Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

New York. Rain fell from the sky, weaving through the city as if it were washing away the traces that humans made throughout the day.

For some, the rain was a blessing. For others, an inconvenience.

For me, it was a reminder. A reminder of the day I lost everything that ever mattered to me in this world.

My family, my love my everything...

The rain showed me that being good isn't really enough, it showed me that there's really nothing in this world worth of me, worth of my sweat... worth of my blood!

I tried to be a hero like he would have been. Tried to stay optimistic, like he always was...

But I CAN'T! I can't be like him. I can't be optimistic, and I can't be a hero—not when I couldn't even save the ones I loved most.

I'm sorry, Peter. I'm sorry I couldn't protect what you loved… and I'm sorry for what I'll do.

This world didn't deserve you, and it doesn't deserve me!

Never again, I say. Never again will anything or anyone take something from me!

With eyes as fierce as a bull's, I made my resolution.

I would become stronger—strong enough to protect everyone and everything that mattered to me.

If being a hero means sacrificing the ones I love for the so-called greater good, then I don't want to be a hero.

If being a hero means that at some point I'll need to sacrifice the ones I love for the so-called greater good again... Then I don't want to be a hero!

If protecting someone I care about means turning my back on the world and that makes me a villain… If that's the price to protect the ones I care, I'm willing to pay it.
