I struggled to free myself of the rough vampire girl, who tried taking a bite out of my neck! She pinned my arms down, and I continued screaming for mercy. "Get off him!" somebody shouted from ahead of us down the hall. We turned and looked to see a young hall monitor wearing a purple "Hall Monster" banner over his blue and green school uniform. The small, shaggy haired boy with a serious expression held a stake in his hand. Students gathered in the dimly lit, foggy hallway, where the vampire chick jumped me.
Her eyes haunted me and she hissed and bared her fangs at the Hall Monster. She turned her attention back to me. Then, using my strength, I kicked the girl off me! She growled, and flung herself back inside the bloody locker. Kids gathered around me, and the Hall Monster locked the vampire girl inside of my locker. She screamed and yelled, furiously to get released from her coffin.
The Hall Monster slipped a detention slip inside the girl's locker and slammed it shut and locked it again. Kids pumped up and cheered with victory. The Hall Monster took out his hand, for me to help me stand on my feet. I took it, and got to my feet. I stumbled back, but maintained my balance. Looking shocked and confused at everybody, I confessed, "What is going on here?" I pointed an accusing finger at the vampire girl. She shouted and hollered to be set free. The Hall Monster pounded his fists angrily at the locker. She yelped innocently and continued growling impatiently to be released.
"I'm Jace Applesauce, the Hall Monster," he handed his hand out to take. I looked uneasy, and swiftly shook it firmly. "There's going to be a lot of this going on at this school. Luckily, I know how to stop them from getting worse. You don't want to know what's going on outside here. But it seems monsters think they need to come to a place of learning, where they can attract magical beings to force mortals to separate their differences. And get along with the students who are being trained to gain supernatural abilities to protect their unique souls from becoming dark and ugly," Jace said.
It made sense, but I didn't want to be attracted to monsters. So I asked, "What do I do now, first?" I asked, looking a little spooked at the vampire girl, still eyeing me with red, glowing eyes at me. I flipped her off, she pounded her fists at the locker, making us jump with fright. Looking with surprise, we turned to see the friendly African American janitor in uniform, walking out of the custodian's closet, with a mop in his hand. He was whistling and had earbuds in his ears, while mopping up blood on the floor, next to some lockers. He jumped and ducked his head as vampire bats flew out of the shadowy closet.
Three of them transformed back into three lovely girls next to me. There was a blonde, a redhead, and a purple-colored girl, who surrounded me. They tried to hypnotize me with their glassy, glowing eyes. I couldn't help but admire their beauty and attraction. They started to drag me away, when suddenly…Jace tossed a bottle of holy water at the vampire girls to break him free of their trance. Screaming, and smoking up in ash, they bared fangs at him. And vanished out of sight as vampire bats out of a window that was already open. Even though it was daylight in the early morning, it didn't seem to bother the bats as they flew out to escape.
A few kids laughed nervously, as they continued to cheer with victory. Pumping a fist in the air, Jace guided me to my homeroom. "You've got nothing to worry about, kid. I'm here to watch out for you everyday, as well as everybody else. I know how to stop these low, unpleasant creatures of darkness from ever causing any mischief," Jace explained. "They all want us to be like monsters of their kind. But hey kid, monsters don't have their place in their world. There is still hope for humanity that can still try to feel better than monsters." Jace opened the classroom door. Other students around us carried on to their own rooms.
When Jace poked his head inside the classroom, it was empty. He turned back to me. "You're early. Her name's Mrs. Hey. She always makes newcomers feel welcomed. Tell her you just had a restroom emergency, and she'll excuse your tardiness. She's all about making sure her students get the proper treatment they deserve. She studies monster humans in history. Mrs. Hey is a lot of fun and has plenty of exciting lessons everyday. Get settled in before the other students arrive. Good luck, dude," Jace said, shoving me inside the classroom. Fog swirled around the floors as I entered cautiously. Not a student to be seen, or instructor.
All the desks lined up neatly in row. However, they were covered in spider webs. I could tell from the gloominess of it, I was doomed to learn anything at all about monster humankind. Dim lights hung low from the ceiling. They swung back and forth and the lights kept flicking on and off, sending shadows on the walls. I turned around to the teacher's desk. The black rolling chair was faced behind the desk, turned around in the opposite direction of her students. I didn't think anything of it.
Until Mrs. Hey, whirled around and faced me! Letting out a high pitched witch's cackle, the teacher, Mrs. Hey appeared before me! Noticing with horror, Mrs. Hey was not the beautiful woman instructor I thought she would be. No, in fact, sadly, Mrs. Hey was a horrible monster before my eyes!
She held an attendance roll card and pointed at me. Her glassy-solid black eyes bugged out of her sockets. She had a long crooked nose. It was dripping with green, slimy snot. She didn't bother wiping her gross nose. She had warts all over her face. And her smile was wicked and cruel. "Monty Moonshine?" She pointed at me, her voice was like crackling dry leaves. "You're going to love being my only student I get to teach this year! If you pass in your assignments, you'll be rewarded with the gift of becoming my favorite student. Who built my appetite to feed on tasty Monster Prize like you, to gain me more knowledge and power," Mrs. Hey said, smiling, she had her pointy sharp teeth. She stood up behind her chair, turned out the lights. And I started to scream.
