Chapter 9 - Running A 10K

Su Lie smiled he hadn't really done all that bad.

He noticed that the other participants packed their fist with Qi to ensure that they got a good one in, but he didn't use Qi.

The expression on everyone's face when he scored nine hundred was worth it. He had to bite his lips hard to keep a straight face so he wouldn't laugh out loud.

He had seen where Jiang Mei was earlier on and went to meet her, it was the deciding point on whether he would be able to complete the mission so he had to do this wisely.

"You better not get in my way." A certain dark-red haired man said to him.

'Ehh, what's that?' Su Lie wondered.

'I had just mistakenly looked at him and he starts acting like he is the main villain of an anime. Does he think everyone is that beta?'

Shaking his head at this poor guy's antics he walked over to Jiang Mei.

Suddenly, his brain stopped working well. Was it because he was in the sights of a pretty girl? Is it because she wasn't as flat as a billboard? Or was it because he was generally bad at starting conversations?

"Jiang Mei, how was you- what was your hitting power?" He stammered.

"900Kg." She replied.

'Ah, this is awkward. I don't have anything to talk about.'

He sighed, just willing to go along with the flow.

'Ahh, just wing it.'

"How did you manage to hit that hard?"

'Thank Buddha, I didn't want to resort to bragging about myself.'

"I hit as hard as you, we probably did it the same way."

"You didn't use Qi, you were the only one in this whole group that used pure physical power to hit the rock."

"Nah, I focused my Qi on my legs. I thought that I would be able to hit harder If I had a bit of momentum."

"Ohh, that makes sense." She admitted.

Suddenly, a young man in dark green robes came forward.

"Follow me for your next test." He said as he began walking.

His walking pace was incredible, moving at 10 km showed that he had reached the third mortal stage of cultivation an impressive feat for someone his age.

Everyone had to run to keep up with the pace the man moved, he walked quickly to the other room leaving the young adults to sort out how they'll follow him.

The third room was better than its former, it had no furniture however, 50 meters after the entrance to the room there was a starting line spanning to 10 km.

Su Lie already had an epiphany of what they were about to do, it was what a certain bald hero did everyday for 3 years until he became the strongest lifeform.

"You are expected to pass this stage in 20 minutes if your punching strength was in 400 kg, those who got lower than 400 kg are expected to pass in 30 minutes." The man explained.

His words confused the young people in the vicinity, why would those that failed the last one be expected to get lower than those who scored higher?

Even someone with an intelligence of 15 wouldn't be able to solve this, the problem solving capability of someone depended on this stat.

But Su Lie was able to determine the reason for this despite an intelligence of 9, not because he was some genius in disguise, but because the anime and novels he had watched in his last life gave him knowledge on this kinds of situation.

The lower you score the lower your rank in the guild.

That was the logic behind this crazy reasoning.

[Host has received a mission. Does Host accept? Y/N]

Su Lie shocked that he had received a mission so suddenly looked at it for a second, but pressed yes immediately.

[An expert must be the best out of everyone. Prove that you are an above average cultivator by performing better than everyone in this test.

Rewards: + 1 Charisma

Failure: None]

Su Lie grinned, he would surely do the best out of everyone, after all his affinity would help him. + 1 Charisma was a good gift to him because of the fact it would affect his leadership skills.

He could already imagine himself commanding the group of the greatest fighters this town has to victory and becoming a leader.

The man selected 10 people out of the 50 people that were there and went towards the starting line, among the ten people 4 had gotten below 400 kg so they could finish in 30 minutes.

"Go!" The man shouted.

Everyone was dazed for a second, how could this man just say go without making sure everyone was prepared for what was about to happen.

"Time is ticking." He said in a voice that only the participants could hear.

In a flash everyone participating in the race bolted, their minds hadn't comprehended what was going on but their body was moving.

The man in green robes pulled out a talisman, it was one of the everyday use talismans that could be used even by non-cultivators.

It could be used for a variety of things but he specifically used it to count down from 30 minutes as soon as he said go.

The poor souls had already wasted 10 seconds from their original time before they ran, apparently the way they moved showed that they planned to complete it within 20 minutes. They ran with no regard for conserving their energy, just trying to complete it in the lowest time possible.

People resulted to using their Qi to speed up, willing it into their legs causing their speed to go up to 20 kmph, but unfortunately 20kmph meant that they would finish this in exactly 30 minutes. A luxury they did not have due to the fact that their speed was fluctuating and they had started 10 seconds late.

"Agghh!" Someone screamed.

His muscles gained a slight increase as he sped up for the third time, he was pushing his body beyond its limits for the third time in the last 10 minutes and the result was terrible because...

His limits were at the beginning!

His body spurted blood as he sped past his competition at the rate he was going he would finish in 17 minutes!

His muscles suddenly began growing abnormally, the spiritual energy in his radius became impure but he continued running.

"J-jus-ust on-e..."

He once again increased his speed, moving at 30 kmph but his body didn't seem like it was agreeing with him as his leg muscles decreased instantaneously, going back to their base.

Blood was sprayed all over the track as he continued still continued, the only thing carrying him was his willpower, it seemed to be at 15.

"THERE!!!" He shouted.

He collapsed on the ground as he reached his mark, the other people were still far behind him and he had managed to finish in just 17 minutes despite the fact that his punching power was at 300 +kg!

The 17 year old teen's eyes went inside out as he passed out, the result of trying to escape his limits for a while evident on his entire being as he spontaneously vomited blood from his mouth while it leaked from his body.

His legs sported various wounds while the track he ran on reeked of blood and impure spiritual energy.

"Get him to the medic." The man ordered seemingly no one.

By now the fellow runners had finished, crazy how the poor boy sacrificed his body and blood just for at most 6 extra minutes.

People in black clothes rushed to the floor and took the poor boy to the guild's doctor.

The green-robed man then called ten more people to run, unlike last time the people did not risk their life by trying to surpass their limits.

They could tell that they would end up like the boy who was leaking blood and prepared themselves by willing Qi into their body.

The next races ended with at least one person failing to pass.

Somehow the man in the dark green robe decided that him, Jiang Mei and mysterious dark-red haired kid should compete together.

Crazy Man!

He called the ten of them and arranged them on their own lane, like normal races you weren't allowed to leave your lane or you'd be disqualified.

Unfortunately for Su Lie he was put in the lane where the 17 year old boy left his blood and distorted spiritual energy.

This would disrupt not only his concentration but his Qi when he was moving.

The dark-red haired young man looked at him and declaring a silent challenge between them.

"Oh sh*t, here we go." Su Lie muttered.

The stakes had just been raised.

Bragging rights were on this race!
