Chapter 13 - Cooperation

Upon hearing this, the leader stops in his tracks. 'It seems he's interested.'

"So, your people fought against the Cybermen. We should analyze your brain further to gain technological advantages," the leader says with a smile.

'Seriously? Let's see what this chamber is like,' I think with some uncertainty. "Okay, I won't say anything more. And you, Ross, do you have anything to add to get us out of this mess?"

"Ross?" I called Graiger again, who seemed like he wasn't listening.

"Oh, that's me," Graiger says. "Yes, we can help in your battle if you set us free," he says quickly, agreeing with what I said.

"Guards, take them away. Don't waste more time. They must be spies," the leader says with annoyance.

"Stop, Vostraxio. Let me handle them," a woman says, entering through the door where we were supposed to go to the chambers.

"Lady Lastra, they might be Cybermen spies. We can't take that risk," the now-named Vostraxio says.

'What a terrible name. Who names their child Vostraxio?' I think.

"Leave them with me and my squad. We'll take the risks if anything happens," the woman says.

"Okay, Lady," Vostraxio nods, with some ill humor.

We are taken by a few women who appear right behind Lastra.

"Let's go," Lastra says with authority.

We start being escorted somewhere. 'Probably an interrogation room.'

As we're walking, I say, "So, that grumpy captain is of a lower rank than you?" I ask with curiosity.

Lastra glances at me before answering. "Yes, Vostraxio is a field commander, but I lead the entire operation in this region. And you are quite perceptive, boy."

"Thank you, I try to do my best," I say with a smile. "Now, what's going to happen to us? Vostraxio said he might study our brains, thinking we're spies. I'm not up for having my brain opened up by another species," I say with a shiver.

Lastra stops walking and turns to face me. "That will depend on how you behave. My instinct tells me you are not like the Cybermen, but I need to ensure you are not a threat to my people. And we will not study your brain; we will only do a scan of your cognitive abilities to make sure you are telling the truth and are intelligent."

Graiger finally seems to recover his voice, speaking cautiously, "We are not a threat. We want to help, as we said before. We are inventors, not warriors," he says firmly.

'Impressive, it seems he can stay calm under a lot of pressure,' I think, looking at Graiger.

Lastra raises an eyebrow, pondering. "Inventors, huh? Maybe we can use your skills, but first, I need to know if I can trust you."

She leads us to a large, dimly lit room with stone walls and equipment that I vaguely recognize from some of the technologies the Time Lords developed. 'Quite primitive compared to Time Lord technology, but it should serve them. Interesting, this must be how they developed their cryogenics, but compared to what I expected, it's quite disappointing.'

"This is our analysis room," Lastra explains, motioning for us to sit in two metal chairs in the center of the room. "We will conduct some tests to verify if you are being honest. And if you are, perhaps we can discuss an alliance."

"Right, let's get this over with since you need to look at my head," I say with some disinterest.

**POV - Lastra**

I watch as the two boys, supposedly Time Lords, are subjected to a security scan of their brains. 'They seem calm, especially the one called Braz. He seems disappointed about something,' I think, intrigued. 'Since he arrived, he hadn't shown fear, only nervousness when Vostraxio threatened to open their brains and study their memories,' I think, even more, intrigued.

'If they really are who they say they are, they could be a crucial advantage in the war against the Cybermen,' I think as the tests proceed.

"The results show that their neural frequencies are incredibly advanced, ma'am," one of my subordinates reports. "They have cognitive ability and memory far superior to the Silurian standard."

'This confirms my suspicions. They are indeed a powerful species and are geniuses as they claim to be. But the question remains: can we trust them?' I step forward and approach Braz.

"If you really are Time Lords, how do you behave in combat?" I ask, testing them.

Braz speaks first: "Our people currently prefer non-interference in wars," he says with a smile. "But, in the wars our people have fought, we won them all. Okay, our weapons became stagnant because there were no wars to fight."

'He seems to take everything that happens around him calmly and to be sarcastic about everything,' I think, intrigued by this boy who seems to be on vacation rather than in an interrogation.

The other boy, Ross, also speaks: "We prefer to avoid direct combat. Our people are known for our intelligence and ability to strategize." I look at him and nod.

Perhaps this is the key to turning the tide in our favor. "Very well. If you can prove your usefulness, you will be our ally. But if you betray us..." I let the threat hang in the air.

Braz says, "Don't worry, we'll only be here for a few days anyway. Our people should come in a few days."

'He doesn't take any threat seriously,' I think with dissatisfaction.

After the tests, we were escorted to a room where I saw several men in white lab coats.

When we arrive at the door, Lastra speaks with pride, "So you will see our best men when it comes to developing weapons."

When we enter, I see several people looking at us. Then one approaches Lastra and speaks:

"Lady Lastra, what brings you here?"

Lastra replies, pointing to us: "I came to introduce these two boys who say they can help with the Cybermen."

Upon introducing us, I say, "Well, I see you haven't made much progress, huh?"

"Lady Lastra, sorry, but don't you think they're very suspicious? And also, what have they developed that we can't?" the man in the lab coat questions.

"Their brainwaves have been studied, and their cognitive capacity is almost three times that of a Silurian, and they are volunteering. They said they need to wait a few days for their people to come pick them up," Lastra says.

"What! That's not possible; we've never heard of a race like that on our planet, not even the Sea Devils," the man says in astonishment.

"So, can we start working? If my friend and I combine our minds with your men, maybe we can develop a device that interferes with Cybermen's communications or something that nullifies their technology," I say excitedly. 'First time I should create technology from scratch, should be fun. Should I develop a cyber bomb instead?'

"Braz, you have that weird smile," Graiger says.

"Oh, sorry," I say sheepishly.

When I say this, Lastra questions us about something, "So boys, I forgot to ask your ages. How old are you two?"

"48," I say.

"48 too," Graiger says.

Upon hearing this, Lastra, the man in the lab coat, and everyone around us are wide-eyed and surprised.
