Five years later
Lisa's POV
My hands tapped continuously on the arm rest of the chair as I waited for Justina, my mental therapist. I had tried to ease the burden in my heart with the little movement of my fingers, but it did so little to make me ease up.
I checked my phone, but it had only been two minutes since she went out of the room to get my brain scan. I want to say I have done well in my test, but it was the fourth time in five years that I had taken it, and each time it came out negative.
It's been five years trying to remember little fragments of who I was, five years since I tried to recall my past, and five years since I have been fighting traumas.
I wanted to be normal again. I didn't know what it felt like to be normal, but the sound of it felt ecstatic.
I tapped my hands on the arm rest again and again until I felt my fingers ache, then my legs began to tap subconsciously on the floor, and then my hands proceeded to tap my thighs .
A notification beeped on my phone. I took it; it was a message from a hired nanny for my children.
'How are you, Lisa? Your girls wanted to say hi. Her text was followed by a little video and a voice note.
The thought of them made my heart ease up a little bit as I tried breathing through the anxiety.
'I am fine; I am totally fine,' I reassured myself as I anxiously waited for a report.
"Lisa! Darling, I just got your report," Justina said as she burst right into the room. I quickly stood from my chair, my hands clenching the excess fabric on my dress as I paced around the room while trying to give her space to take her seat.
"Take your seat, Lisa; there's no need to panic," she reassured.
I took my seat; I had become more anxious than I was while she was away.
"What does it say?" I asked.
I watched her sip from her cup of coffee in her hands, then relaxed back on her seat as she flipped through the pages of the file she had in her hands, like she was reading them all over again.
"Well…" I persisted.
"Well, from what I have here, I am glad to inform you that you are finally fine to go. The test showed that your brain has healed, and from your test, your memory might just be back. You might experience trumas, but the chances are very low."
"Shit"
Tears were in my eyes as my head sagged to my hands. I had waited so long for these specific results.
"Oh Lisa, darling, you fought through this like a brave lady; this is the fastest recovery for a lady who had suffered several brain injuries; you fought through it," she added as she stood up from her chair to give me a reassuring shake.
"You can finally go back to your children; you won't hurt them, I promise," she concluded.
"You go out there, girl! , go and crush the world," she patted me gently on the back, then excused herself.
The rest of the conversation was totally abstract, and soon I left the hospital and drove back home.
A lot has happened in the last five years.
My babies were four years old , they were part of my blessings. In the past years I had met a family who cherished me more than anyone in the world.
The Bieber family had adopted a twenty five year old lady who was fighting for her life five years ago and was admitted in their hospital.
They were the most influential in town and one of many billionaires here, they had sponsored me and my child throughout this year. I simply could not thank them enough for all that had happened.
They gave me a life no else had, they were my real parents as far as I am concerned.
Thirty minutes into the road, I finally arrived at the mansion, I drove into the garage then walked up the stairs.
"Mum!"
Daisy and Maisy ran towards me the moment they set their eyes on me. My little bundle of joy giggled as they wrapped their tiny hands around me.
"Oh, baby!" I exclaimed.
We had been isolated for some time now, and seeing them now meant it could finally keep them. My joy knew no bounds.
"I missed you, mom," Maisy said. I ruffled their hair and kissed them.
"I missed you too, and guess what?" I opened my bag, then handed them the gift I had bought for them on my way back from the hospital. Their elated giggles burst out as they jumped, danced, and kissed me.
I pushed them aside slightly while setting them off to play with their nanny while I went to convey the news to the people who had made it possible.
"Good afternoon, mom, and good afternoon, dad."
Their names were Sabrina and Michael Bieber; to me, they were mom and dad, while to my little angels, they were grandma and grandpa, and together we were one happy family.
"Oh Lisa
She pulled me in for a hug, and both of them hugged me tightly for a while before letting me go.
"Your therapist told us the result. We are so happy for you," Mom said.
I reciprocated with a slight nod; it wouldn't be possible without them.
"Thank you so much. I am grateful for the both of you. I and my children wouldn't be alive if you hadn't stepped in when you did."
"Oh Lisa! It isn't a big deal; you and your children have been more than a blessing to us; words can't explain," Sabrina said.
"And you know what! For being a fighter, I have a present for you!" Michael pulled out an envelope and handed it to me.
It wasn't the first time he gave me gifts, and each time it was something exaggerated. No matter how far I went, I was certain I wouldn't guess right.
"It's a documented agreement, giving you our share of our companies and assets; all that we own now belongs to you and the children."
"What!, no! No, I can take this," I retorted as I handed it over to them.
"Oh, baby, you can take this! We don't have anyone to give it to; you know we don't have children, and you have been with us for five years; it's the only thing we can do."
"It's too much; I can't, please."
"Take it; you deserve it, and besides, now that you are finally fine, I believe it's best you go to your own home, to your real family, so they will know you are totally fine and alive."
"Family?"
"Yes"
For all I cared, the only family I knew was them. I didn't want to go back; I might have healed from the damages caused, but going back there meant war. For five years, all I had thought about was revenge; I feared the outcome of my anger.
"Lisa, I know it might be hard for you, but it's best if you go. You know you are always welcome here," Sabrina said as she pulled me in for a hug.
"I just want you to come back to normal," she said as she sobbed behind me.
Nothing was normal to me anymore; my new normal was vengeance. If I stepped foot back in that land, I would make sure I wiped the soil with their blood; I would be their worst nightmare.
"Promise me you will go back home" she said.
I stared deep into her teary eyes; I had no other option.
"I promise"
