I barely made it to the other side of the road before I see one of the creatures coming around the corner at the end of the street. Phew, if I had been even one second slower it would have noticed me and I would be done for. I clear my head from these thought off my mind and concentrate at the task on hand. The booth I need to get to is only a few meters in front of me so I crawl over as fast as I can and open the door on the back of it. It is filled with a couple of people who back away when they see the door opens but they relax slightly when they see it's just another human. I try to spot our school uniform in the crowded space but when I do my whole face turns grim and I kinda wish I hadn't. Fuck this shit. What did I ever do to the universe that makes it hate me so much?!
Not only isn't it Eloria, it's one of the bastards who are always mean to me, and yeah almost all people are, but he and his friend are just a special breed of assholes, nothing more than spoiled brats showing off daddy's money. They are exactly the kind of people I hate the most, they have the power to help the poor but instead of doing something they look down upon them and treat them like nothing more than shit under their shoe. And I have the bad luck to find one of these jerks instead of my best friend that might be dying why waisted my time to get here. Although, it is quite amusing to see one of them hiding among the "peasants", shaking and near tears. It seems like daddy's money can't protect you from real threats when it really matters, can it?
I sigh and move closer to an older women I recognise as the owner of the shop where Eloria buys her dresses. "Ms. Jane, it's nice to see you're alive and well. Do you happen to have seen Eloria today? Do you have any clue where she might be?" "It's really nice to see you alive too. I did in fact see Eloria today, yes, she left my store just a few minutes before this whole mess happend. She can't be far from here. She said she wanted to go to Lea's accessorie shop next so she probably went in that direction.", she whispered back.
I nodded and turned to leave but a hand grabbed me shoulder. Yuck, what does that guy want from me?
The asshole was looking at me pleading. "You can fight, right? And don't even try to lie, it's basically the only thing you ever talk about and otherwise you wouldn't have survived this catastrophe so long. How much?", I frown at him. "What the hell do you mean?" He rolls his eyes annoyed. "Protecting me, duh." If I wouldn't be hiding from mad creatures around me I would have totally burst out laughing. "Me? Protecting you? Why in the name of gods would I want to do that?" He smirks and I really want to punch that overconfident look out of his face. "Money, of course. Everyone has a price. Name yours and I will have the money handed over to you as soon as I have been escorted back to my house safe and sound." "Gods, no. You can keep your money to yourself. The world will be a better place without you."
Suddenly he seemed less confident and more desperate again. "Come on, Khestri, please! I don't want to die!", he whisper-yells but his begging is not what caught my attention. My face scrunches up in confusion. "Why the hell do you know my name?" His eyes widen and he stares at me a few moments before clearing his throat. "Doesn't everyone know it?" "No, I wouldn't know why people I have nothing to do with would be bothered to learn my name...?" "Ouch" "What?" "What 'what'?" I sigh. "Can you just stop it please? I have important things I need to do." He smirks. "I don't know what you mean"
