Chapter 28 - Chapter 28. Eye

There was no way Marx was going to forget this sight. Just looking at these adult sandworms made his knees shake. He knew that even the the laser kicks would not work on them.

One of the samdworms was falling and he was standing right in the direction it was falling in. He paused to have a good look at the sandworms but he regretted.

It was like he was subjected to cold. He clenched his teeth but they kept rattling. His eyes widened and the hair on the back of his head had stood up. As though that was not enough, he could still feel the cold sweat trickling down him.

He got a clear view of the sandworms' head. Ten meters wide. It appeared like they could chew anything. The interconnected steel like teeth made them appear appear like they were swords and not teeth at all.

But something that shook him to the core was when he saw the one falling at him do something impossible. The teeth which were usually in constant movement started retracting to the sides.

What appeared like a dark hole in the middle almost half a meter wide. It couldn't be that it knew that he was in its way and it was then planning on swallowing him right? He looked into the hole but all he saw was infinite darkness.

But it was like he was destined to experience a series of shocking events during this mission. What he saw made him stumble. The feeling of fear immobilizing him leaving him impaired.

It was orange reddish in colour. It fit the hole perfectly and on the center of it was black . Marx did not require the system's help to know that that was its eye. It had only one eye but the eye itself was half a meter wide.

If that was not the scariest thing in the world, what was? He was sure no one knew about the fact that adult sandworms had an eye. This was his first discovery and he knew the system had recorded it all.

Marx slapped his cheeks to remove himself from his stupor. The feeling of fear he had been feeling was being enveloped by another emotion. He remembered his grandfather's words when he once told him that he was scared.

"It's okay to be scared but failure to do anything because you are scared is..."

He sighed and scratched his chin. At such a critical moment, he had forgotten the quote! He laughed at himself accepting the fact that no advice could stick in his head. The quote was supposed to motivate him from his fear but his highly intelligent brain could not remeber it.

Maybe that was what he needed at the moment. The moment he laughed, he had felt his fear had dissipated and another feeling taking over him. Though, he could not place it. The feeling of fear, he etched it into hid bones.

He was going to remember it so that he could never again get immobilized by his fear. He also could tell that there was probably nothing in the future that was going to make him that fearful.

He willed himself to get stronger. If he was stronger, there was no way he could have gotten immobilised by fear. He knew that fear was just one of the reasons for his immobilization.

There was something he discovered about the eye. Something that shook him again. Hypnosis. The sandworm had hypnotized him. However he had managed to get out of its hypnosis was a miracle. Maybe he would be nothing but minced meat in the sandworm's belly currently.

He also realized that other than getting stronger, he needed to have a stronger mind. When the system was back he was going to find out ways to make his mind stronger. But he did not have much time to dwell on the thoughts because he had to get away from the path of the falling sandworm.

With his fear dissipated, he just stepped away three meter from the sandworm's reach. From his vantage point he yawned as he stared at the sandworm. He couldn't help but feel hungry. He saw a white flash in the sandworm's eye. Could it be that that action had managed to anger it?

He laughed as he stared at it struggling to move towards his direction. He held his hands on his waist as he waited for the sandworm to fall past him. He had decided that due to the fact that he could not fight the adults, he was going to stick to teenagers.

He could feel the sandworm straining to look at him. He laughed once again and his calm had returned. But he was naive and ignorantly arrogant. It was one thing to be arrogant but being ignorant changed everything.

He failed to consider every possible countermeasures the sandworms could use. But he could only blame himself for over reliance on the system. When the sandworm was falling past him, he was three meters away from it.

He was around 20 meters above the ground. It happened in an instant but he saw everything. Millions of pores appeared on its body. They contracted inwards and suddenly they all opened outwards releasing a green substance.

It was like a gas but yet it had some liquid properties. Marx was not sure about the possible counter measure but he knew he had to run as his brain was screaming at him to.

He tried to run but it was slow as the green substance completely covered him. It then disappeared after a few seconds and Marx stared at the falling sandworms. He did not know what it had done.

He had held his breath and closed his eyes but he was not sure whether that was enough. He was not sure whether it would have any impact on his body. He needed to complete the mission fast. If the poison was to weaken him, then he was going to die if he did not leave the mission ground.

He remembered the system saying that it was not going to help him. It was already charitable that it had given him the boosts. The only way for him to receive the system's help was by completing the mission fast

He watched as the sandworms finally reached the ground. The sandworms' falling momentum caused what appeared like a sand explosion. A cloud of sand was blown up and Marx had to climb higher.

It took a little longer before the sandworms could completely get back into the sand. He had a serious look. His only prayer being that the sandworm which had seen him could not come back for him or else he was doomed.

He waited a few more seconds just to be sure that the sandworm was not going to come for him. He then landed on the ground and then leapt back to the air and an infant sandworm shot after after him.

Marx could only sneer at it. He did not even have the slightest of panic and even before it could reach its limit, it was already dead. He had used laser kicks. He had discovered a new way of using laser kicks.

It was like sending curved laser blades at the sandworm. He had to swipe his foot from top to the bottom. It appeared easy but it was not. It required him to use great force such that the Laser attack would detach from his leg and slice at the sandworm.

The laser had done its job perfectly and had sliced the sandworm few millimeters away from its Crystal. He quickly rushed at it and pulled th crystal from its body. He waited around 100 meters for the teenage sandworms.

He had collected nine crystal but the last sandworm he had fought was teenage. He now waited as the adults devoured the teenager. He should have been calm but he was not. What he saw next shook him but he quickly eliminated any thoughts of fear.

Ten eyes all stared at him! Also the teenager sandworm had not been devoured! Instead, what appeared like angry gazes fell on Marx. Marx once again felt that he must have wronged some creatures during his past life if he had a past life though.

First it was the monkeys and now it was the sandworms. He was sure that these adults were intelligent beasts and they knew that it was like a taboo to eat one of their kind. They also knew that he was nutritious than their fellow clansmen.

Marx thought that they were going to shoot at him but they only sticked their heads out. Again, jerry opened the backpack zipper, sticked his head out and the closed it once again. It was safe in there.

Marx had a complicated gaze. There was a sandworm the appeared familiar. Its gaze kept flashing with a white light. Like it recognized him. But Marx also recognized it. It was the same sandworm that drove him into a state of complete fear.

But he felt his soul leave his body when he realized that he was falling and he could not activate Halo Steps...
