The year pressed on, with Gesalt becoming stronger and stronger physically, his birthday was ordinary, nothing really happened, and he only used it as a break day from training and practicing, today was the last day of his training, and he had finished it, finally, he could study magic.
It was early morning, and Gesalt already was up and awake, starting to practice magic, and without fail, his first spell to try out was Water Shot, it worked well, and he managed to shoot a bit of water at a potted plant. He kept using magic that day, until Sene walked up to him.
Sene: Already at it this early? You haven't even eaten anything yet.
Gesalt turns back and looks at Sene: Yeah, I want to get as good as possible at magic before it's too late.
Sene sighs and responds: I know, I know, it's just, maybe take some time to rest, you spent an entire year working at the graveyard, and it's just better if you rested out for a while. Y'know? Get those muscles healed.
Gesalt responds: I'm fine, I got used to the muscle aches, and now I don't feel them.
Sene gives Gesalt a disapproving look, but relents: Fine, just... don't push yourself too hard, okay? Look, remember Ingvald? The man who figured out your magic issue?
Gesalt turns to Sene with a confused expression: Mr Ragnar? What about him?
Sene: I've spoken with him about you... and he agreed to help you with your magic, I know it's hard, but, he'll teach you more about magic than I or anyone in this village ever could, you'll be leaving with him when you become 12, so, in 6 years, you'll be under his apprenticeship.
Gesalt nods and looks at her, trying to hide his dejection, as he didn't really want to go out with a man he doesn't know much about: I see... well, if he agreed to it, and so did you and daddy, I guess there's not much I can say about it.
Sene goes and hugs Gesalt: I know, it will be hard, I know, but, it's the best next step for you, in 6 years you'll start your own life, and while it will be hard, just know, we'll always be here for you sweetie, now, how about you take a break from magic for today, and rest, you have 6 years until you leave, so don't push yourself too hard.
*Her concerns are pretty normal, a year here isn't the same as a year in my original world, here a year is only 9 months long, meaning that about a year and two months are lost if we are to calculate it with our normal years, that means that we have about 4 years and 10 months until I need to leave, another thing that should be mentioned is that humans here grow faster than the humans in my world, so much so that right now, I'm comparable to a 10 year old from my world, rather than a 6 year old, it's that fast. By the time I'm 12 here, I would be comparable to a 15 or 16 year old with ease.* Gesalt thought to himself.
The rest of the day was spent resting as per Sene's instructions, however, Gesalt was still pretty much on edge, after all, he had only 16 more years until his magic would stop developing, that being 16 Senia years, not 16 Earth years. That means that 16 Senia years are 4 years shorter than 16 Earth years, and Gesalt knew that, he knew that in realty, he has actually 12 years to get stronger, and he loathed it, but, he pushed on.
A few days after this talk, Gesalt decided it was time to learn a new spell, he got the hang of the Water Shot, and he didn't need much practice to do it, it was time for him to learn a new spell, so he looked through the Grimoire for something appropriate for him, thats where he saw a different spell, Summon Weapon, the spell worked like this "You can mark a weapon with a specific spell rune, and then using Summon Weapon, you can remotely teleport the weapon directly in your hands, however, the moment you let go of the weapon, it will teleport right back where it came from. You can summon as many weapons as you can hold, and to summon the weapon you need to perform the spell while thinking of the rune you put on that weapon. Anything can be a rune as long as you imbue magic in it and you give it a name."
*Hmm, interesting, so if I grab say... a kitchen knife, and I draw a rune with it, then I put magic in the rune, I could summon that knife... I should practice this, what else does this page say?*
The page went on. "If the rune is removed from the weapon, it cannot be summoned until the rune is reapplied. A summoned weapon does not loose its condition in battle, and it will not grow dull or chipped, however, if you are facing an opponent with higher magical power, they can destroy the sword if they attack the core (rune) with remote magic, therefore, make sure to hide the rune well."
*So, I got to hide the rune when I do the spell, hmm, I guess I'll make a rune in the handle of the weapon so its safe.*
"Lastly, when using a summoned weapon, your magical recharge is halted, and will not recharge until you desummon the weapon."
*Hmm, that's a big drawback, I guess if I use this spell, I need to have some great weapons on summon. Alright, I'll give this one a try.*
Gesalt grabbed a kitchen knife from the kitchen, and drew a smiley face on the handle. He then focused on the rune while holding the knife to imbue magic into it, and yes, he had learned how to imbue magic a while ago, it was the first time he did it for a reason though. As he imbued magic into the smiley face, it started to glow a bright blue, Gesalt then said "Face Rune", thus naming the smiley face, and making it viable for Weapon Summoning. He put the knife in the kitchen, and called over his mother.
Gesalt: Mom! Come quick for something, I need you to do something.
Sene, who right now was in the garden, taking care of some plants, comes inside and looks at Gesalt.
Sene: Something happened, sweetie?
Gesalt: I'm trying a new spell, and I need you to look at this knife, okay?
Sene was a bit confused by the request, but nodded anyway: Okay, so I just look at the knife? Sure.
Gesalt ran to his room, and tried to do his new spell, he concentrated on the rune, and on the spell, he held his palm open and... a white glow emanated from his palm, the knife suddenly appeared in his hands, and Sene was heard loudly saying "What?" from the kitchen. Gesalt, with a dumb smirk on his face, let go of the weapon, and it de-summoned back to the kitchen, where Sene was left even more confused.
Gesalt ran back to the kitchen, and told Sene: That was Weapon Summoning, I just found it in the Grimoire, and I decided to try it out, what do you think?
Sene was confused, impressed but also worried: I-I see... phew, here I thought the knife was cursed or something, look, maybe... maybe don't summon my cutlery, okay? I was seriously scared for a second.
Gesalt nods and responds: Understood, it was just a test to see if the spell works, and it does.
He grabs the kitchen knife, and wipes away the smiley face, ending the rune and the connection to the weapon summon.
After Gesalt explained to Sene how the spell worked, Sene nods, and just returns back to her gardening, seems she isn't really concerned with how the spell worked, rather than with just Gesalt not summoning her kitchen utensils.
And so, Gesalt's arsenal of spells has finally expanded, now he can summon weapons and shoot water, what else will he learn? We'll find out soon enough.
