Chapter 6 - 6th: Mapping

WREN LOOKED at his reflection in the mirror for the last time. Since he decided to do one of his daily quests, he couldn't remain locked up in his small apartment. With all of his quests, it was obvious that the system didn't want him to become a lazy bum.

Right now, after taking a clean and comfortable bath and taking away all the dirty feeling surrounding his body, Wren chose something simple out of the original's old sets of clothes. In the end, he decided to wear ripped jeans and a plain white shirt, topped with a black hooded jacket.

When he looked for shoes to pair up with his outfit, what welcomed him was an old pair of black and white sneakers that Wren couldn't look at straight. He really feels pity for the hard life of the original. But thinking that it'd be his time to experience it, Wren couldn't accept it and let it continue. He must quickly change it!

That was enough to encourage him to wear the overworn sneakers and complete one of his quests. That was to register as a hunter so that he could enter the dungeon tower. How can he accomplish the rest of the quests if he won't be allowed to enter the dungeon tower?

With a last cheer for himself, Wren takes a hold of the door knob and opens the door. The silence that his small apartment provided him when he was transmigrated to this place is now broken.

The apartment was built the same way as those common apartments in the anime that he once saw on his friend's children's tablets. A two-story building with four to five small apartments on each floor.

This apartment was situated in the busiest city of Orientale, the city of Arandas. Arandas is Orientale's capital city and the tallest dungeon tower in Orientale is located there. It is natural for this city to be the busiest, even as early as eight in the morning.

The original's only luck was probably how he was able to get this apartment with a lower rental fee. It was because aside that this apartment is situated in a productive city where many opportunities could be found, but this small apartment was also better than the biggest apartment in the rural area.

Not only was it clean and complete with personal necessities such as its own bathroom and kitchen, but most of the essential machines and utensils were already provided. What you only needed to buy and bring were clothes and your own food supplies.

And believe it or not, the original only needs to pay ten thousand dollars monthly for the rent. Let's not talk about water and electricity bills, since there's no need for them in this world. With how magic and powers have become the norm here, what would be the use of those windmills and dams before?

"How convenient!" Wren exclaimed to himself as he closed his apartment's door.

The sound of the automatic lock activating was heard. Another surprising thing that Wren wanted to applaud.

Despite how ordinary this version of Earth had become, the people still made a technology that was compatible with making the lives of everyone more convenient without totally depending on the advancement of these technologies.

You may find some robotic figures doing errands for their masters, skyscrapers towering from here and there, complicated highways with flying cars and fast-traveling trains in the road, but you can still feel that heartwarming feeling of being close at home.

Probably because of what advanced technology had brought into the world, humans were now being careful when using this advanced technology. They will make sure that it will advance to the better use of the people, but not so much that it will bring chaos once overdue.

"Oh, Wren boy! You finally came home. Have you eaten? We still have some leftover food from last night if you haven't. You wouldn't mind that, right?"

Wren was on his way to enter the elevator to come down when he heard the unfamiliar yet familiar voice of an old lady. When he looked back, he saw a fifty-year-old lady in an old-fashioned maternity dress smiling at him.

Retrieving a memory from the original's memories, he knew who this old lady was. This is Mrs. Castro, the fifty-nine-year-old mother of the boss who owns the apartment. This boss was also the same man who let him rent the only vacant apartment. While it was this old lady who pitied him and let the original rent half of the original rental fee in exchange for the original would help her when needed.

Usually, Mrs. Castro would ask the original to help in cleaning the building, lifting some big items, or assisting anyone who would move in or out of the apartment. Sometimes, when the original would not have enough money when the due date for paying for the rental came, Mrs. Castro would let him pay when he had the money.

She would even give him leftover or extra food if he was short on money. And digging deeper into the original's memories, Wren also found out that some of his new-looking clothes, as well as the only sneakers he is wearing, were given to him by this old woman with the excuse that they were all his son's old clothes.

With those good memories from the kind old lady, Wren also flashed a smile of surprise. But Wren was so oblivious to it that he even walked towards the old woman, taking the heavy bag she was holding with both her hands.

"Good morning, Mrs. Castro. Let me take this bag. Where are you taking it?" he asked as he once again clicked for the elevator.

Wren was about to look at the old lady again to motion for her to enter the lift first when he was suddenly attacked by her rough but warm hands. He could only dumbfoundedly stare at the old lady as she kept touching him on his cheeks, forehead, and even his neck.

"Did you finally fall for me, Mrs. Castro? Are you willing to move on from Mr. Castro?" he spoke the usual joke that the original spouted to Mrs. Castro.

And as expected, those rough hands lost their warmth as they were used to hitting him hard on his shoulder. Wren can only laugh it lightly as he slyly entered the lift to escape and also to prevent the lift from closing again.

