As Cedric embraced the nothingness of unconsciousness, the situation could not get more dire for his retainer. Ember stared at the army of shadows chasing her, her breathing ragged, while the healer beside her trembled in fear.
"There is no escape. We have nowhere else to go," the healer squeaked, her words trembling on her lips. "I'm so useless. I'm really…"
"Enough with the self-blame, Janet," Ember reprimanded with a frown as she tightened her grip on the healer's forearm. "We can survive this. There has to be a way!"
The healer nodded and calmed down a little, but Ember had to admit that she was uncertain about their fate herself. Her mana was running low, and she had yet to find Cedric. She would rather die than fail in her duties of protecting him.
'But where is he?' Ember thought as she threw another blast of moonlight. The light shone from her hands and dispelled the shadows, but it was significantly weaker than it was in the outside world.
