There was this feeling in my gut that I shouldn't go to school today. I didn't belong to Abracadabra Middle School. But as my parents forced me to go, I had no choice. I was used to feeling like an outsider. I know making friends is difficult. Walking through the foggy hallways of the school, with my parents, they led me to the principal's office. The lights were dim and flickering on and off and the lockers looked like coffins! I couldn't imagine it creepier.
Entering the office of Mr. Shine, he appeared behind the door. The principal seemed like a big, friendly man in a business suit and matching tie with black sneakers. He had a wide grin on his face, and he seemed strangely pale from the lack of sun. "So glad you're here!" Mr. Shine announced, happily. The man grabbed hold of me and pulled inside his office and slammed the door.
Mom and Dad tried to follow after me, but Mr. Shine locked the office door. He stuck out his tongue at him. I turned back to look at my parents, who weren't there anymore behind the glass window. I whirled around and Mr. Shine appeared in front of me, still grinning. Handing me a glass of dark red liquid in a bottle, he handed it to me.
I looked at it confusingly. "You need your strength, my boy!" he said, excitedly. "Drink," he said. I looked into the silver bottle, and gulped. It was a thick, juicy red the color of blood. I carefully took the mug and sniffed it. It smelled like something foul. I brought the mug slowly to my lips. Suddenly, my eyes started to glow and felt very queasy.
"I can't...!" my voice trailed off. I almost puked! I handed the mug back to Mr. Shine. The principal took a seat in his big, black, leather rolling chair. I sat the silver bottle on a coaster at his brown desk. I smiled back at him. "What's going on here?" I asked, nervously. "Doesn't seem fun here," I said, taking a seat in front of his desk.
Mr. Shine laughed. "You'll have fun here, promise. You'll learn here that every student is unique in their own way. You're here, because you've got this gift. I'm dying to know how you got it. The more you share your secrets, the better you'll get," he continued.
I didn't know what to say or think. "I've got nothing to hide," I said. "I'm a normal person just like everybody else," he continued. Mr. Halloween looked grim and serious, angry even. He pushed his chair aside, stood up. Grabbed the silver bottle of blood from the desk, and tossed it onto my face!
Dripping with blood, I cringe with disgust. Walking toward me, he spun me around in my chair. Gripping my shoulders firmly, he stood me in front of a tall mirror hanging on the wall. I let out a scream, seeing I was invisible. I didn't have a reflection. Turning me around, he handed me a wooden stake.
"Vampire!" Mr. Shine announced. I didn't want to believe it. "You're one of the original undead individuals," he continued. "You don't remember what happened to you, do you?" Mr. Shine asked. I shook my head, confused. "For your first test, you will find a spooky friend to wipe out the human race," the principal explained.
"When did this happen? I don't like what's happened to me!" I said. Mr. Shine laughed more. He pointed the stake at his chest in my hand. "What are you...doing?" I cried. I wasn't what I had in mind.
"Finish me, and you'll be free," Mr. Shine said. "The night will make you feel young and all powerful! You'll need this, too," he continued. Handing me a bottle of what looked like a sun screen, I looked at it: Supernatural Sunscreen. Directions are said to apply on your face an hour before sunrise and you won't explode into dust into direct sunlight.
I looked at the bottle again. Then I laughed, nervous laughter. "You're joking, right?" I asked, opening the tube. Inside, I poured some of it out in my hands. It was slimy green and glowing! I slowly started to put on my bloody stained face. I started to glow and he turned and made me look at my reflection again in the mirror. My reflection was back! I was still bloody, but I could see myself again!
I faced Mr. Shine again. "How? Why? I don't understand," I whined. I put the lotion bottle back on his desk, carefully. I couldn't believe this wasn't normal. I looked at the bottle again, and tossed it inside a wastebasket by Mr. Shine's desk.
The unfriendly principal frowned at me. He walked over to the trash can. And bend down to fetch the bottle of lotion. "Never do that again, Monty!" He yelled. Mr. Shine snapped his fingers. And summoned his beautiful secretary in her early thirties, into the office. She walked over to the blinds in the principal's office. She opened the blinds one by one.
Letting in morning sunlight, I started to smoke and started to catch on fire. I screamed, and ducked behind Mr. Shine's desk. Mrs. Beware and Mr. Shine walked over and laughed and slapped each other a high five. "I think you're going to want to trust us on this sunscreen stuff, kid," Mrs. Beware laughed, handing me the bottle of special sunscreen lotion.
Looking at my smoking school uniform jacket, I quickly smeared some of the lotion over my clothes and face. I instantly glowed and was protected by the magic lotion. Mrs. Beware smiled, showing her fangs, and lent me a hand. I accepted it and stood on my skinny legs.
"You'll report to homeroom, for the first period, in Mr. Purple's physical education in the gym," Mr. Shine explained. I nodded. I looked uncertain of where to find it. So, Mrs. Beware assisted me to the correct location of our school gym.
I walked in the foggy hallways of Abracadabra Middle School. I felt lost, unsure of what to think of this school. The lights dimmed to a deep red. I walked closer. Mr. Shine and Mrs. Beware watched from the office and waved at me. The principal smiled and pointed me in the direction.
It was completely empty. No students or teachers roaming the halls. I was alone. Suddenly, I heard a cry for help coming from down the hall. I saw a couple of teenage boys, shoving a familiar looking girl into a locker. I had to stop them!
They smiled and laughed and high-fived each other. They barely noticed me as they ran off in the opposite direction. I walk over the girl trapped in the locker. "Hello? Can you hear me?" I asked, shouting to be heard. All I heard in response was loud sobbing echoing throughout the hallway. "Calm down, miss. I'll help you out!" I emphasized.
I started to open the locker door, when the innocent fiction halted me. "Don't! You can't help me," she explained, not making any sense. I didn't know what to say. Or how to help her. "Please, we need to get away from this school before it's too late! Or we'll all be like undead monsters," she continued.
"How is this possible?" I asked, nervously. "Is everybody undead here? Why? How?" I stammered, to make sense. Suddenly, I felt a pool of water running under my shoes. I looked down. I saw that it was actually blood running everywhere! It was coming from the bottom of the coffin lockers! "What's that?"
I turned to look at the girl victim in the locker she was trapped in...It swung open! Blood poured all over my face. And the girl popped out in front of me, scaring the life out of me. She was a vampire! Ghostly pale and gray. She had no eyes and they were black pupils of evil. The wicked girl bared her teeth and stuck her sharp fangs into my neck...I screamed!
