoever have done this. They cannot kill you but they can torture you", he reasoned. "Do you think I'm just an ordinary human, Adam? You underestimate my strength," I remarked.
Adam became agitated and came hurtling toward me. He attempted to grasp my hands, but I threw him across the room with a single push. He gave me a startled expression. "You've unleashed your abilities," he said.
