So he aggressively slammed his door open, hitting one of the rats square in the face. The door, sporting Cor's incredible power for his level, actually stunned the rat and broke a but of his front teeth! This indicates that the rats are only 1st grade monsters. This is great news for now, even if he does not know yet what the situation is outside.
A first grade monster is the lowest grade of monster, almost as weak as normal animals. Normally, monsters of this grade had only evolved to become bigger, making them dangerous for normal humans.
Of course, while this meant that Cor was not commiting suicide by running out, it is still extremely dangerous for him.
But there is no time to think too deeply. The second rat already turned to lunge at Cor. To counter this Cor took a small step back into his room. And as the rat jumped at him...
SLAM
He slammed the door down on the ugly monster. He even put al his weight behind the pull and hit the rat in the sides, compressing its body in an awkward way. The rat screamed in pain as the cracks of breaking bones could be heard.
But Cor had no time to admire the results of his bold move. He kicked the door open again and while both rats where still somewhat stunned, he ran into the hallway, trying to get away as quickly and efficiently as possible.
But the view in the hallway did not spell anything good for Cor. Red lights and alarms where adding to the chaos of tens of rats now fighting a bitter battle with the students that have already decided to get out of their room. Cor recognizes none of the students in a meaningfull way however. Only from beating them maybe once or twice in the arena and seeing them around in class.
He starts running into the chaos. All the rats seem occupied with rooms and students currently so he hopes they will somewhat ignore him. The thought of helping the others never occured to him even once. He knew, these people where all hardwired to survive. In nature that does mean sticking together but in chaotic sutuations like these sticking together could possibly do harm as well. And even if that is not the case, Cor could see the panic in the ones fighting. These people would not help him back. Not likely enough to risk it at least.
Cor never really dreamt of being the hero anyway.
So he ran past the rats and the students. At first this did work but soon a rat turned around to lunge at him.
Cor saw this however, and unfortunately for the rat he had no time to think about conserving strength so out of instinct he struck the rat square in the face with the piece of bed as hard as he could.
The rat fell down, knocked out. It's times like these that Cor is happy with the heavy investments in his strength. Repeating this way of 'defence', Cor only had to endure one real bite before reaching the main lobby. The bite is nasty however, and would infect if nothing is done about it.
But before worrying about this, another problem showed itself in the main lobby.
