Chapter 11 - PreHistoric - 2

**POV - ■■■■■**

**LOCATION - EARTH**

Upon hearing this, I realize that we are extremely far from home. "Graiger, we're in danger here."

"I'll turn on the beacon my father gave me. Maybe he'll show up soon," Graiger says, panicking, looking for the cube with a red button.

"Good idea, but it will probably take days for them to get here. Remember what your father said about the beacon's failure," I say.

"■■■■■, thanks for reminding me of that detail," Graiger says with an awkward and worried expression.

"Okay, I'm being pessimistic, but I believe it will take at least two days for them to find us here. We're not close to Gallifrey, and we can't spend the night in a cave that seems inhabited. Look at those eggs over there in the corner," I say, pointing to some eggs at least 50 centimeters on the right side of the cave.

"Where did these eggs come from? How did I not notice? But you're right; we should leave right now," Graiger says, startled to notice the eggs.

"But what will we do in such a primitive world? Use a sonic screwdriver?" I ask with an ironic smile.

As I say this, we start to hear the ground tremble slightly, as if something big is walking.

"Let's hide and speak very quietly. If there's no other option, we'll have to kill this creature," I whisper, pushing Graiger against a rock wall.

Graiger nods and grabs two weapons from the prototypes, handing one to me. We wait for the creature to appear.

We crouch down and wait. Soon, two large animals, at least a meter tall, appear. Their backs are covered with spikes, with two large spikes at the start of their backs, four on their faces, two on the sides of their heads, and two at their eye level.

They pass by us as if they don't notice us. "Come on, Graiger, it's our chance to get out of here. They look like a couple."

As I say this, we start to leave the cave, but not before I watch the creatures from a distance. After that, we run.

"DNA identified.

Species: Pinacosaurus.

A species from a planet called Earth lived in the Cretaceous period.

Diet: Herbivore.

Currently: Extinct," the device informs us as we leave the cave.

"It doesn't look extinct to me," Graiger comments, out of breath.

"I think the device doesn't adapt to the time and space we're in, like the locator," I say.

"Yes, but where do we go now? I've already turned on the beacon, but as you said, it might take a while for them to arrive," Graiger says.

"We can explore in the meantime. It's a new planet, with millions of species to catalog," I say, getting excited.

"But wouldn't that be dangerous? Wouldn't it be better to wait for them for those days?" Graiger questions, unsure.

"Didn't we want to be explorers and inventors? This is a good opportunity to exercise our first goal," I say, smiling.

As I say this, we hear a large explosion coming from somewhere in the forest. 'They don't look like meteors, and we didn't see any light coming from the sky. What could it be?'

"What would that be? Explosives in a prehistoric age?" Graiger asks, noticing the same thing as I did.

"I don't know, but wouldn't it be good to take a look?" I ask, excited. 'I always wanted to go on an adventure like in Doctor Who, and now I'm living one in Earth's prehistoric age, haha!'

"Let's go since you said it would be good to exercise our goals," Graiger responds, a little unsure about the decision. 'He's still a child by Time Lord standards, so he must have some fear like a child would.'

"Come on, Graiger," I say, pulling him toward the direction where we heard the explosion.

That's when we saw what looked like a Vortisaur flying away from the explosion. I pointed the identifier at it, and the device spoke:

"DNA identified.

Species: Pteranodon

A species from a planet called Earth lived in the Cretaceous period.

Diet: Piscivore

Currently: Extinct."

"Look, it has a different name than our Vortisaurs," I show Graiger as we walk toward the explosion site.

"Yes, but ours are much more beautiful. How did this planet let so many species go extinct?" Graiger comments, indignant.

'In Gallifrey, in over millions of years of our species' evolution, no species on the planet has even gone extinct. I guess it makes sense for him to feel indignant.' When we got near a hill leading to where the explosion came from, I said to Graiger, "It seems that it was an asteroid that wiped out most of the species on this planet."

"How do you know that?" Graiger asks, curious.

"I read it in a book about planets in the academy's library. I'll take you there when we get back. It only has information about extinction events that have happened over time on various planets in our galaxy. It's pretty cool to see," I say.

"Okay, I want to look at that book. It must be cool since you read it," Graiger says. 'It seems like he has a lot of confidence in me. A new feeling... Interesting. No, focus on what's happening,' I scold myself.

We started to go down a hill and were almost reaching the explosion site.

"This place is very far. It seems the explosion was strong for us to hear from where we were," Graiger comments, seeing that we walked for almost 20 minutes from the cave where we appeared.

"Yes, it was probably a volcano. It must be interesting to see these uncontrolled volcanoes, unlike in Gallifrey, where engineers control the volcanoes so as not to cause problems for people around," I say, excited about the idea.

When we got closer, I was paralyzed.

"What is this doing here? We're in the prehistoric era, they shouldn't even have a way to develop here. My father said they're a plague in the universe, trying to turn every one to be like them," Graiger says.

Upon hearing Graiger, I respond: "They probably evolved from them, as they're attacking this species," I say, pointing to the Silurians being attacked by Cyber-Silurians.

====================

Author's note: I know you didn't expect Silurians or Cybermen, but I saw on the Silurians' Wiki that at some point, a Cyberman turned a Silurian into a Cyber-Silurian, and they had a battle. So, I decided to write about it as a way to start a Traveler's adventure.
