"You will never be good enough."
I have heard these words all my life. As required by the head branch, they must produce an hair to lead the clan.
I was the first born son of Samuel Karuta, the current head of the Karuta clan and I was next in line.
My training begun when I was only five years old. It was basic training of feeling the flow of Mana within your body.
Normally people would master this training at age 10, but being a Karuta, you had to master it at 5.
I could not do it, I mastered it at a later age of eight. Everyone else saw me as defective, and just like that I was separated from my family.
I was not suitable to become the next head of the clan, they had to pick someone else. They picked my little sister who was the second born of the main Karuta household.
She was more suitable, she managed to master how to feel her mana at age three by accident, without knowing herself.
Neither a prodigy nor the next head, I was of no use to my family and my clan and soon or later, they had to send me off toa magic high school.
Putting me on reserve hopping I would at least come back stronger and serve the clan.
...
"Before I leave can I say goodbye to Mari," I said on my way out the door. " If you miss the train, don't even think of coming back here," my mother toxically replied.
My name is Kelvin Karuta and that's my mom, she hates me the most. She was a gorgeous woman with black hair and golden yellow eyes. If she was not bitter to me, she would be the perfect woman.
I saw her reaction coming before I could even ask, I pushed a button on his suitcase and wheels popped out of the end and pulled the case along with me.
When out of the gate, I walked in the opposite direction of the train station. I had something left to do, saying goodbye to my childhood friend, Mari.
Down the street I walked past a gate that signaled another territory of a clan. The Karuta clan was responsible for leading the town, and they were other clans that had their own responsibilities in the town. They had territories where they operated in.
This system was put in place by the government to satisfy the Eight Master Clans of magic. These clans are also responsible for producing magic users called Dins to serve the country in many ways, examples defense, magic research.
I went down to the main house of the territory, the Aieno clan head house. knock knock, I knocked on the door. There was a short moment of silence before someone answered the door.
"Hello there Kelvin." A woman with brown long hair and purple eyes was standing there, holding the door open. " Hi Mrs. Aieno, I came here to say my goodbyes to Mari." She opened the door wider. "So today is the day."
Kelvin-I'm afraid so, they finally sent me off.
Mrs. Aieno- That is horrible, there's no way for you to stay.
Kelvin- Stay and do what, they said.
Mrs. Aieno- It's a shame, Mari's going to miss you.
Kelvin- Tell her I promise I'll come back.
Mrs. Aieno- Of curse you will, but unfortunately, she isn't here right now.
Kelvin- I see, then let her know when she comes back. Now excuse me, I have to catch the train.
Mrs. Aieno- Ok my boy, stay safe and good luck.
I waved goodbye to the house and ran off with my suitcase to the train station. "Is he gone," Mari asked. "Yes, indeed he has," Mrs. Aieno responded. But why does it have to be like this. Mari could not understand and begun to sob.
I managed to catch the bullet train waiting at the station. the doors begun to close and without a second thought, I passed through the remaining space of the door.
On the train I saw the town of Karuta pass by before my eyes, the town I grew up in, the town that had people who both loved him and hated him, the town I was supposed to lead and now it disappeared as the train went through the tunnel.
I closed my eyes and remembered all the memories I had of the place. I now knew if I had to come back, I had to come back stronger.
