Synopsis
Seconds after Alex set a record in his favorite game, aliens invaded the Earth. With chaos all around him, Alex struggles and fails to survive in an alien infested world. Apparently, being a world famous speed runner for the game Toilet Man doesn't teach you survival skills. Alex's soul is transported to an amphitheater in the heavens, wearing god awful clothes the gods found for him in the lost and found. He doesn't wear pink bunny slippers! He doesn't wear slippers at all, he insists. Hermes makes fun of his outfit, but tells him the gods are powering up mortals to fight the alien invasion. Alex strikes a bargain with Ludos, the goddess of games, who insists she is not a loli, to be her champion in exchange for infinite growth potential and the opportunity to be the real life rpg character he always wanted to be. Alex chooses Psion as his character class. Now he must level up his psionic powers from noob status, if he wants to ever play video games again. High stakes! ----------------------------------------------------- If you like comedy or action, you will probably like this. This story has a high focus on both. Here are some out of context quotes for you: "We're in a business relationship. We should keep it professional. What do they say? Never put your foot where your mouth is. Wait, never put your mouth on your business. That's not it. Never…" --Alex "Wait, does that mean you get each other pregnant and have each other's babies? I feel like my brain is exploding." --Alex "You may have got me this time, kid, but mark my words: next time, the only thing left of you will be your boots...because everything else will be all blown up and stuff. Because my bullets are explosive. They make things blow up." --Jebediah "Wait, your name is person-man-guy?" --Alex "Smiles and giggles, hugs and knives! Purple Platypuses will take your lives!" --gang door password "I don't want you behind me. I don't like you like that" --Alex "Uh, when you're done smashing your tits into his face, could you come gather with the rest of us?" --Hermes ------------------------------------------------- There is also a discord if you like talking and stuff: https://discord.gg/redmarsh

Chapter 1 - Death Is Just The Beginning

When Aliens invaded the Earth, Alex was making world history in a video game. He had fought his way through a horde of zombies and skeletons to the undead dragon necromancer, Mortuus.

Alex used a combination of slowing, debuffing, and turn skipping spells to stall out the dragon while he slowly chipped away at its health. It would still get hits in, but they were just weakened enough to allow Alex to reduce Mortuus's health down to zero just as Mortuus had reduced his health down to one hit point.

Upon defeat, the skeletal dragon collapsed into a massive pile of dusty bones and a message appeared on Alex's screen along with fireworks and fanfare.

[Congratulations! You have defeated the final boss, Mortuus! You are the first player to beat the game on Hell mode! Your name will be added to the credits of the game]

The credits rolled with Alex's full name listed at the top. Alex got up from his chair and pumped his fist.

"Hell yeah! Suck on that, Dan! You said it couldn't be done. Well, I did it!"

His comments and record-breaking victory were interrupted by a sound like paper tearing, but infinitely louder. Before he could process the noise, something smashed through Alex's bedroom window and slammed into his computer screen, obliterating it.

"WTF?" Alex said.

The object oozed along the floor towards him. Its body was like transparent slime with eyes attached to eyestalks and unfamiliar organs floating inside of it. It opened a mouth filled with razor-sharp teeth and latched onto Alex's shoe.

Some of the teeth pierced through his shoe and into his foot. Alex screamed in terror and ripped his shoe off, throwing it and the creature to the other side of his room. Blood pooled around his foot.

Alex jumped up onto the bed, scanning the floor for the hideous creature. An explosion rocked his dorm building and the external wall of his bedroom fell away. The floor beneath him tilted down, and Alex lost his balance, tumbling out of the third-floor dorm room.

Alex landed on his back, impacting against a large slab of concrete. After he heard something break, he couldn't feel his legs anymore. He reached around for something to grab, his hands landing on a piece of rebar sticking out of the concrete.

Pulling on the rebar, Alex turned himself over onto his stomach and looked at the chaos unfolding around him. Similar monsters to the one that bit his foot were chasing after people on the street, only these ones were three meters tall.

Strange smooth aircrafts shot across the sky, making the paper tearing sound that he'd heard before when he was in his room. Purple and blue bulging hovercrafts roamed the ground.

A campus security guard ran away from one of these creatures until a translucent tentacle shot out of it, tripping him. His gun skidded across the ground, stopping over a meter away from Alex.

The monster dragged the security guard across the ground towards it. It lifted him into the air and chomped off his head. Alex could see the head floating inside its slimy, translucent body, slowly dissolving.

Dropping the body, its eyes shifted to focus on Alex. It slowly began oozing its way over to him.

"Shit, shit, SHIT!!!" Alex yelled.

Reaching for the gun, his hands came up short by a couple feet at least. Unable to use his legs, Alex hauled his body over the concrete and glass littered ground using his arms and elbows.

The glass cut and stabbed his skin, and the concrete scraped his chest, but he didn't stop. He couldn't. Not if he ever wanted to play video games again.

His hand closed around the gun. He checked that the safety was off and rolled over onto his back. With both hands on the gun, he aimed it at the monster and fired off three shots in quick succession.

They stuck into the target but it didn't stop its slow crawl towards him. Alex decided to aim more carefully this time. Maybe if he hit the internal organs he could see floating in its body, he could kill it.

Carefully firing off one shot at a time, Alex understood why the security guard had been running. He must have tried to shoot it at first, but realized it was futile.

The slime it was made of was thick enough to stop the bullets well before they reached the monster's internal organs. Not giving up yet, Alex rolled over and tried to crawl away.

To his surprise, he seemed to be putting distance between him and the monster, but just like with the security guard, a tentacle shot out and grabbed his ankle. The monster pulled him close and rolled him over.

Staring up at its ugly face, Alex felt something probing his mind. It was the monster's thoughts. It was telepathically projecting them to him.

He could feel its hatred and disgust, and its desire to rip him limb from limb, but it settled on something much more unpleasant. A blade formed at the end of the tentacle and shot out, stabbing Alex in the throat.

Alex tried to breathe but blood poured into his lungs. The monster wanted to watch him drown on his own blood. Alex couldn't get air no matter how hard he tried. His vision slowly dimmed until everything went black.

For a moment, he could feel himself floating in a vast emptiness, with nothing around him except nothing…ness. He didn't feel like he had a body anymore. He just existed. A floating soul.

Then something happened. A portal filled with bright light opened near him and started sucking him in. He tried to resist, but couldn't. His soul had no power to move or interact with the space around him.

He was promptly sucked into the hole and popped out the other side. A bright light filled his vision, and when it cleared, he was in a vast amphitheater. A white light seemed to come from everywhere and nowhere.
