Chapter 10 - Shirava 2

The two walked through the streets of the shanty town, and soon reached the only building that wasn't completely run down, the Mages Guild.

Ingvald: Okay, Gesalt, I do need to warn you, they will test you. And no, my word help here, I have a reputation of non bias to uphold, if I pull strings just for you, and it gets out, I'll have a lot of work to deal with. However, don't worry that much, it shouldn't be an issue for you, the test will likely be a simple task to do with magic, and after that, you'll get to do some paper work.

Gesalt: I see, and how long will the test take?

Ingvald: Hmm, well, that depends. I suppose the average is about an hour, but it could be more or less depending on who is running this office. Now, come, we have to get you in there.

The two enter the office, it was a pretty average room, wooden floor and walls, 2 lamps hang from the ceiling, one at the entrance, and one at the info desk, which was made of pretty high quality wood, behind it sat an old man, bald and with a large white beard, he was doing some paperwork. Ingvald and Gesalt walk to the man, and Ingvald is the first to speak up.

Ingvald: Ehem, excuse me.

The old man looked up from his work, and responded: By the gods, Ingvald Ragnar? What's a Senser doing in this shanty town?

Ingvald responded: I'm helping out a family friend here, he wanted me to take his son under my tutelage, so I came here to get him signed in the Mages Guild, then we are set for the capital, I did use an Illusion spell on his appearance, last I heard, the laws here changed, so I took some extra steps to make sure nothing happens.

The man nods and responds: Indeed they have, kidnaping cases happened here recently, so some temporary laws were put in place to fight back, I suppose it's fair for you to use some magic, so, where's this apprentice of yours?

Ingvald pointed down at Gesalt, the old man looked over, and his expression changed to a surprised one.

The man: My, he's quite young to join the Mages Guild.

Ingvald: I know, but, he has EMR, y'know how it is, he has to get strong now if he wants to do anything in the future.

The man changed expression in a more somber one and nodded.

The man: Ah, Early Magical Release, fair enough, how old is he?

Ingvald: He's 7 years old, he started to do magic 2 years ago.

The man: 7 years... so he only has 14 years left to train until it's too late. Though, you could have probably have done this later no? Say when he's 12 or 13?

Ingvald nodded: Well yes, but some complications arose, I did promise his family that I'll take him under my wing, but since the Reckoning is coming in 3 years, I don't know if I'll even be around when he is 12 or 13, unfortunate timing really.

The man nodded: Indeed, I suppose that's fair, if he wants to get strong, he has to do it now. Alright, now, what's your name, little feller?

Gesalt responded: My name is Gesalt Asardo, I come from the village of Ceresa.

The old man nodded: Ah, Ceresa, quiet little hamlet half a day from here, not a bad place, at least, compared to this town. Alright, so, what's your affinity, Gesalt?

Ingvald cut in and responded for Gesalt before he could.

Ingvald: He's red color, thats fire type, so magma, fire and anything pertaining to fire.

The man looked at Ingvald: I see.

The man turned to Gesalt: Okay, so, I'll need you to read this before I give you the test, you can read, right?

Gesalt nodded: Yes, I can read.

The man handed Gesalt a large script, it contained information on the guild, as well as the ranks and activities.

The Mages Guild Documentation Paper: If you are reading this, it means that you chose to join the guild, well, let's start with the ranks here, there are 10 ranks, each rank has it's own tasks and missions. The ranks are in the following order, from lowest to highest: Fledgling, Apprentice, Senior Apprentice, Full Fledge Mage, Senior Mage, Veteran Mage, Master Mage, Guild Captain, Guild Master and the highest rank, God Mage, though some usually call them Royal Mages, as the God Mages usually only work for the royal family. Ranking up usually has it's own set of requirements, for example, to rank up from Fledgling to Apprentice, you need someone who is at the very least, a Full Fledge Mage, to take you under their wing, they vary from rank to rank, so don't expect them to repeat. As a Fledgling, you'll work the low rank, menial jobs of the Guild, essentially, you'll do the weak jobs no one wants to do for money until you rank up. Joining the Guild has it's own benefits, you will get a large support network of mages who can help you for jobs, or share their knowledge with you, you will also get more legal protection depending on the situation and the job, as sometimes jobs can break the law. The higher the rank, the more benefits, we hope this documentation paper sufficed for your introduction in the Guild, and we hope you succeeded in your first test.

Gesalt finished reading it, and handed the paper back to the old man.

Gesalt: So... what's the test then?

The old man put the paper in his desk, and prepared some papers for Gesalt.

Old man: I'll tell you in just a bit, take a seat and wait up a bit, I need to do something real quick.

Gesalt nodded and went to one of the chairs that lined the walls, and sat down, Ingvald sat next to him.

And so, Gesalt is about to take the test necessary to join the guild, will he succeed, or will he fail? We'll see soon.
