Chapter 9 - 8th: Task Rewards [Part 1]

WREN SUBCONSCIOUSLY released a sigh of relief. He had forgotten about this task since he had entered the temple for different reasons that he didn't want to remember.

He had just taken five short steps to escape from Mrs. Castro, who seemed intent on driving him to his destination when a sound of notification appeared in his head. He didn't even need to ask any questions, as a notification interface appeared before him.

[A new task appeared.]

Wren only stopped his steps for a second and quickly continued taking his steps. He even dared to say his goodbyes to Mrs. Castro as his walking phase turned into a sprint and then it became running.

While doing so, he also opened the system notification, which, as stated above, was there, but the task status was still incomplete.

He was already reminded that he can't deny or reject any quest, task, or mission, as it would automatically give him penalties. So of course, Wren would do the given task since registering can be done with a longer time limit, unlike the task, which had a one-hour time limit.

Wren might not have had a good experience doing this task, but the rewards he received after completing it made it all worth it.

Another holographic screen appeared, which was another system notification. But unlike the other one, this one was more pleasing to his eyes.

[Task completed. Since this was the host's first task, an additional reward/s will be given for a job well done. Do you want to open the task now?]

Below the task reminder are two choices that allow Wren to open the rewards now or later.

But who is he if he skips this? Without hesitation or second thoughts, Wren clicked 'Yes' and the screen displayed changed.

Letting himself be dragged by Hunin, Wren decided to ignore the former and used the opening of his rewards to make him forget about this guy.

"Jackpot!" Wren excitedly exclaimed.

"What? You want to make me give you the right set of numbers to win a jackpot in the lottery?" Hunin asked in surprise.

He was telling Wren about all his experiences in giving prophecies and then he also kindly asked him if he wanted to ask for a prophecy, and he suddenly blurted out that 'jackpot' word. And in an excited way at that. Of course, it would be normal for Hunin to react like that.

"No need. I already had more than that!" Wren answered with a sheepish grin and ignored Hunin once again.

His eyes and mind focused on the system panel as he opened his stats profile. And it made him a little more happy to see the added number in all his stats.

Wren was shocked when he saw that his mana and health points had also increased. But he quickly distributed it to the added point of his health and intelligence.

"So does it mean that one point is equivalent to one hundred for health and ten points for mana?" Wren asks himself in his head.

Well, he will find it out after distributing all his ten ability points.

To test it out, Wren contemplated for a bit. Then he decided to give five points to his intelligence and then the other five to his health and after that, he looked at his profile stats once again.

"That's better," Wren muttered with a smile.

"Really?" Hunin once again answered Wren, who was actually talking to himself but had accidentally spoken it out, enough for him to hear.

Hunin was having his time retelling his stories and adventures when he suddenly remembered something about him visiting a friend first who was also going to the association to do some reporting. They will be on the way to the friend's house and they also had the same itinerary so he wanted to ask Wren's permission despite the flying can being his.

That pulled Wren back from his own world and that's only when he remembered the situation. He looked around and was surprised when he saw that he was in a different environment now.

A few moments ago, he was still getting dragged by Hunin and now he was already sitting on a chair in a moving ride. Wren wanted to ask how he got there but the timing was too late; he could only let the matter go.

What he did was remember what Hunin was talking about. Unfortunately, he couldn't remember one since he was really busy with his tasks and rewards. He might have a little bit of suspicion about what he might be talking about but there is an inkling in him that once he asks the other to repeat his words, he will regret it.

And since he had a lot of trust in his intuition, he firmly closed his mouth, not to ask and just nodded his head. He could also feel that the other couldn't do anything bad to him so whatever it was, it wouldn't endanger him.

Since he wanted to focus more on looking at his rewards, he might as well use the time to do that rather than interact with this guy, who would merely annoy him in the long run.

So Wren did what he told him. He looked away after nodding and looked out of the scenery. As for how exciting it was to see him float on a ride, it wasn't as exciting as unwrapping your rewards.

"Seeing these additional points was really pleasing to my eyes. Although it would be better if there was also an additional number on my level, how many tasks should I complete to level up?"

He didn't dwell deeper on that thought and instead, he stared at the added feature on the lower part of his system profile. Using his mind, Wren clicks to open the spin wheel first and a holographic panel appears before his eyes.

——

Free summon spin wheel (x1)

Description: It is the wheel of fated summons that is full of powerful beings that can be your summons with a single spin. The contents of the spin wheel will be decided by your rank. The higher your rank, the more powerful the choices.

Caution: Once you click this, you can no longer return it to the system. You can only use this, or this chance will disappear once you deny using it after it is open.

——

A frown appeared on his face. What a scam! How can he use it now when he knows that he has to have a higher rank to have better choices? And look at that caution. Does that mean he only has one chance now and that is to waste this on a beast summon?

But it's not like he has a choice now. After all, wasting it on a summoned beast is better than wasting the chance to acquire a summon now. And Wren was sure that, whether what he could get was a list of beast class summons, he was sure it'd be the best of all.

So, Wren clicked on the word with a 'spin now' and an individual interface showing a wheel that was divided into thousands or probably hundreds and thousands of slots. Each slot has the names of familiar beasts from different mythologies, folklore, and fairy tales from different countries, organized by their class and type.

Wren could even read the names of powerful beasts that he had once thought of as legends but now he was given a chance to see one for real. This made his excitement return, as he decided to spin it with his hand rather than spin it manually by clicking the button below.

"What are you doing?" Hunin asked while looking weirdly at Wren.

He was just a few feet away from Wren as he was asking him if he would be coming down with him or if it was only him who would fetch his friend but then Wren suddenly stood up. Then he raised both his hands in the air and with full force, he acted like he pulled something big into a downward position that ended with an eighty-degree bow.

Wren quickly stood properly. He cleared his throat as he tried to create an excuse to hide his embarrassment.

"It was one of my very own backstretches. I do that every time I feel my back in pain and it quickly eases the muscles on my back like magic."

Hunin obviously didn't believe his excuse. Even he himself. With that excuse, he would just think that if the person who said that was another person, he would think of them as crazy or a lunatic.

Anyway, Wren didn't mind clearing his identity in front of this guy. He doesn't plan to maintain consistent communication with him, especially not to form any close bonds.

Hunin also cleared his throat and repeated his question. "Okay, if you say so. But answer my question: Would you love to come with—"

"No thanks," Wren ruthlessly denied.

Hunin pouted but did not force it anymore. He just nodded and walked to his flying car's door, which had been open for a while now. The moment Hunin turned his back, Wren quickly sat up again and looked at the slowing rotation of the wheel.

He intently stared at it as he could see powerful names of beasts getting passed by until the wheel totally stopped rotating and pointed to another beast name. Wren almost shouted in surprise when a new system panel appeared, overlapping with the one that had the spin wheel.

[Congratulations! You have acquired the Amarok Wolf! You can now see this beast inside your summon inventory.]

TING!

And another system notification appeared before him, overlapping the last system panel.

[Congratulations! Your weekly quest (1) has been completed! Your rewards will be automatically added to your stats.]