"This little bastard! You're not even as handsome as my son; what more with my late husband, huh?" Mrs. Castro angrily said, but not really that angry.

She finally followed Wren inside the lift and it quickly closed. Only a second after that, the elevator door once again opened, showing that they were really on the first floor. Wren decided to investigate it next time, as he still had something good to do.

"Just help me bring it to the car, boy. By the way, where are you going this early in the morning?" Mrs. Castro asked after pointing in the direction where his manually operated car was parked.

Mrs. Castro was not being neglected by her only son; he wasn't willing to buy her a flying car that could be automatically driven. It was because Mrs. Castro didn't like those types of cars.

He's not being nosy or trying to gossip but it was because the memory of that from the original naturally popped out, making Wren aware of how Mrs. Castro's husband died inside a flying car after accidentally getting included in a bombing case from a terrorist attack.

"I will get myself registered to the hunter association as a hunter," Wren answered back, looking back at her with his perverted grin.

Mrs. Castro ignored that as she looked surprised at Wren. "What? Did you successfully awaken a system?"

Wren giddily laughed and nodded. "Fortunately, I didn't completely give up. Right, Mrs. Castro?"

Although Wren didn't think about that for the original since he knew well how the original obviously gave up on believing that he'd one day awaken. This fortunate thing only happened because Wren took over the body.

"Hahaha! That's good, boy! Then we won't be worrying about you now. You know, your brother was getting worried about you when you started to take many side jobs," Mrs. Castro said. She was obviously happy for Wren as well. "Then quickly put that on the car. I have to come home to share the good news with your brother. Oh, do you want a lift?"

Wren let himself be pushed by the old lady. When they stop in front of a vintage compact pickup truck—yes, it is called a vintage because, in this era, the design of land cars was more advanced yet for humans who already knew about flying cars, a land car was the same as old vintage cars.

And in this era, there were still those auto manufacturers who manufactured these types of vintage land cars. But their prices were the same as those of popular branded flying cars, just because of their vintage class. Maybe for these developers, they want the humans to not forget their roots so they made sure to still retain these type of mobile cars.

"See? Brother George wasn't cheap towards his mother," Wren familiarly commented in his head with envy.

"There you go. No need to give me a lift or people might think that I have a sugar mommy—ack!" Wren covered his shoulder as he lightly laughed.

It really seemed fun to tease the kind old lady, like the original finds it funny to tease her.

"You damn brat. You really like to tease this old lady. Luckily for you, you are also as handsome as my son or I'll kick you out!" Mrs. Castro harrumphs in fake anger. "And don't go straight to the association. Make sure to go to the temple to offer something to the gods who blessed you this time. I heard that the Holy Priest of Emantla had purposely come to our country's temple for something. It'll be lucky for you if you have been spotted by the central's holy priest."

When the world was trying to rise again after the second destruction, which was also the start of human evolution from having god systems, the world became divided into five parts, which were now called countries instead of continents.

The country where the original was born was called Orientale, as most of the countries from Asia and the East were now living on this one big continent. Although Orientale was derived from the East, the continent was actually located in the northern part of the Earth, which Wren finds ironic.

The continent or the country that was now on the east was called Vestern—which, from the name itself, were the Western countries before. Vestern was smaller than Orientale, but it was the third largest country on Earth, full of people with western features such as blonde hair and blue eyes.

The Nortelge was a country derived from the North. Although they are technically located in the south. This country was as big as Vestern. But the population was smaller, so it was ranked fourth as the largest country.

As for the smallest country, it was the country of Del Sur, which was the South before. Not only was it a small in land mass but the population was also smaller compared to Nortelge. In terms of technological advancement, Del Sur was the last in rank because people here focused on farming so despite the small quality of everything, Del Sur was the wealthiest in terms of products that all the other countries usually had to export from here.

Lastly on the list was the country mentioned by Mrs. Castro. Emantla, which was the biggest continent in the middle of the four mentioned countries, Emantla was also called the central one because of this.

Emantla became the number one in terms of largest both in land mass as well as population since mixtures of people from the aforementioned countries also live in this big country. Most of the popular people, groups, and celebrities live in this country. One of them was the holy priest that Mrs. Castro mentioned.

Even though the original was not familiar with this so-called holy priest. It was still a popular name the same as idols and artists. So Wren didn't dwell on it and just thought about what he had to do first. If he will directly register with the hunter association or if he will go to the temple first, as Mrs. Castro suggested.

"How can I be luc—" Wren cut off himself. "Never mind. I'll just go to the temple first," he quickly added before waving his hand towards Mrs. Castro.

"I'll just see it for myself when I get there. What prophetic god did this holy priest have that he became so popular," he muttered to himself as he left.
