Gesalt stood outside the village graveyard, waiting for his father, it was the first day of his physical training, his father, Maren wasn't necessarily that strong physically, nor did he train much, but in a small remote village, Gesalt took what he could. After a few minutes of waiting, Maren walks out of the graveyard, and meets his son.
Maren: Son, are you ready?
Gesalt was a bit on the edge, but even so, he nodded and responded: Yes, I'm ready.
Maren nodded thoughtfully and said: Very well, you see, I'm no trainer or fighter, so I'll have you help me in the graveyard, today, I'll just tell you your duties, but tomorrow, you will come with me, I already cleared it with the village priests and explained the situation, and they were willing to let you tag along, however, you need to promise me to not disturb the priests from their work, okay?
Gesalt nodded: Understood, no bothering the priests.
Maren: Good, now here's what you'll help me with, first, I'll need you to help me carry shovels and wire brushes.
Gesalt asked, a bit confused: Wire brushes? Why do you need wire brushes?
Maren: I'm not paid just to protect the graveyard and to bury people, I also need to clean the gravestones. The wire brushes are for that. Anyway, aside from helping me carry, I'll also make you clean gravestones when I don't need your help with something, aside from that, I may ask you to help me with other things sometimes.
Gesalt nodded: I see.
The two go home and rest for the day, Gesalt thought to himself *So this is it, for the next year, I need to help Maren with his work at the graveyard, I need to watch my language too, I've started to sound less like a 5 year old, and more like I sounded back in my old life, ugh, but how do 5 year old's even talk like anyway? It doesn't help that there are almost no kids in this village, at least I could try and imitate them or something, but it seems that there is only me, and 3 or 4 other kids in the other corners of this village, hell, I was lucky that Sene allowed me to go to the graveyard gates by myself to meet Maren, no way I can go to those kids until I'm a bit older.*
The next day comes, and Gesalt was ready for the work, he followed Maren to the graveyard, and got shown around, after about 30 minutes, Gesalt felt that he was ready for work, and got to helping, most of the priests there ignored him, or ask him about his father, still, this "training" wasn't really easy either, it was rather hard actually, after all, Gesalt might have the mind of a guy in his 20s, but his body was that of a 5 year old, carrying one shovel was already pretty hard, and he would have to carry 2 or 3 at a time, still, this work would be effective to building some strength.
Days pass by, and Gesalt is slowly getting stronger and stronger, after the 2 week mark, he can now carry 2 shovels without that much pain, so he started to carry more, and he would increase the weight every 2 weeks, adding one more shovel until it was impossible to carry more. Secretly, Gesalt would also practice magic, however, due to the physical training, he would usually be too tired to actually do any of it, so he mostly just read through the Grimoire.
3 months pass by, and it's now winter times, Gesalt can now carry 5 shovels, he could probably carry more, but since his body is small, he just can't hold onto more than 5, hell, holding 5 is already a lot, he's been doing a lot of good work at the graveyard, so much so, that the priests took notice, and started to pay Gesalt for his work, of course, that money would immediately go to Sene for house shopping, but it was good to have some additional income in the house, even if it's pretty small. Aside from the money, Getalt also noticed that he started to grow slightly taller, and his body has become a bit more defined, still, he was soon to be 6, and obviously, it's not a large difference, but he was proud of his work.
After a long day at the graveyard, Maren and Gesalt walk home, and start discussing about the work.
Maren: Ah, can't wait for the pay, they promised me a raise for bringing you in, you do good work, especially for a kid, y'know?
Gesalt: Oh, a raise? How much?
Maren: 25 more gold per pay, it's quite a good raise, I make 250 gold, so 25 gold is a very good raise, I heard the priest gives you 20 gold for your work, that true?
Gesalt, nodding proudly: Yep, I give it all to mommy, I know it's not much, but it's best to have it.
Maren nods and smiles: Good job, I'm sure she appreciates it, besides, more money never hurt us, eh?
Gesalt thought to himself *Heh, I've been working here so long that now my dad treats me more like a coworker and friend rather than son, don't know if that's necessarily good or not, but I don't mind it, though, I still need to be careful with my speech, I've slipped up a few times, but I think I've kept a good cover. Maybe I can push it a bit more, and blame it on the priests if I screw up, I'll just say I got used to talking like this from the priests or something. Ah... 9 more months, and I'll focus on just magic, I should think of what spells I wanna learn before it's too late, I've read of a spell in the Grimoire that caught my attention, it was called "Dragon Shot", I think I'll make that my target, it said it's a very hard spell to use and master, so, I'd say it's a fair goal.*
And so, Gesalt training continued, now he had a goal in mind for what he wanted to do after he finished the physical training, and that would be to learn and master one of the hardest spells in his Grimoire, the Dragon Shot. For the next 9 months, Gesalt works diligently to make his body strong enough to start practicing real magic.
