Chapter 31 - Chapter 31. Reckless

The sandworm had no way of blocking the attack. It could not even close the eye. It had too many openings but none of them could be termed a weakness if it was not currently undergoing indigestion and disintegration of its inniards.

The only thing keeping it together was its stamina but it was decreasing at a lightning speed. The fist landed cleanly on the eye but Marx once again cursed jumping back.

Just how tough could it be? It felt like he had hit a wall without system boost at full strength. He shook his hand several times before he stopped to look at the sandworm but the sight made him pleased.

Red capillaries appeared on the eyes and a liquid appeared clear as water. Tears probably. He was supposed to feel a shred of pity but he could not. Were they not both fighting for their lives?

Marx somehow felt its pain. Imagine a hit in the eye where you could not close it or even try to rub it... The worst part was that this was not just a mere hit but a punch amplified and accompanied by three laser bullets.

If it could see, it was probably seeing stars if not white. This was the case if its eye was still functional... Which he was sure was not... Knowing the pain it was in, it was probably vulnerable to any attack.

Now that he thought of it, he would like to know how it released the screeching sounds of pain. But without the system, he was in the dark... Standing five meter away, he prepared the next attack.

Something was telling him that with his decrease in stats, he could only have one Laser Kick. And he was right. With both their stats dropping, it would reach a point where he would fail to generate enough energy to release a laser kick.

Knowing this, he springed himself round and round in the air as he perfectly timed the kick. The kick itself was risky for it opened him up to the grating teeth. But it was whether to risk finishing the battle quick or risk a prolonged battle that put him in more danger...

With his life as stake the kick landed on the pupil and a red laser light cut through the eye with utmost ease. Inside Marx's leg one could see these changes as he kicked the sandworm.

From his triceps over thousands of tiny blue lightning strands were generated at the time of impact. These tiny strands converged together such that by the time they passed through the calf, they appeared to form one large jolt of blue lightning.

This jolt was in constant vibration making it appear like it was moving in a zig zag manner. It seemed more ominous than those of the hands and hundreds of times more powerful.

This jolt moved to his foot at the joint at the ankle, something Marx had never noticed came into view. It was more like an amplification chamber if one could name it.

When the jolt entered this chamber, it seemed to undergo rigorous bombardment inside threatening to break the chamber. But it did no damage at all.

After the chamber was a nozzle. The odd part about this nozzle was that it was wide in the inside but it narrowed outwards and reached the size of few millimeters.

The lightning from the chamber somehow passed through what appeared like a double pair of integrated circuits (IC). These ICs were just at the mouth of the narrow part of the nozzle.

When it passed through the ICs, it came out in the form of red laser that could piece through anything. If Marx knew about these activities that took place inside his body just to generated these attacks he was proud of, he would probably start using them less.

He would start thinking of the creater of the system and how he had managed to make sure that these jolts did not harm him. The most dangerous part was at the amplification chamber.

Just what would happen if the lightning in the chamber suddenly exploded it? He would certainly loose his leg. That was not even to mention the fact that he was not the first person using the system.

He was User 999. What if the amplification chamber had undergone wear and tear after all those times it had been used? That was not to mention that red lasers were not the most powerful. It was just that it was the most powerful he could create.

The red laser then left the nozzle and pierced through the pupil and then to the inniards. It was impacted by nothing as it left a hole in whatever organ or tissue it came across.

But its stopped on the other side when it hit its rear. There was no way it could cut through the steel like skin. If Marx saw where the laser had passed through, he woul stop being reckless.

The laser had slid past the Crystal such that there was no distance between them. This could only mean that he would have fought a lost battle.

Marx could only pray that the attack would kill it soon enough so that he could not get caught in between the grating teeth. He was close to two meters tall and the eyes was around half a meter inside the head.

This was to mean that he would certainly fall on the teeth. Even if he used Viscous Palms to not fall off, either his feet or ribs could fall victim. Also, without Halo Steps, he had no way of rebounding himself backwards away from the teeth.

Even if it died, there was no telling how long it would take for the teeth to stop moving. With his speed decreasing and the pain from the blisters assaulting him, he could only hope that he would gamble successfully.

He activated Viscous Palms and like he had given up on living, he used both hands to hold onto two teeth. The bright side being that these teeth were almost the same size as his palms.

But on the dark side, they were moving. He might have delayed his death by a few seconds but the rapid movement of the teeth shook him to the point he could feel his joints detaching themselves.

He had to let go... He could swing himself forward but the teeth would most definitely tear his belly open... The teeth were interconnected such that they appeared like stairs.

With the upper teeth being slightly higher than the teeth right below them. This made the appear like they were in the form of concentric circles. Marx gambled once again.

The teeth he had been holding on to were around the fourth upper row. He let go and held on to the teeth of the fifth row but he had miscalculated his height but he was still lucky. Though reckless was the correct term.

His shoes were not as lucky though. The teeth on the bottom row shredded the sole of his shoes such that only the laces were stopping them from coming out.

He could feel the wind from the teeth threatening to start shredding his feet. He dangled and did not let go. This time he was confident that if he swung himself forward, his belly would be saved!

Without hesitation, he swung himself forward and lucky for him, he managed to step on the eye and he swung himself backwards and let go of the teeth.

He fell face first but once again he regretted his recklessness. The sand did a good job in bursting the blisters. Even as he stood up, he realized that even his feet were blistered and that stepping on the sand was as painful as hell.

He could only trend forward slowly or else he would inflict himself more pain. He paused for a few seconds before the teeth finally stopped. He then stood infront of the dead sandworm staring at its eye. It appeared alive though.

Now he was caught in a dead end. So what if he killed the sandworm? How could he get the crystal? The mission was about gaining crystals and not killing sandworm.

If he collected all ten crystals and killed no sandworm, the mission would still be a success. This just proved how unfair the mission was for him... Where was he going to make the hole to beging with?

He knew he had to act fast because the other sandworms would probably come at him after realizing he had killed one of their kind. He stumbled and fell on his knee. He once again cursed at his recklessness.

Was it that he was dumb to allow himself to fall on his knees? Did he not know about the effect the sand had on his blisters? He caughed and covered with his hand. The sight left him horrified as he stared at his red dyed palm.

Infact, the blood appeared blackish which was sign of poisoning. Without anymore hesitation, he stood up despite the aching of his feet as the sand assaulted the blisters.

He stepped forward and held on to the fifth row of teeth at the bottom. He then raised his legs and stepped on to the teeth of the first row. He again recklessely stepped on the teeth and got a fair shair of pain.

The tooth he had stepped on pierced into his foot and he quickly raised his foot as blood suddenly seeped from the wound. Maybe the purpose of this mission was to teach him of his recklessness.

He had no choice but to crawl forward despite the pain assaulting him when his body pressed on to the teeth. He surely was not going to forget about this pain. Just because he was weak and reckless, he was experiencing more pain than he had when he was receiving the system.

He finally reached the eye and fell on his knees so that he was fitting perfectly inside the half a meter wide hole. But it was not comfortable at all! He was kneeling on the teeth the pain was as piercing that he felt like he would just give up.

Then he punched...
