WREN BLINKS his eyes for the seventh time. He even pinched his cheeks hard enough to wake him up. Even if he's in a dream, everything still stays the same. He was still in an unfamiliar room inside an unfamiliar house, in the middle of an unfamiliar place, and in an unfamiliar space and time.
He was just inside his own room, holding a thick old book, and just had to flip the book's last page when everything turned black. When he opened his eyes again, the familiar background of his room was nowhere to be seen.
Thinking that he was having those realistic dreams once again, Wren calmly took in the new environment when he was attacked by a painful migraine. Although it couldn't be said to be a simple migraine, while he was trying to ease the pain, hundreds of memories that obviously weren't his were being poured into his brain, and it was too long before he felt it was him experiencing those scenes himself.
The pain was so great that he didn't know when he fell unconscious for the second time. Even when he was blacked out, he felt that his brain was still so busy processing the memories that when he woke up again, he still felt a little painful.
Looking at his own reflection in the mirror, Wren finally decided that this must be real. He really did reincarnate.
Since he couldn't wake up, if this is a dream, then this may be real. And since the body that was being reflected in the mirror was slightly different from his original body, as well as those memories he gathered, he might have reincarnated into a body that had the same name and slightly the same features as him.
This body was also named Wren Adams. He was originally thirty-two but with his new body, he regressed when he was twenty years old. Just like himself, this person will also turn twenty-one five months from now. They even have the same birthday!
Both of them were also orphans, although he became an orphan at the age of ten because his parents died in an accident. Not only that but before his parents died, he was even left with enough money that his parents, who were both researchers, had saved for his future. He didn't even need to find a stable job since he could use all the saved money until his death.
Unfortunately, he wasn't able to use up all the money before he died. But he was still able to do what he wanted, such as stay at home and do nothing but his hobbies.
The original was more unfortunate since he didn't know who his parents were as he grew up in an orphanage. The orphanage was not bad compared to the original, but because it wasn't a prosperous orphanage, he still had a hard time living for the whole eighteen years that he stayed there.
Despite his good looks since he was a kid because the orphanage was a small one with only a low priestess who loved children as the owner, there weren't any sponsors or any couples that were willing to adopt.
So at the young age of eight, the original was already knows how to work himself. From helping out in the orphanage, taking care of the young ones, and assisting in cleaning and cooking, this very obedient and hardworking Wren was able to live a slightly better life than most of the orphans.
Then, at the age of ten, the orphan Wren started to earn money by taking odd jobs to help provide food for the orphanage. Even when he was allowed to leave the orphanage, since he was considered a legal adult at the age of eighteen, he was still given dividends of his monthly salary back to the orphanage.
This just shows how he cares about the children in the orphanage. And probably this also shows his gratitude to the people in the orphanage.
Wren didn't want to compare but he still wanted to thank his parents; despite being an orphan, because of them, he lived a better life than the original, who grew up working for his and other people's living. This was also the reason that, at the original's young age, the body that he neglected after taking hard exercise and diets for a whole year when he was thirty was already carefully maintained by the original at the age of twenty.
For a twenty-or-so-young man, his body is beyond his expectations. This body, which was taller than him, fitter than him, and more handsome than him—Wren is very dejected.
If not for the fact that this perfect body is now his, he might have been forced to break it in jealousy.
"It was just because I was a little lazy that time. If not, I may have accomplished the same body. So there's no need to be jealous now," Wren muttered, brainwashing himself.
Looking at his new face's reflection in the mirror, Wren tried to find fault. Honestly speaking, Wren and the original had the same face when he was the same age as the original.
Slightly long and curly strands of dark brown hair and dark brown eyes. There's also that small, straight nose and bow-shaped lips, all in a perfectly angular face. Looking at it now, the original only looks a little different because he has a more mature and manly look than Wren when he was the same age.
Now, thinking that it was all because the original had it hard at a young age that he was able to get this shape.
"Since this body of yours is now mine, don't worry, little Wren. I will definitely take care of it and maintain your hard work."
Feeling reassured, Wren nodded his head before turning away from the mirror with a satisfied smile. He walks back to the bed. He still has the original's memory to sort out after all.
You might find it suspicious that Wren was too quick to accept all these things regarding reincarnation. Maybe it was because of how Wren lived his life in his own world that he could easily adjust himself.
Growing up alone, Wren never let himself suffer from any hardships or negative thoughts and emotions. As young as he is, he already understands the importance of living your life without regret. That's why, instead of letting himself mourn the deaths of his parents, he decided to accept reality and live his life according to how it could make him feel happy and content.
And what was that, aside from his addiction to exploration and research about myths, tales, and folklore like his parents did?
When his parents were still alive, he was already interested in mythology and everything about it. At first, it was only because his mother always used the stories about those legendary creatures to lure him to sleep.
But when he learned that both his parents were not only simple researchers of myths and folklore but also an
Maybe that curiosity was inherited from them; even until his parents died from exploring a newly discovered ancient place in Israel, Wren decided to continue what his parents had started.
Using the savings left for him by his parents, Wren started joining a group of field researchers and explorers when they discovered some historical and ancient places. Of course, before he joined, he would at least study the culture and history of that place in order to avoid what happened to his parents.
And in his thirty years of living, he had made it to more than forty countries, exploring those undiscovered ancient places and discovering many ancient materials that were said to be related to the country's myths and legends.
From Greek mythology, Roman mythology, Norse mythology, Chinese mythology, Japanese mythology, and even the myth of those small countries from Southeast Asia, he didn't miss any.
After finishing a study about a certain country's myths and legends, he would move to another one, where he was able to finish all myths and folklore by region at the age of twenty-nine.
He then proceeded with his study of the religious myths, starting with the least popular. He was already done reading a holy book that his parents left before they died on their expedition to the undiscovered ancient place when he also miraculously disappeared from Earth and reappeared again on the same planet a millennium later.
So, despite how short he lived, learning all those myths and tales made him feel like he was a very experienced man. And this reincarnation sort of thing is no longer shocking to him.
That's why Wren calmly processed the original's memories in order for him to have a grasp of his current situation, aside from the fact that he reincarnated. And as he goes along with the memories, the more Wren learns about his new identity and the world he will be living in.
And the more he learned about this world, the clearer the shock and excitement appeared on his handsome face.
