Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

If that thing was not with Lottie Everhart, then who could it be with?

Gio Wise was sure that the thing was with Lottie. It only made sense for it to be with her.

As Gio Wise was deep in thought, Lottie struggled out of his embrace.

"I don't know what you're searching for but whatever it is, it's not with me."

Lottie pleaded with her eyes as she tried to absolve herself from the crime of having "the thing".

"If you don't believe me, you can search all around Nana's house too… in fact I know you've already searched there. And since you can't find it, it only proves that that thing is neither with me nor my Nana." Lottie continued in one breath. She couldn't risk her life angering him. She dared not and she could not.

He was Gio Wise after all.

The great young general of the Zephyr Kingdom.

And despite having looks that could be talked about for centuries to come, he was not particularly known for his looks.

He was known for his achievements and more so for his cruelty.

If he was not born into a military family, it was for sure that he would have become a terrifying being that worked against the law.

For Gio Wise was nothing but morally grey.

He wasn't "evil", but he did not follow the way the world worked by accepting that the law was right. Instead, he believed that what he thought right was right, and what he didn't think of as right, that could only be wrong.

It was simple.

Gio Wise did not believe in the law but his own judgement.

Lottie was very clear of that.

Such a man could only be one thing to her – terrifying.

"I believe you." He suddenly changed his tone as his deep eyes stared at Lottie.

Lottie admitted that he was one of the most handsome men she had ever seen in her whole 18 years of existence, and will probably continue to be till she turned grey and wrinkly.

He was just up her alley.

But now all she had for him was fear after she met him at the cathedral on her way back home two days ago.

The first time they met, she was smitten beyond words. He sweet talk her and whispered sweet nothings into her ears so much so that she actually brought him to her grandma.

It was precisely because of her that her grandma was now in his hands and she had no way of knowing whether she was alright or not.
