Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

The housing situation wasn't too bad, most of the homes around here were built in the same style and had the same layout inside. Like most homes built, we had the standard kitchen, lounge, three bedrooms, one bathroom, and a porch with a garage for two cars. Due to these houses being built at more or less the same time as the rest of the town, the rooms were very large and of course, there was maintenance and upgrading that had to be done a little more often if you had not yet replaced the plumbing and wiring throughout the house. My father owns his own garage and is very handy with tools so we never had any problems with these things. In fact, for my 16th birthday, he restored an old Volkswagen Beetle for me. It was a 1970's model, convertible and blue. I thought it was super cute. My mother is a secretary for a transport company that does business around the country. She mostly assisted with the bookkeeping and managed their documents. She would work a typical nine-to-five job, the twins would go to an au pair during the afternoon once they got home from preschool which ended at three. Sarah is currently their au pair and I believe she is 19 years old. She has long black hair and brown eyes, she is also on the heavy side but she wears all of the latest fashions. She didn't actually need a job, you see her boyfriend is 32 and funds all of her luxuries. I assume he made her work two and a half hours a day just to understand the value of money and then would go right ahead and fund whatever her new infatuation would be that week. It has happened multiple times that Sarah would not show and I would have to care for the twins during the hours my mother was still at work. I didn't mind too much, they would occupy each other and I would finish my homework a bit later.

Eudaimoniaville is the most northern town of Kallos, the country we lived in. Kallos isn't a very large country but it is beautiful. There are a lot of rivers, and natural wonders like rock formations, waterfalls, and canyons, and in some places, there are even ruins of previous civilizations. Pleonexia was the only other country at our border and Eudaimoniaville is within driving distance of their most southern city, Auxesis. Auxesis is an extremely large city with new buildings and infrastructure and It just keeps growing. They have large malls, sports centres, and entertainment for days. Auxesis is everything a teenager dreams of, too bad we needed passports just to get in and then had to pay a hefty entrance into the country, and as if that wasn't bad enough the guards wanted a bribe too and if you refused, they would deny you access. We were otherwise surrounded by ocean and only had three islands around us, one was only large enough to accommodate a lighthouse that was kept in great condition as most of our import products were transported in this way. Pleonexia refused to allow us any transport, imports, etc through their country without paying an obscene amount of taxes. It was just cheaper to go around them. Our port was quite safe for ships, we didn't have any shallow reefs or anything like that. The other two islands weren't any bigger but they did have some shallow reefs and wouldn't be able to house many people. We were warned that it was dangerous to travel by boat to these islands. The only way to safely get there was by helicopter as there wasn't enough space for a runway for any plane to be built.
